Chapter Thirty Nine

"Did you feel that?" Lily asks, looking at me.

I nod my head. "Yeah. I can feel your power."

"I can feel yours too."

"That's a good thing." Abe says. "It means you're both alive. The necklaces are your tracking device. With it, you can track down one another."

I pick up the necklace. "Why did you pick today to give it to us?"

"Because it makes me feel better knowing that you girls are safe and protected."

We give him a tight hug as Lucas walks up to us.

"Lucas. How are you, son?" Abe says.

"I'm doing great. Thanks for asking." Lucas answers.

"Is Lily giving you a hard time because if she is, let me know and I'll take care of it."

Lucas laughs as Lily glares at Abe.

"You're suppose to be on my side." Lily tells Abe.

Abe rolls his eyes playfully. "Oh right." He looks at Lucas. "You better be treating my little girl right or you'll regret it."

Lucas smiles. "No need to worry about that, sir."

Abe nods. "Good."

Lily stands by Lucas and as they're walking away I hear Lucas tell her.

"You're just mad because he likes me more."

"Where's Kyle?" Abe asks me.

I haven't told him I broke up Kyle some days ago. I don't know why but I guess I should tell him now.

"We actually broke up last week."

He frowns. "Why? Did he hurt you?"

I shake my head. "No. Of course not." I sign. "I just couldn't be with him anymore. It didn't feel right."

He gives me a hug. "I'm sorry about that. But promise me you'll keep your head up and I'll promise you'll find someone worth keeping."

Little does he know, I already found someone. I smile. "I promise."

He smiles back. "Good now go have fun."

I find Hayes in the same spot, still watching Sophie. He stops watching when he notice what's around my neck.

"He finally gave it to you."

"Yeah. He said it'd make him feel better knowing we have it."

"I can see where he's coming from."

"Where's that?"

"Ever since the day you arrived on this planet, Abe wore the necklaces every single day to make sure you two were okay. And when it lights up, then he'd something is wrong." Hayes tells me. "For years, nothing happened until the day of the car crash. At first we thought it truly was an accident because the necklaces didn't light up but then we figured it out. It only lights up when the other is in danger also."

It clicks in my head. "That night in L.A. when the necklaces lit up, Abe said they found us."

"Yeah that's because you and Lily were together again after so many years of being apart. Your scents were getting used to one other. So the necklace immediately lit up because it sense danger. Ramadi's men were coming."

"I get it." I say. "They'll get used to being together again, won't they?"

He nods. "Eventually but for now it might lit up at random times because it's trying get use to its new surrounding. But if that's happens, you can easily control it."

"How?"

"Tell it to calm down. Tell it you're not in harm's way and you're alright. It'll listen and the light will die down." He says. "One more thing." He adds. "The brighter is glows the more danger you're in."

"Nice to know." I mutter.

He smirks. "I don't think you have to worry about it."

He walks closer to me and my necklace glows, a tiny bit. I grin as I stare up at Hayes.

"Guardian Cipriano, are you putting me in harm's way?"

"Never." He says, stepping closer. "It's because your heart is racing."

Now that he mentioned it, my heart is beating uncontrollably. He glances around him before he wraps his arms around my waist and spins me into a place that conceals us from everyone else.

His lips immediately goes to my neck and I let out a soft moan. I arch my neck up higher as he moves up.

"You don't know I'm much I want to see what's underneath your dress." He whispers, huskily, in my ear.

I smirk. "What are you waiting for?"

"An invitation." He says.

"Hey! I offered a long time ago and you said you weren't ready." I remind him.

He rest his forehead against my shoulder as he groans. "I know don't remind me. I was ready for you but you didn't know what you know now back then. I didn't know how you would react if I took your virginity that night and you didn't know you were a princess and I was guardian, someone less than you."

"Why does that matter?" I ask.

"It matters because you deserve the best."

I lean back and stare into his grey eyes. "You are the best. It can't get any better than you."

"You think too high of me."

"You don't think high enough of youself." I kiss him. "I love you for who you are and that will never change."

"I love you." He tells me before capturing my lips again with his.

We move in sync and it's not a rush kiss but a slow meaningful one. I can feel everything he wanted to say, everything he wanted me to know. It's one of those kiss, you imagine you can have and never get tired of it. You can stay in the moment forever and never get bored. I'm in total bliss.

I begin to pout when Hayes slowly pulls away from me.

"Why the pout, Boo."

"I wasn't done kissing you." I tell him.

"Don't worry, there's more where that comes from." He backs away from me. "But we have to go, they're looking for you."

"How do you know?"

"My hearing is very good." He says. "Now come on."

I reluctantly follow him back to the party and once they see me, everyone begins to sing 'Happy Birthday'.

Sophie walks up to me. "Drink up, birthday girl." She tells me, holding out a suspicious red drink.

"What is it?" I ask, taking it from her.

"To the teachers, it's punch but to the students there's a little bit more to it."

I raise an eyebrow. "You spiked it?"

"Maybe..." She shrugs. "Try it and find out."

It is my birthday after all. I might as well. I take a drink of it.

Sophie rolls her green eyes. "It's not going work if you don't drink it all."

"Okay but I'm only doing one cup." I warn her.

She nods. "One's all you need."

I drown the drink and Sophie drags me to the dance floor. The party last for a few more hours before it's over with. And whatever Sophie gave me, I can fill it kicking in.

