Chapter-43|Pre-Wedding Shenanigans(1)
I don't think I've ever mentioned how much I love babies. Not kids or toddlers, just babies. You know, the one you can hold in your arms and watch them coo at you, but just when they cry, you can give them right back to their parents?
Yup, those are the ones.
But I don't think I would mind holding this one even if she cries.
Josephine Rose Knight.
Liam and Hanna's little daughter.
As I hold her in my arms, I'm pretty sure she's going to be a heartbreaker with her dark brown eyes and black hair. Her features practically scream Knight genes, considering Hanna is a redhead with green eyes.
"I hope you know you're not getting her back." I joke, rocking Josephine slightly as she eyes me curiously.
"I appreciate all the break I can get." Hanna says, laughing from her position on the couch where she's currently lounging.
All of us came down to North Carolina this morning because the day after tomorrow was Liam's and Hanna's wedding. While we initially planned to come down tomorrow, Liam desperately wanted Ethan to be a part of his bachelor party and Hanna insisted that Dani and I join Riley for her bachelorette.
"Well, I told you, honey. I'm ready to babysit whenever you want some rest." Elizabeth says, handing Hanna a plate filled with fruits.
I expected everyone here to treat me with hostility because I hurt their son, but none of that happened. In fact, they pushed Ethan to the side as everyone hugged me when we arrived. While Hanna gloated about how she knew all along that we would end up together, Elizabeth was simply happy that we did.
"Thank you so much, Eliza." Hanna smiles gratefully at her to-be mother-in-law.
"So, what's the plan for the fun night?" Riley asks, finally looking up from her phone. Her words cause Dani to look over from her position on the couch opposite Hanna, where she's intently listening to Olivia tell her about the pressure of being a senior in high school.
"Well, the plan is to have fun." Hanna says smirking at us. Chuckling at her words, Elizabeth shakes her head before leaving us alone.
"I thought that was a given." Dani smirks just as Olivia gets up and leaves the room when her phone rings.
"You thought right." Hanna nods at Dani before sitting up straighter. "I don't know the details because my friends have planned all this, but once the guys leave, my friends will come over and we'll go from there on." She tells us, making us nod.
"Ohhh... Are you gonna have strippers?" Dani asks curiously, looking at Hanna.
"I just had his daughter, Dani." Hanna says, laughing loudly. "Both of us decided no strippers and anyway, I wouldn't go for one."
"I mean... I wouldn't either, but I just thought maybe you'd want to try it, considering everything that happened." Dani says, referring to her accident. "Maybe add a little bit of... spice." She winks at us, making me laugh. The loud sound of my laugh makes baby Knight look up at me once again with curiosity in her eyes.
"Ah. I get it but trust me, I've had enough spice to last me a lifetime." She sighs. "I just want a simple... beautiful wedding." She smiles softly as if imagining her wedding.
"Is that too much to ask for?" Hanna groans, letting her head fall back.
"Of course not." I try to reassure her. "We're gonna make sure that your wedding day is perfect, and it goes on without a hitch."
"Thank you so much." Hanna smiles at us gratefully when Dani and Riley nod their heads in agreement with me.
"So, about tonight..." And soon Riley got us all immersed in a conversation about the potential fun activities for the night that was about to come.
I hope it's a blast because Hanna deserves it; honestly, it's also been a while since I've partied.
I mean, it was just last month that Ethan's birthday party happened, but that night; I was really focused on my surprise and if I really wanted to pull it off; I had to say sober. Not stone-cold sober but sober enough to know every single thing that comes out of my mouth and acknowledge everything that enters my mouth.
And enter, it did.
God, just thinking about that night is making me wish I took Ethan up on his offer of joining the mile-high club.
Ethan and all the other guys have gone out to lunch with Liam's groomsmen. He called me like an hour back to tell me they'll be heading for a game of golf before coming back to get ready and leave for the bachelor party.
Even though we don't know what their respective friends have planned for Hanna and Liam, all of us are sure that it's nothing... extravagant, because neither of them wanted anything of sorts. Both of them made it pretty clear early on that they were simply looking for a night to relax before the big day.
Before we know it, the night arrived, and it was time for us to head out, but guess what? I'm running late.
"Ethan!" I call over to my boyfriend, who's currently taking forever to style his hair. "Have you seen my other earring?"
He peeks from the bathroom and finds me running across the room, like a mad woman.
"What does it look like?" He asks, chuckling slightly at my state.
Instead of replying, I simply hold up my other earring while I look for its partner among all the makeup scattered on the vanity.
"Something's sparkling on the bed, babe." He tells me, nodding his head over to the unmade bed.
My head snaps towards the bed and I worry about the muscles of my neck for a second before something sparkling catches my eye among the comforter. Once Ethan returned from golf, we took a nap before getting ready, and hence; the bed was as rumpled as it gets.
Also why I'm running late.
I walk over to the bed with a huff and pick up the teardrop earring. It makes sense why it got lost in the white spreads.
"I'm so fucking late." I almost cry. "They're going to fucking kill me."
As I stand before the mirror, putting my earring in its designated place for the night, I feel muscular arms wrap around my waist.
"I'm pretty sure that even Hanna isn't ready yet." He tells me before placing small kisses along the slope of my bare neck.
