"Hoseok!"
Hoseok jumped at the sound of that particular voice calling his name. He turned around, looking as if he had just seen a ghost.
(A/N: Self-promo, bitches. Read Death's Charmer for clear skin 💅)
"O-oh... Yoongi." The brunet nervously greeted, gawking at the sight of the blonde. His heart rate increased and his cheeks blossomed into a faint shade of red.
He hadn't talked to the older since the day he basically told him to fuck off. Since then, Hoseok would avoid any routes Yoongi usually took before and after classes. He wanted to give him the space he asked for.
Despite it hurting him, he had to be selfless for once, respecting the other's wish. The brunet never got to tell Yoongi about his new found feelings but he took it as karma for all the times he focused on Jimin when he could've given in to Yoongi.
"Are you heading to class?" The older question, playing with the silver bracelet he refused to take off even after he broke up with Hoseok. The brunet noticed it, his heart clenching at the sight of his gift.
"Yeah..."
"Oh, nevermind then—"
"NO—no, I-I'll skip." Hoseok insisted, eyes pleading.
Yoongi nodded, gesturing toward a bench at the very end of the hall. They silently walked there side by side and seated themselves with a good distance between.
"Jimin told me you pushed him away." The blonde informed him, getting straight to the point. "He also told me you said you love me."
Hoseok nodded weakly.
"Do you like Jimin?"
He shook his head.
"But you liked him?"
The brunet didn't respond, lowering his eyes.
"Why?"
Hoseok looked up, confused. "Huh?"
"Tell me what made you like him so much that you'd go through all that trouble to get closer to him— to forget that your shitty plan had the possibility of hurting me." His words sounded bitter but his heart was truly just in pain.
It took a while before the brunet could answer, thinking back to the first time he noticed Jimin.
Then he finally spoke up. "That night wasn't the first night I had to deal with Jimin while he was drunk."
Hoseok was just about to leave the bar when a blonde crying outside the building caught his attention.
The male lifted his head up to wipe away his tears before leaning his forehead back on his palms, sobs racking his body.
Jimin Park.
Anyone attending their college would've recognized him in a second. The guy was quite popular on campus and almost everyone had a thing for him.
Everyone except for Hoseok.
The brunet didn't really see anything special about him. Sure, he was good-looking but he seemed pretty conceited and all about his looks. Hoseok wasn't into those type of guys— though he was aware he shouldn't be judging the male when he had never talked to him.
But Hoseok felt bad and decided to check up on him.
He approached the crouched blonde, slowly kneeling in front of him. "Hey, man. You okay?"
Jimin looked up, red puppy eyes meeting the brunet's. The older would've lied if he said his heart didn't skip a beat.
The blonde shook his head, lids droopy. He was drunk. They were outside a bar, of course he was.
"Wanna talk about it?" Hoseok offered, sitting crisscrossed on the ground.
"I-I wanna disappear." Jimin giggled though his lifeless eyes displayed a contradicting emotion.
The brunet now felt bad for his previous outlook on the younger.
"Come on, don't say that—"
"You don't undersstaanndd." The smaller whined, hiccuping. "I hate all the attentionnn. I-I never asked for any of it. It makes it hard to figure out who truly likes me for me when everyone only likes me for my looks. I don't even see what's so speciaall about me!"
Okay, he clearly wasn't full of himself and Hoseok shouldn't have assumed that because now he felt guilty.
"I just want... I just want someone that likes me enough to go out of their way and show me that they really do." Jimin whispered, eyes watering again. "I-I hate when guys f-flirt just to get me in bed. M-makes me feel like a toy."
The younger was full on crying again and the brunet decided to stay with him, giving his company.
Present Day
"I realized he wasn't the stuck up snob that I thought he was." Hoseok continued after his story. "I started catching feelings after that and wanted to be the one that went out of my way to show him I liked him."
Yoongi nodded, it hurt to hear but he was glad to know the brunet had good intentions with his best friend... even if it added to the older's misery.
"I don't really know what to say." The blonde admitted. "Hearing that only made me love you more. I don't want to but I can't control my own heart. God— I even changed my hair because of you." He held a piece of strand up with a sad chuckle.
"You always complimented Jimin's hair but never once complimented mine. Actually— you've never complimented me at all." Yoongi told him with a frown. "I went blonde hoping you'd finally notice me which was dumb since we already broke up."
"You didn't have to do that, Yoon. I loved your mint hair— I still do. You'd look good in any hair color you decide to wear. I'm sorry I never told you sooner." Hoseok hesitantly took the other's hand between both of his own, afraid of being rejected. Thankfully, the older didn't pull away. "You're beautiful no matter what you do with yourself. You're beautiful as a blonde and you were beautiful with your old hair. A-and I love you for you."
Yoongi felt his heart stop. "What about Jimin?"
"I promise, I'm over him. I never loved him and I realized that before we even kissed." The brunet admitted, embarrassed. "Jin was lecturing me about hurting you before I got to the bar. I kissed back on instinct but I felt nothing. I felt more sparks from that tiny peck I gave you than that meaningless kiss with Jimin."
The older dropped his gaze on the floor, biting the inside of his cheek when he felt his cheeks heating up. "Just because you like me now, doesn't mean I'll give in so easily, Hoseok."
"I-I know." Hoseok whispered defeatedly, letting go of the blonde's hand.
"I wanna see you go out of your way for me." Yoongi stated, fiddling with his own sweater paws. "I wanna know that you're serious about loving me."
The younger smiled softly, taking both of the blonde's hands into his.
"I'd do anything to win you back."