I'm not drunk, or at least I dont think I am. I'm probably am. I'm pretty much leaning all my weight on Hayes as he drags me to my room.

He opens the door and gently lays me on my bed. He takes my heels off and plants a kiss on my forehead before leaving.

I don't know how many hours past by before I hear a knock on the door. I don't want to get up but I do when I realize it's Lily.

I open the door. "Lily what are you doing?"

"Shh!" She says, putting her finger against her lips. "We're sneaking out."

"We are?" I ask.

"Not if you keep talking loud." A new voice says.

I turn my head to see Sophie. When did she get here? Okay something is obviously wrong with me.

"We're leaving now." Sophie says, stepping into my room. "Put your shoes on."

For some reason, I listen to her. I turn around and slip my feet into my black heels as Lily shuts the door.

"Okay come on." Sophie says, waving us over to the balcony.

Again, I listen to her and head over to the balcony. Sophie walks to the ledge and looks down.

"Are you ready?" She asks.

"Yeah. We're good to go." A new voice confirms.

"Good." Sophie says before climbing over the ledge. "You better catch me." She warns the person.

"No I'm just gonna let you fall." The person says dryly.

Sophie jumps and a few second later she orders for us to jump also.

"Come on girls."

Lily went first then I follow. The guy catches me, easily and sets me down in the snow.

"Where are we going?" I finally ask.

"To a club nearby." Sophie replies as we walk through the snow to the gates.

"Why?" I ask.

"Would you stop asking so many questions and just follow along like Lily." Sophie says.

"Yeah Millie, just go with the flow." Lily agrees.

We reach the gate and there's an opening. It looks man made but I don't question as we slip through it. We walk a little farther before we come to an old beaten up car.

"Get it." Sophie order.

I open the car door and hop inside and Lily slides in beside me. The guy hops into the driver side and Sophie takes the passenger seat.

No one talks as we drive to this unknown club. I glance down at my necklace and it's glowing slightly. It's a beautiful bright blue. I look at Lily's and hers is glowing too.

Didn't it mean something? Maybe it doesn't. Or maybe it does. I can't be sure. My head isn't screwed on right and I can't think straight. What's wrong with me?

We finally reach the club after two hours of driving. The guy parks the car and we climb out the car and head inside the building.

Even through it's close to being two o'clock in the morning the place is still packed. The music is blaring and the people are in their our world as they dance to the beat.

"I wanna dance." Lily says, touching my arm.

"Let's dance then." I say, leading us into the middle of the dance floor.

We dance and dance until I can't anymore. I scan the room for Sophie.

"Where's Sophie?" I ask.

"Over there." Lily points to the bar.

"Okay I'll be right back." I yell over the music.

She nods."Okay."

I leave Lily on the dance floor and head to the bar. As soon as I get there, it hits me. I finally realize what I'm doing and where I am.

I look around the place then at Sophie. "Sophie what are we doing here?"

She rolls her eyes. "I had a feeling something like this would happen. That the effect would wear off. It's a good thing we stopped here."

I frown. "What are you talking about? We need to leave."

"You're right about that. We do need to leave." She says, getting up from her stool. "You need to drink."

She holds out a glass and I push it away from me. "I'm not drinking that."

"Let me make this clear. It wasn't a choice. You are going to drink it."

Before I know what's happening, someone is holding on to me while Sophie forces the drink down my throat. I try not to swallow any of it as I struggle to get free but I don't have a choice when whoever is holding me, pulls my hair back and make the liquid slide down my throat.

The person lets me go and my vision fades in and out. In less than ten seconds, I black out as I fall to the ground.

Hayes' P.O.V

Around one, I make my way to Millie's room. She was probably already asleep but I'm pretty sure she would wake up when she hears, she can finally see what I've been up to.

I make it to her room in less than ten minutes. I don't bother to tell James that I'm climbing up the wall because he should be use to it now. I pull myself over the ledge and open the door.

I frown when I don't see her laying in her bed. I glance at the bathroom but the lights are off. She isn't here.

Where could she be?

I don't worry because she has to be with Lily. She always did sneak into her twin's room. But she hasn't done that in awhile now.

I see the same box laying on the floor beside her bed and I pick it up. I twist it in my hand. Something's telling me to open it but I don't.

Shrugging the unsettling feeling away, I walk out to the balcony and jump down. I'm heading back to my room when I see a figure.

I make the figure out, easily. "Lucas?" The figure stops and turns around slowly. "What are doing?"

"I uh..I was...just walking." He lies.

I raise an eyebrow. "Around the girls' building."

He rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah..." He glances up. "Okay fine." He gives in. "You caught me. I went to go see Lily. What are you doing? What do you have in your hands?"

"It doesn't matter." I tell him. "Was Millie in there?"

"No. Was she suppose to be?" He asks, cocking an eyebrow.

"She's not in her room." I state.

His eyes widen. "Neither is Lily. I thought she was in Millie's room."

Something is wrong. Really wrong. I scan the area and that's when I notice there's no guardians on watch. Someone got in and they took the girls.

"I need to get to Reid."

Lucas begins to panic. "Why? What's going on?"

I ignore him and sprint to Reid's room. I bang on the door, repeatedly.

"Reid!" I yell. "Get up!"

A minute later Reid opens the door, rubbing his eye. "What?" He asks in a sleepy tone.

In one sentence, Reid jumps straight into guardian mode as his eyes turns cold and hard.

"The girls are missing."
