Chapter Eight

I don't say much as I sit around the long dinner table, moving my unwanted food around my plate. Tonight is the last night here at the headquarters and we aren't even spending the night here.

In an hour, we are heading back to Arysn High. As much as I dislike staying here, I hate Arsyn High even more. But I'm starting to miss my group of friends.

"Millie are you okay?" Lily's voice brings me out of my thoughts.

Lately, I've been getting distracted. Even more than normal. I look at her. "Yeah. Why?"

"You haven't said much or eaten anything" She says, glancing at my plate of pasta.

I shrug. "I'm thinking. You know, I get lost in my thoughts."

"Oh yeah? What are you thinking about?"

"Music." I lie.

I don't know why I lied to her. Lily is a person I trust with all my heart. She's my twin.

If she sees through it, she doesn't say anything. I change the topic.

"So are you ready to see Lucas?"

She blushes. "A little." She looks around. "And can you lower your voice?"

I smile. "You do like him."

"Didn't we go over this, already?"

"We did but it's fun messing with you." I tell her.

"Girls what are you whispering about?" Abe asks, looking at us.

He hasn't said anything to us since dinner started. He was too busy talking to whatever Nathan and Monica was. I think it was the Councils.

"Music" I say as Lily says. "Art."

He gives us a confused look. I glance at Lily.

"Um, it's a picture of music by Raf..." I look at Lily.

"Rafusus." Lily says.

I nod my head. "Yeah Rafusus."

"I never heard of him before. Is he new?" Abe asks.

"Yeah. He makes amazing art." Lily says.

"I'll look him up when I get the chance." Abe promises.

"Okay you do that." I say before hitting Lily as soon as Abe looks away. "Really Rafusus?"

"First of all ow" She says. "And secondly, you didn't give me much to work with."

"Yeah but you could've done better than Rafusus"

"I tried, okay" She says, eating her pasta.

After dinner, I pack my clothes. Which isn't alot, considering we only stayed here for two days. Abe is waiting for us at the bottom of the stairs.

"With everything going on, I haven't got the chance to ask how school was going" Abe says as we walk to the front door.

I know he is referring to the night he told us about why we left Arysn and how Allison died. When you hear things like that, you couldn't just start a normal conversation. It takes some days to process the whole thing. I'm still trying to make sense of it.

Everything is clicking in places but there's one thing missing.

"School is okay." Lily tells him, stepping outside. "It's high school. There's nothing to expect, really."

"So there's no boy I need to worry about" He jokes, smiling.

My heart stops and I slowly look at Lily and I'm pretty sure she feels the same way I do. He couldn't possible heard our conversation, or did he?

"No. Why would you say that?" I ask, quickly.

Smooth, Millie. I think to myself. Real smooth.

"A father can't be curious about his daughters life?" He asks. "I could always as Reidese and Hayden, instead."

The boys turn their heads at the mention of their names.

"No." Lily says. "It's okay."

Abe eyes us, not believing us. Great. We're getting busted. Again.

Abe calls over the guy and I come up with reasons to defend Lily.

"What is it, sir?" Reid asks.

"Is there any boys I should be worrying about?"

I stare at Hayes, hoping he can see the pleading in my eyes. There's no way he would know what's going on with Lucas and Lily but you never know. This is a guy who knows about everything. Unlike Reid.

Reid shakes his head. "No, wait. There is a guy named Jason Shaws."

I smack my forehead with the palm of my hand as Lily breaths a sigh of relief. Reid is so dead.

Abe faces us and I put on an innocent smile.

"You're still dating that douchbag?"

Did he really just say douchbag?

"I wouldn't say dating per se" I tell him. "Jason...I still have feelings for him." I lie. "I wouldn't worry about it because-" I change the subject. "Don't you have someone to look up? Rafusus?" I ask. Abe gives me a confused look. "I would love to chat but look at the time we have get going. See you later."

I hop into the car before Abe can comprehend what I said. Lily joins me along with the boys.

I hit Reid. "You're such an idiot. I don't know how Lily put up with up."

"What did I do?" He ask, rubbing his head.

I roll my eyes. "Lily I'm sorry you got him as your guardian."

"He's not so bad." Lily says. "You get use to it after a while."

Hayes pulls up to the gate and they open it to let us leave. We pull up to the deserted highway.

"Can we listen to some music?" Lily asks after five minutes passes by. "I can't handle silence."

She leans over the console and turns up the music and she gets excited.

"This is one of my favorite song" She says, leaning back.

Reid groans. "Not this again."

"If you turn it, I'll rip your bloody arms off." She threatens him.

Reid sits back and looks ahead of him. What can I say, Lily can be scary at times.

"I know, I know, I know for sure" Lily sings. "Everybody wants to steal my girl, everybody wants to take her heart away Couple billions in the whole wide world Find another one cause she belongs to me" She grabs me as she sings the last part.

I laugh. "Kisses like cream Her walk is so clean And every jaw drop when she's in those jeans alright, alright" I join in. "I don't exist, if I don't have her The sun doesn't shine, the world doesn't turn alright, alright."

"Not you too, Millie." Reid says. "I thought you were different."

I shrug. "What can I say? I'm a sucker for cute boy bands."
