Chapter Ten
Chapter Ten
As much as I hate school, I'm pretty excited for today. We can finally nominate the nine people who can be possible playing at the Halloween Bash. Mrs. Garner already had the voting sheets on our desk when we walk into her class. She discussing the rules and how we can only pick three people for each of the groups. I didn't really care who went in the dancer and musician group but my group I made sure I put a big round circle around Ava's name. I want her to be my opponent.
I watch the clock tick down to the last second of fourth period. I've been waiting for lunch to come for I can found out who got nominated.
"Slow down, Millie" Lily tells me. "They're not going to announce it until everyone is in the cafeteria."
"I know but I want to see Ava's face when they announce who got nominated."
"I thought you didn't care about the bash?" Sophie asks.
"I didn't but everyone keeps mentioning it and Ava thinks she better than everyone."
Lily grabs my arm and motions for everyone else to go inside the cafeteria.
"You do remember you're the siren?" She says. "Your voice is far more powerful than Ava's."
I nod my head. "Yeah I know."
"Okay so don't let your power get in the way of who you truly are. If Ava wants to think she's better than everyone then let her."
"You're right." I say. "I promise I won't let my power get the best of me."
"I'm holding you to that." She says. "Come on. Let's see who got nominated."
We walk inside the cafeteria and Mrs. Kovok gets everyone's attention. "The people who have got nominated are: Shelly Grinder, David Flincher, and Rhonda Asher for the dancers."
We clap for the three nominees. She continues on with the musicians and ends with the singers.
"Your singer are Ethan Reed, Ava Vander and Millian Delariox."
After the clapping ends, Mrs. Kovok speaks again.
"I'll let you know what song you will be working with later on in the day. The audition will take place in Friday in the auditorium. So on Friday do not go to your first period. Go straight to the auditorium."
"See I told you, you would make it" Lucas says.
I roll my eyes. "Thanks for voting for me."
"You told me not to" He says.
"Yeah I know but-"
Lily interrupts me. "But nothing. You got nominated." She changes the subject. "Have you talked to Abe about that cancer performance? I really want to design the shirts."
I shake my head. "No but Mr. Dean said he'll talk to him and let me know by tomorrow if it's a yes."
"If it is a yes, how many guardians do you think we'll need?" Sophie asks.
I shrug. "It depends on how many people go."
"How many people are you looking at?" Lucas ask.
"Umm about....twenty roughly."
"What kind of performance are you trying to pull off?" Laura ask.
"An incredible one. Twenty people isn't a lot." I point out.
"Yeah it is." Hayes says, joining the conversation. "It's way more than what it should be."
"I didn't think it would be a problem." I say.
"Yeah because you don't think" He tells me.
"Well excuse me for trying to do something out of this hellhole for a change." I scoot my chair back and get up. "Don't follow me." I tell him as I walk out the cafeteria.
I storm down the hall and into the vacant music room. I slam the door behind me, letting most of my anger out.
He doesn't talk to me since the day I confronted him about him saving me back in Arysn and now when he does it's the wrong thing.
Maybe he is right. Maybe I should just forget about him and just admit it was a fling and move on. He certainly isn't trying to make me believe it otherwise.
There's a knock on the door and I glare at the door.
"Go away, Hayes" I order, angrily.
"It's not Hayes" The responds comes back. "It's me. Sophie."
"What do you want?" I ask.
"I wanna talk. Let me in, please."
Sighing, I open the door for her and she steps inside, shutting the door behind her.
"What? Did Hayes tell you to come and talk to me?"
She shakes her head. "No. I came on my own." She says. "I know you guys have known each other for a while but why do you hate one another?" She questions. "I mean Lily and Reid aren't like that."
I roll my eyes. "He's your brother. Let him tell you why. Oh yeah that's right. It's forbidden." I mock Hayes.
Sophie frowns in confusion. "What's forbidden?"
I shake my head. "Nothing just forget it."
"I bet it has something to do with you spending all your time with Lucas"
I scoff as I roll my eyes. I wish.
She turns her head to the side. "Does Hayes like you? Because I see the way he looks at you and something is in his eyes. I don't know maybe regret." She tells me. "I could be wrong but I have a feeling that you like him but you're crushing on someone else."
I stare at him. She isn't wrong but she she isn't entirely right either.
She snaps her fingers. "I'm right. Am I not?"
"Yes. No." I sigh. "It's complicated."
"What's complicated?" She ask. "Please tell me. He's my brother. I don't want him to feel however he feels anymore."
Yeah what does he feel? She mentioned Hayes showing regrets in his eyes.
"I'm only telling you about this because he's your brother but you can't tell anyone. Hayes can't even know about it. Okay?"
She nods her head once. I fill her in about how Hayes and I use to date but now we don't because of the law and Hayes words of it being a fling.
"So... you two aren't dating anymore?" She asks after I finish my story.
"No." I say. "It sucks because I really did love him."
I had a feeling, a long time ago, something like this would happen. That I would somehow get my heart broken again and it happened. But I still fell for him.
"But look on the bright side." She says. "Lucas likes you."
I raise one of my eyebrow. "Lucas doesn't like me."
"You don't know it yet but believe me he does." She tells me. "You two are perfect for one another."
Sophie doesn't know Lucas and Lily have a thing for each other. I want to tell her she has it all wrong but I promised Lucas and Lily I wouldn't tell anyone about them.
I smile. "No, trust me, his eyes are on someone else."
She smiles too but hers is evil. "Hayes doesn't have to know about it. Let him think you two have a connection and he'll realize he lost you and maybe Lucas and you can turn into something more."
I like the way she thinks but I couldn't do that to Lily. But then again getting revenge on Hayes doesn't sound too bad.
"I'll think about it." I tell her as the bell rings.
I walk out the music room and Hayes spots me. I don't say anything to him and he doesn't say anything to me. Go figure.
It isn't until we're walking into Mr. Dean's class when Hayes finally decides to say something.
"Look I'm sorry for everything I did." He says. "I'm not hoping for you to blow pass everything but I am hoping we can still be friends again"
Friends? I look him in his eyes.
"You broke my heart and you want us to be friends?" I shake my head. "You're not sorry and you were never my friend because if you were you would have never done it."
I walk into the class, leaving Hayes to deal with my cold detachment.
