chapter five

"Round number two." Luke whispered over his shoulder to me as we entered the ISS room, Michael trudging in behind us.

We would've been saved by Michael if he didn't bring in his milkshake cup which ruined it all. Since he was so good at ass kissing though, we only had two days of this instead of the four that our principal was going to give to us.

We all sat down in the back corner where Luke and I had sat last time, this time with Michael joining us. It had been rather full today and just about everyone in the room was looking in our direction.

I uneasily settled in my desk as I pulled out my homework from last night that I was way too lazy to do. Even with huge tests coming up I couldn't be bothered to do anything that had to do with school. I was ready for the year to be over and enjoy my last summer as a high school student before I started applying to colleges.

My phone buzzed in my bag and I picked it up to see that I had a message from Ashton asking me where I was. I sighed and told him I was in ISS and would catch up with him later on after school and that since it was Friday, we'd be hanging out in our normal spot in the coffee shop attached to a bookstore.

"So, Andy," Michael began, easily getting my attention. "Are you coming tonight?" He raised an eyebrow at me as I gave him a confused look.

"I don't know what-"

"I was going to ask her." Luke butted in, glaring at Michael. He turned around in his seat to face me. "I'm having a party tonight, come." He insisted.

I glanced back over to Michael then back to Luke, realizing that their stares were growing heavier as they wanted for my answer.

"I would, but I'm meeting up with Ashton after school." I answered, digging around in my backpack for a pencil.

"Then come after that." He shook his head at me as if I was supposed to know that.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Michael asked, tilting his head slightly to the side. If there's anything I've learned over the course of the pass two days with both of them was that despite the intimidation factor, they were both pretty dumb, but in the good way.

"No." I laughed, answering him quickly. "We're just friends, always have, always will." I explained.

Both of the boys nodded as they took in the information, quickly losing themselves into a conversation about what their plans were tonight. I sunk back into my seat and put one of my headphones in as I continued to text Ashton back and forth. We were in the middle of talking about meeting up with Calum after school when I felt Luke kick my desk, grabbing my attention.

"Can you supply booze?" Luke questioned, tapping his fingers on my desk, fiddling with my papers.

I shook my head, "I'm not old enough."

"Who says you have to be old enough?" Michael scoffed which covered his laugh. "Your parents, do they drink?" He questioned.

"My dad does, he makes all of those fancy drinks for whenever his coworkers come over for dinner. It's great watching old guys get hammered." I said, looking between the blank stares of both boys. I raised my eyebrows at them, "That was a joke."

"Alright Andy Emerson, you supply alcohol and I supply...everything else." Luke stated.

"You can call me just Andy." I told him as I still didn't understand why he used my full name. He rolled his eyes and waved me off as I had told him this probably too many times and he still hadn't budged. It was quite funny, actually.

"Come at nine," He said. "Do you need a ride?" His head tilted slightly to the side as the tip of his tongue toyed with his lip ring.

"Are you planning on getting me drunk?" I asked, trying to keep quiet since the ISS teacher was eyeing us.

"Yeah." He smirked then gave me a nod. I tapped my fingers on my desk, looking between the teacher then to Michael then back to Luke. My stomach had knotted at the thought of tonight, but with excitement instead of nerves.

"Then yes, I do." I answered. He raised his eyebrows at me and kept his smug look, turning back around in his seat so we could actually get back to work.

-

I quickly typed a response to Luke's text since we've been nonstop texting after school got out. It was mostly about the party, small details for the most part.

"Andy." Ashton's raised voice caught my attention and I snapped my head up from my lap. He shook his head at me, leaning back into his chair and bumping the small table we were sitting at. It was surprisingly crowed in the small coffee shop, but then again it was a great place to study.

"Did you hear what I said?" He questioned as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"You were talking about that girl you met over spring break." I quickly replied, trying my best to remember what he was going on about before I zoned out for a moment.

"And?" He added.

"And," I stretched out the word trying to recall any memory of him talking about her. "Okay, I don't remember." I admitted, giving him a sheepish look.

"Why am I friends with you?" He shook his head as he sat back up in his chair and scooted closer to the table. I checked the time as he did so, realizing that it was almost 8 and if I wanted to make it to this party I'd have to leave soon. "Anyways, I want to take her to prom." He told me.

"Then take her." I nodded at him as I began to collect the few things that I had. He gave me a confused look then shook it off, copying my actions.

"But how do I ask her?" He furrowed his eyebrows at me while I tossed my back pack over my shoulder.

"You say, 'Hey Blair, wanna go to prom with me?'" I said, earning a laugh from him.

"I don't know if it's that easy." He sighed.