"I really fucking hope so." I grumble as I wear my rings.
"I don't think I have told you how fucking hot you look in this black dress." I hear his whisper in my ear and although it causes goosebumps on my skin, I simply reply with a hmm.
Hanna was wearing white, and all the girls wore black to compliment her. My dress was a whole new definition of a little black dress. It was sleeveless and pretty simple, but the feathers on the neckline added all the oomph factor I wanted.
Turning around in his arms, I fixed the collar of his black shirt before placing a small kiss on his lips. "Well, you don't look too bad yourself."
"I can't believe that I'm not gonna see you all night." He says, pushing my straightened hair behind my ear.
"I don't think either of us will be sober enough to stay awake for the other one if we come back home first." I say, chuckling.
"Talk about yourself, Reed." He flicks my nose. "You're the one who drinks to kill her liver."
"I do not." I defend, gasping at his word. Okay, so, I might party a little harder than Ethan, but hey, it's not my problem if he wants to take care of drunk me.
Although, I'm very grateful for it because if he doesn't decide to stay sober, then I'll probably end most nights puking my guts out at the side of a road with an equally drunk Riley holding my hair back.
"We'll find out tonight." He laughs, knowing I'm going to get drunk, considering all the games Hanna's friends have chosen, and the location is a bar, so what else can you expect?
My eyes flick over to the digital clock placed on Ethan's nightstand, and my eyes widen.
"Okay, Knight. Let go of me." I say, turning back in his arms to continue getting ready. "I don't want to get killed by the bride-to-be because I was busy making googly eyes at her brother-in-law."
"Your eyes are so much prettier than googly eyes, babe." He laughs and places a small kiss behind my ear as I spritz myself with perfume.
"Where are my heels?" I ask myself as I look around for them. I swear to god, everything just disappears when you're in a hurry.
Ethan steps back from me and spots them beside the bed. Walking over, he picks them up as I unplug my phone from the charger. Surprisingly, he kneels down in front of me, making my eyebrows quirk.
"Woah there buddy, too early for the diamond. Don't you think?" I joke, with a stupid smile on my face.
"Shut up, Reed." He chuckles and grabs my ankle lightly before placing my feet in the heels and then hoisting it on his bent knee to fasten the buckle.
I know. I know it's the bare minimum, but damn, if the bare minimum doesn't melt my heart. I watch him the entire time with a slight smile on my face as he focuses on helping me and not letting me fall.
"There." he says, placing my foot back on the floor.
I wrap my arms around his neck and place a small kiss on his lips as he gets up and, just as I pull back, somebody knocks on the door.
"Yeah?" Ethan calls out, and I unwrap my arms from around his neck.
The door opens and Dani pokes her head in and a smirk forms on her lips as she takes in our closeness. "I hope you're not planning on having sex because we're running very late, Iris."
"Don't project, Dani." I smirk before moving away from Ethan and grabbing my purse. She rolls her eyes at me before she replies, "I'm not projecting. I already did it." She smirks, making me and Ethan laugh.
"In my parent's house? Seriously?" Ethan asks as an afterthought as he picks up his watch from the vanity.
"Take it up with your friend, Ethan." Dani tells him with a shrug before looking at me. "Come soon." With that, she leaves but leaves the door open as if to remind me I have to leave.
"Let's go." I say, checking all my belongings one last time. The guys will leave an hour later, hence why Ethan is so chilled, but they got ready so that we could take some pictures downstairs.
With that, both of us stepped down to see almost everyone there, except Grayson and Riley.
"You're not even fashionably late." Hanna comments, looking at the two of us, but she doesn't really seem angry at our late arrival, just amused.
"I know. I'm so sorry." I apologize, walking over to her and giving her a hug.
She laughs it off. "Eh, don't sweat it. My sister-in-law is missing. What can I even say?"
"She's not late. She just takes some time to look amazing." Riley's voice flows as she walks down the stairs in a black-colored two-piece.
"And amazing she looks." Hanna agrees, tipping the glass of her champagne towards her.
We haven't even left the house, and the party has already begun. The leaving room is bustling with people as everyone mingles. There are nine of Hanna's girlfriends, some from her college and some from her work, and there are around fifteen of Liam's guys.
"Okay, I'm late, but please, don't punish me." Gray says, coming down, almost running. All of us laugh at his words as he hugs Hanna and places a kiss on her cheek.
"You look hot, mama." He winks at her, making her gasp as she places her hand on her chest from the effect.
"You hear that Liam?" She turns around to tease her fiance, who is raising eyebrows at Gray as if to say 'you really had to do this to me'.
"I already told you, honey. You look fabulous." He comes over and places a kiss on her cheek.
"Wouldn't hurt to repeat it every five seconds, would it, Liam?" One of Hanna's friends teases.
Hanna looked hot. She was wearing a white miniskirt with a white pearl bralette, but all of that was hidden behind the oversized white blazer she was donning. Still, you could catch a glimpse of the pearls and I think that took the whole look up a few notches.
"Come on, let's take the pictures." Hanna's best friend, Abby, as I know her, announces. "We have places to be at, ladies."
"And drinks to drink." Riley cheers.
