Chapter Five

Mrs. Kovok stops Lily and I on our way to English. We turn to see her walking towards us.
 
"Your father wanted me to tell you, to have your clothes packed after school" She tells us.
 
"Why?" Lily asks, confused.
 
"He wants you two to stay with him on the weekends." She informs us.

I shrug. "Fine by me."

I can not last a whole week in this place. Five days out of the week is enough. I feel bad for the students who had to stay here.

We walk inside of Ms. Garner's class and take our sits as the bell rings. I smile at Lucas. He was so getting questioned.

Lily gives him a small smile and I glanced back and forth between them. They are going to make such a cute couple. I'm actually getting jealous.

Ms. Garner begins her lesson about some writing essay she wants us to start sometime next week.

"Today is the day I finally get to hear your voice" I tell Lucas during lunch.

His rolls his eyes. "I'm telling you it's nothing special."

Danielle sits down beside me. "Whatever Luke." She looks at me. "His voice is amazing."

"It is" Laura agrees. "I don't know why he's lying."

"I'm not lying."

Laura and Danielle both rolls their eyes, not believing him. Lily comes and sits beside Lucas and I can't help but to smiling.

"Love is in the air" I say, grinning.

Laura looks at me. "It's not spring, Millie."
 
"And?" I say. "It's still blossoming"
 
Lily kicks me under the table and I jump. She glares at me and I give her a look.

"Millie are you in love with someone?" Danielle asks, curious.
 
I look at Lily and her eyes begged me to go along with it. She really doesn't want anyone to find out about her and Lucas.
 
"You caught me red handed" I say putting a fake smile on. "I like someone."
 
"Omigosh!" Laura yells. "Who is it? Is it Chad David? Cause I can see why you fell for him."
  
I don't even know a Chad David. I shake my head. "No it's-"

"Zander James." Danielle suggests.
 
"No it's um..." I think of a name. Which so happen to be my ex name. "Jason Shaws."
 
Laura and Daniella exchange glances. Lily places her head down and Lucas just looks confused. Hayes glances at me from the corner of his eyes. This plan might actually work.

"Jason Shaws?" Lucas repeats. "We don't have a Jason Shaws at this school."

I nod my head. "Yeah I know." I tell them. "He uh...goes to a different school. But our feelings for one another is too powerful for distance"

"Aww that's so cute" Laura says.
 
"Very" I agree.

Lily owes me big time. She gives me a huge smile.
 
"Tell us more about this Jason guy." Lily says after looking at Hayes.
 
Lily knows everything about Jason. I told her about him. But I know what she's doing. So I go along with her.

The afternoon classes seem to go slower but it finally reached the last class of the day. We pile into Mr. Dean's class, excited to present our first assignment to the class.

Well they were excited. I'm nervous. Ava and I haven't been able to get through the whole song without stopping due to all the arguing we have done. This will be the first time we get through the song, hopefully.
 
Mr. Dean walks onto the stage, getting our attention.

"Alright" He says. "It's Friday and as you know, your assignment is due today. I hope you are prepared to sing. If you mess up keep going. So who wants to go first?"

He scans the room, looking for any volunteers.
    
"No one? Okay well how about Xavier and Dawn go first."
 
The two partners groans as they get up and head to the stage, passing Mr. Dean as he heads off the stage.

He grabs a clipboard and motion for them to begin. He jots down notes as they sing. They sound great. They had no problem making us feel happy.

As more people goes up there, I get nervous. I keep thinking of what will happen if I mess up?

But that thought disappears when Sophie and her partner, Zach walks onto the stage. She smiles at Hayes, standing in the back.
 
Most of the girls who has gone up there kept their eyes on Hayes. They were trying to impress him with their voice. And to be honest, they sound amazing.
 
Sophie and Zach sings What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts. Their voices sound great together. While they sing, I think of Hayes. It hurts to think he will just give me, us, up.

That verse fits us perfectly. They sung the song with much emotions, I could feel it. Maybe it was because I felt the same way.
    
"Sophie did you get Zach to work on this song longer than a day?" Mr. Dean asks.
       
Sophie smiles. "Yeah. It's amazing how much power a girl has."
       
Zach rolls his eyes before hopping off the stage. And I got to admit, he does have an incredible voice. If they can pull it of with two practices, then Ava and I can too.
     
I grin when I see Lucas and his partner, Ashley, head to the stage. He returns the smile. This is it. I can finally hear his voice after six days of asking.
       
My jaw drops when his sings the first verse. His voice is....wow. It is indescribable.

He winks when Ashely starts singing. I tune her out and just focus on Lucas. His voice is just that great.
       
He sits beside me, still grinning, after he preforms.
        
"You little lair." I accuse him. "Your voice is....amazing." I settle on.
         
"Do you think it'll won Lily over?" He asks.
         
I cross my arms over my chest. "Are you serious? If Lily doesn't say yes to you, I will." I tell him. "How come you didn't tell me you like her?"
          
He smirks. "Are you getting jealous?"
           
I roll my eyes. "No I just-"
            
Mr. Dean stops me from explaining myself to Lucas.

"Ava and Millian. You are the last ones to performs. Get up there"
           
"Good luck" Lucas tells me.
            
"Don't mess up" Ava tells me as we walk up the stairs. I roll my eyes.
            
I stand in front of the mic and Ava stands beside me.

Here goes nothing. I think to myself.
          
I grip the mic stand as Mr. Dean plays our music. It starts off fast.

We break apart and I sing the next part by myself. I look straight in front of me, into Hayes' eyes.

Ava joins in and I become her back up singer.

We repeat the first verse again before we sing another verse of the song.

This time Ava sings by herself. But the verse fits Hayes and I.

I sing and Ava becomes my back up singer.

We repeat the first verse again and move on to the verse containing you're taking over the beat of my body before Ava sings.

The fast beat changes to a slow one as I change keys.

I grab the mic and sing the next line of verse. The part Ava didn't want to sing.

We finish off the song and I couldn't help but look at Hayes. My heart pounds at an impossible rate. His eyes looks at me and something flashes through them.
   
"That was great." Mr. Dean says, pulling me away from Hayes. "You all did great. I have a an idea of where to put you guys but I can't tell you until next Monday." He tells us as we walk off the stage.

I fist bump Lucas as I sit down.
        
"Monday you have a new assignment. I'm picking your partners still but this time you can pick the song and make it your own." He informs us. "And this will be a grade so try to be creative."
    
He glances at his watch on his wrist. "You have five minutes to do whatever you want."
      
I turn to Lucas. "I can't believe you didn't tell me"
          
"I don't want rumors going away." He says. "It's not going last very long but it's still worth the fight"
         
"Why is it not going to last?" I ask.

"She's a princess and I'm just a person who's lucky to even be in the present of her."
           
Another rule that separates us from everyone else. Abe hasn't told us exactly that we couldn't date but we got the gist of it. I see why they want to keep it a secret, now. I glances behind me and I see Sophie talking Hayes. Could this be the reason why Hayes is so quick to walk away from me?
      
Lucas follows my glaze. "What's with you guys?" He asks. "Lily told me you used to be close but you're distant."
       
Hayes told me not to tell anyone about what happened between us because it was forbidden but I trust Lucas. We were going through the same thing.
         
"I'm in the same boat as you." I tell him. "He used to my boyfriend but he gave us up."
         
The bell rings and I stand up, grabbing my bag and walk out. Hayes follows me. Lily joins me and I throw my arm over her shoulders.
         
I give her a smile. "Are you ready to see the beast and face his claws?"
         
Lily matches my smile. "I think it's time we finally get our answers."