"Why would it not be?" I grabbed our empty coffees from off of the table and headed towards the trash can with Ashton trailing right behind me.

"Don't girls usually like to be asked in a really big and cute way?" He tightly clung onto the straps of his book bag as I turned back around to him.

"Not all girls." I laughed, referring to myself. "If she likes you enough then she won't care how you ask her." I shrugged my shoulder as I continued explaining it to him. "Look, just ask her. If you think she'd prefer something big then go for it. I'm sure she would be just fine with you just normally asking her." I assured him, giving him a smile.

"What about you?" He asked as he pushed the shop's door open.

"What about me?" I replied, instantly hugging myself from the cooler weather.

"Are you going to prom?" He looked over at me as we walked down the cement path around the bookstore, heading the way to our cars.

"If someone asks me then I guess. I know all of my friends are going to have dates and that would kind of suck to be the like, eleventh wheel. It would be like homecoming from 9th grade all over again." I answered, laughing at the memory that was actually horrible back then but was silly now.

"I'm sure you'll get asked." He said as he dug through his pockets for his keys. "Why are leaving here early in the first place? We usually stay until 9 or something." He asked, changing the subject.

"I just have a few things to do." I shrugged, not wanting to tell him that I planned on going to a party at Luke's since Ashton knew that I got myself into too much trouble at parties.

He slowly nodded his head at my answer, "I'll be home all day tomorrow, parents are out for the weekend so you can come over if you want." He suggested as we were now getting into our own cars.

He sat in his, slamming the door and rolling down the window on the passengers side so he could actually talk to me.

"Just give me a heads up." He practically shouted as I started up my car. I gave him a thumbs up and a thin smile, letting him know that I heard him. I had grown more eager throughout the day for tonight and it all seemed to be hitting hard now.

I gave Ashton a short wave and back out from my spot, speeding off to my house with an hour to get a few things ready, including myself.

-

I rushed down my stairs to let Luke into my house who had practically been banging on my front door for two minutes straight. I yanked the door open, surprising the boy in front of me.

"I thought you were coming at nine." I huffed, blowing a loose piece of hair out of my hair that I just finished.

"I'm half an hour early, who cares." He shrugged, stepping into my house. I watched him make himself comfortable, kicking his feet on the glass coffee table and all.

I looked down at my clothes and then back up to Luke who was raising an eyebrow at me, a single finger resting lightly on his bottom lip.

"What?" I asked, probably sounding more harsh than anything. He narrowed his eyes at me and dropped his hand to stop playing with the ring around his lip.

"Are you ready?" He asked after a second of silence. I nodded towards my stairs, already backing up so I could climb them.

"I just need to go put on shoes." I told him, skipping over a few steps as I walked up them and towards my room.

"Hurry." He called out which I simply ignored.

I dug around in my closet to find anything that matched yet had the problem of not being able to find the other matching shoe. I groaned as I shut my closet, deciding to get a few things together as I knew there was something I could slip on downstairs.

I went into my bathroom, touching up my appearance and rummaging through my drawers to grab my secret money stash just in case anything pops up. I turned off my light as I left, nearly screaming when I found someone standing in the middle of the room.

"Why are you in here?" I practically yelled at him.

He shrugged his shoulders, "You took too long."

"I was up here for maybe two minutes." I defended myself as he showed no change of his expression, leaving me to think he really didn't care. "I have shoes down stairs along with all the alcohol you'll ever need to keep you in a hospital." I sighed, already heading out my bedroom door.

"There's not that many people coming, we won't need that much." He explained, his shoes scuffing against my hardwood stairs.

"How'd you even find my room?' I questioned as I led him to the kitchen.

"The door was open." He answered as if it was the most reasonable answer on earth. I let out a short laugh as I bent down to open the cabinet that held the drinks.

"I had a feeling you were going to say that." I replied as I dug through the bottles and cases. I gathered a few, knowing that my dad would never notice since he doesn't drink that much and still thinks I've never even looked at a beer bottle before.

"Is this enough?" I laughed, knowing that it as more than enough. I stood up and handed a few things to Luke who looked more than eager to get going.

"It'll do." He said, giving me a half smile. I rolled my eyes as we headed towards my front door and were careful enough not to drop anything. He shut the door behind us with his foot nudging my arm as he passed me to get to his car.

"You're annoying, you know that?" I was joking when I said this, well for the most part, and all Luke did was smile at me.

"I do, Andy Emerson, and I take pride in it." He nodded his head at me right before shutting the trunk of his car once everything was loaded in.

I hopped in the passenger seat, catching him grinning for a second before it fell as he slid into his chair and started up his car and headed no where but to his house.
