Chapter Twenty Eight
Chapter Twenty Eight
My voice gets even powerful as the days goes on and Lily's vision aren't as short and sudden anymore. They are longer and when she focus on something she wants to see, it will come to her. Abe tells us it has something to do with our birthday being next month.
He doesn't go into full details but we get it. Our 18th birthday is also the day our worse enemy will strike. He's being waiting for this for years but it won't happen. Abe won't allow it to happen. I don't know what he has planned but he seem confident that it will work out. And I won't doubt him. I have faith in him.
It's the beginning of November and it begins to snow lightly in the middle of nowhere Montana. I hold onto the heavy drape with my fingers wrap around it. I watch the snow fall from my dorm room French doors. The snow begins to cover the balcony and in the distance, I can make out two figures standing by the gate that surrounds the school.
I don't know how but I know one of them is looking up at me right now. I can feel their eyes glancing at my door. The feeling feels familiar but I refuse to believe or think that it's Hayes for a second.
I drop my arm and the dark drape falls into its original place, blocking the moonlight. I crawl back into my bed and stare at my ceiling for what seems like minutes but actually hours. I don't know why I can't fall asleep. Every time I close my eyes, I can't find an ounce of sleep.
Not soon enough, my thoughts cuts off and sleep finds me as if it knows I wanted to fall asleep.
My eyes close as I hear a low voice whisper "Sleep"
***
I wake to my alarm blaring. I immediately turn it off and lay in my bed for a couple of minutes before getting up. I head to my bathroom to get ready. I'm putting my hair up when there's a knock on my door.
I glance at my clock. It's 7:30. Fifteen minutes before the usual time Hayes comes and get me. I open the door and I'm greeted by a grinning Sophie.
I raise an eyebrow. "What are you doing?" I ask. "And why are you smiling so big?"
"No reason." She says, shrugging. "I'm just really happy."
"Okay..."I trail off. "So what are you doing here?"
"Follow me." She grabs my arm and drags me out of my room.
I plant my feet into the wooden floor. "I can't leave. Your brother would go mad if he shows up here and I'm not here."
"Don't worry about it. He knows. He's gonna meet us in cafeteria."
I raise an eyebrow. "What are you up to?"
She grins. "Nothing."
I roll my eyes not believing her. I shut my door before following her. I grip my coat tighter as we step outside in the cold air.
The snow is still falling and it lands in my hair. I really should have wore a beanie. We start to walk to school and not long enough, Sophie ducks out of no where and before I can see why she ducked, I get hit by a flying snowball.
I glance at my side before looking up. I see Lily, Reid and Kyle walking towards me, laughing. I narrow my eyes, shooting daggers at Sophie. She set me up.
"You really shouldn't have done that." I warn them before picking up a handful of untouched snow. I don't bother to make it into a ball before I haul it towards them. I don't care who it hit as long as I hit someone I'm good.
I hit Lily and I smile satisfied.
"Why'd you hit me?" Lily asks. "It was your boyfriend's idea."
"Yeah but you were a part of it." I respond back.
Before any one knows it, we are having a big snowball fight. They aren't any teams. It's every man for themselves.
Reid tackles Kyle onto the ground and they begin to play wrestle. Sophie hits me in my back and Lily hits me in my stomach.
"No fair!" I say. "You can't gang up on me."
"There's no rules." Sophie says.
"Okay. Then I guess it'll be okay if I do this."
I scoop up a lot of snow and begin to march over to her. Sophie gets scare and starts to run but she trips and fall. I smirk as I get on top of her.
Right as I'm lifting my arms up, a voice stops me. I turn my head to see no one else but the one and only Hayes Cipriano himself and Guardian James.
"What are you doing?" He asks, crossing his arms.
"Having fun." Lily tells him in a duh voice.
"Well stop having fun." He orders us. "Reid we have a meeting to attend and the princesses are wanted in Selena's office."
Reid nods his head as he gets off the ground. Kyle follows, shaking the snow out of his brown hair.
I raise up from Sophie's body and drop the ton of snow before helping her up.
"James is going to watch you two until Reid and I get back." Hayes informs us.
I frown. "James can't be in two places." I point out.
"You're most likely going to miss half of your first period, talking to Selena." Hayes says. "The meeting is only going to be forty minutes. Reid and I will be back before your class ends."
"What's the meeting about?" Sophie asks as we walk to the school.
Hayes shrugs. "I don't know."
Sophie starts a conversation with her brother and Lily is talking to Reid.
"Are you mad at me?" Kyle asks, walking closer to me.
"No. I should be but I'm not."
Kyle grins. "Good. I don't think your protector would be too happy with me if I made you mad and that would suck cause he's starting to like me now."
I look at him."What makes you say that?"
Kyle shrugs. "I don't know. Ever since the Halloween Bash, Hayes started to ease up on me."
I try not the think about the bash but I'm failing. That night pops into my head and plays over again.
I give Kyle a small smile. "He probably realize you're not a threat to me."
Kyle slings his arm over my shoulder, bringing me closer to his body. "I told him at the very beginning, I wouldn't hurt you."
I lean against him. "Maybe he knows that now."
We reach the school and Lily and I head to Mrs. Kovok's office with James. Mrs. Kovok motions us to take a seat and we do.
"I've been meaning to talk to you two days ago but I haven't had time to speak with you." Mrs. Kovok tells us. "I know you two realize your power is reaching its potential am I correct?"
We nod our heads. "Abe told us it's because of our birthday being next month." Lily fills her in.
Mrs. Kovok nods. "He's right." She agrees. "But more importantly, your scent is getting stronger as well. Finding your location will be easier now as the days goes on."
I frown. "So by being here we're putting the rest of the Arsyian students in danger."
"Not necessarily." Mrs. Kovok holds up a finger. "Yes, the Morches can find you but the school is surrounding by the gate of life." She reminds us.
"But the gate won't stop Ramadi from coming." Lily adds.
Mrs. Kovok doesn't reply back immediately but she does eventually answers.
"Ramadi is powerful but even he isn't strong enough to get pass the gate."
I exchange glances with Lily. We're thinking the same thing. Ramadi isn't dead. The gate won't effect him. He can easily get through them.
"What makes you so sure of that?" I ask.
"You're just going to have to trust me."
"You know something we don't, do you?" Lily accuses.
"No." Mrs. Kovok says. "I don't. I'm asking you to trust me and know Ramadi will not be getting through those gates as long as I'm still breathing."
"We trust you." I say. "But what happens if Ramadi or the Morches were to come? I know the gates are surrounding the school but what if they somehow got through them?"
"King Abe doubled up on guardians for a reason. If they show up we're ready. The rest of the students will hide in a secure location until the battle is over with." Mrs. Kovok explains.
"We made a promise with your mother to keep you safe and I intend to keep that promise."
