Chapter 5

"Hey Hongjoong, how's it going," Wooyoung asked as he leant against the bar, waiting for the blue-haired boy to make his drink.

"It's good, just as good as the last time you asked about 2 minutes ago," Hongjoong replied, placing down a class.

"Huh, I don't remember asking that," Wooyoung said with a pout.

"That's cos you've been having a bit too much fun tonight," Hongjoong said with a chuckle.

"Nuh uh, can never have too much fun," Wooyoung said with a giggle.

"Ok, let's actually take this back," Hongjoong said, reaching out and grabbing the glass from Wooyoung. Wooyoung whined and desperately tried to cling to the class, leaning forwards for as long as he could with his lips on the glass to try and drink until Hongjoong completely yanked it away. Wooyoung pouted, reaching out with grabby hands for the glass.

"Oh yeah, you are far too drunk right now," Hongjoong said with a chuckle. Wooyoung gasped dramatically, completely affronted.

"How dare you spill these fiw-fiwy-fithy lies," Wooyoung stuttered out, his words slightly slurred.

"Here, drink this," Hongjoong said, holing out a glass.

"What is it," Wooyoung asked warily.

"It's a special potion for fairies," Hongjoong replied with a shrug. Wooyoung's eyes lit up and he clapped happily.

"Gimme, gimme," he said, stumbling slightly with how eager he was. He grabbed the glass and guzzled it down quickly.

"That was so plain, give me something songa," Wooyoung said, falling forwards slightly.

"I'm gonna guess you were trying to say stronger and that's gonna be a no from me. You have had way too much to drink. I tell you what, why don't you go for a walk and go see Lynx," Hongjoong said. Wooyoung perked up at that. He really should go and see Lynx. He clapped happily before pushing himself away from the bench before stumbling forwards again. Hongjoong's hand shot out to grab Wooyoung's arm to stabilise him.

"Wooyoung please go find Lynx. Yeosang isn't here and I can't keep an eye on you. You're starting to worry me," Hongjoong said. Wooyoung giggled and grabbed his wallet, pulling out a $100 bill and putting it on the bench. Hongjoong's eyes widened and he shook his head.

"Wooyoung, your tab was like $40," he said.

"Oh well, tipsy tip," Wooyoung said, moving away from the bench before Hongjoong could protest. Hongjoong called out but Wooyoung ignored him and hobbled over to the door at the back of the room. He forgot the door had a handle on it and ran into it before hurriedly opening it and going through. He quickly made his way down the hall, as quickly as he could in his drunken state. He was looking around to try and find the door before he finally found it and grinned, hurrying over and flinging the door open. He looked around the room but couldn't find San anywhere, not even around the corner. They've gotten closer over the past few weeks and Wooyoung has become accustomed to this room. He walked inside and closed the door, going around the corner and over to the old couch. It wasn't much but he was bored so he dropped down onto it and stretched out happily. He pouted as he looked around and found he was still alone. He huffed but relaxed into the couch, feeling tiredness suddenly seep in. He snuggled down a bit more, his eyes slipping closed.

~~~~~
A noise jolted Wooyoung out of his slumber and he lazily slipped his eyes open to San walking into the room. He sat up quickly, feeling dizzy from how quick he moved but he shuffled to the end of the couch and leant his hands on the bench, dropping his head down onto them. He watched San as he moved around, not having realised Wooyoung was there and watching him. He was wearing a hoodie and familiar black pants that he wears almost every fight. He went over to a bag and pulled out a shirt and some bandages. Wooyoung's eyes widened and his mouth went dry as San pulled off his hoodie, realising he was getting undressed.
When San pulled off his shirt, Wooyoung expected to feel hot and bothered but instead he felt horrified. It felt like someone had poured ice cold water over his body and he felt like he sobered out pretty quickly. San's body was littered with bruises and scars. It was like his body was some sick sort of painting of pain.
"San," he gasped out. San jumped in shock, his head snapping up in fright as his heart pounded.
"Wooyoung, what the fuck," he said but Wooyoung barely heard him, his eyes running over the bruises. He jumped up quickly, wanting to rush over to San but he forgot he was still quite intoxicated and tripped, falling over.
"Wooyoung!" San ran around the corner, grabbing Wooyoung's arms and pulling him up.
"Are you ok," he asked worriedly.
"M'a little bit drunk," Wooyoung admitted, squeezing his thumb and second finger together. His head felt a little fuzzy and he realised he hadn't sobered up as much as he thought.
"Ok, why don't we sit down," San said, directing him over to the couch where they both sat down.
"What're you doing here," San asked.
"Hongjoong told me to come here cos I was drunk," Wooyoung replied. He glanced over at San, his eyes landing on his shoulder which was one of the only places left completely untouched.
"Damn, you must've been drunk, drunk," San said with a chuckle. Wooyoung was still focused on San's shoulder, not even listening to what San was saying.
"Hey, you ok," San asked worriedly.
"Wooyoung, are you ok," San asked worriedly.
"Wooyoung, are you ok," San repeated when he got no reply. Wooyoung was still fixated on that shoulder, intrusive thoughts running through his head. He hesitated for a second before giving in. He bent down quickly, chomping down on the shoulder and making San yelp.
"Wooyoung, what the fuck," San said, moving away quickly. It wasn't even just a little nip, it was a full on chomp. Wooyoung giggled and San tilted his head in confusion before understanding it was probably because he's drunk.
"Ok, now that's done with, can you tell me if you're ok," San asked.
"I'm fine, just dizzy and fuzzy," Wooyoung replied.
"Alright well, why don't you lay down for a bit. I've got about 30 minutes until I need to go out so you can just relax," San said. Wooyoung smiled happily and wrapped his arms around San's waist, dropping his head down onto his shoulder and letting his eyes slip closed. San jolted slightly at that, not having expected it but he relaxed and rubbed Wooyoung's back gently. He would've stayed like that to let Wooyoung rest but he did need to get ready.
"Hey Wooyoung, I'm sorry but I need to get ready. If you give me a minute, I can grab my wrap and you can rest on my lap while I wrap up my hands," San said. Wooyoung yawned slightly but nodded, moving away. San was gone for a minute before he came back and sat down on the end of the couch, guiding Wooyoung down so his head was resting in his lap. Wooyoung's face ended up beside San's abdomen and was reminded of the bruises.
"You're hurt," he said softly. San was confused but glanced down and remembered the bruises, something he's used to but Wooyoung definitely isn't.
"I'm fine Wooyoung. Bruises are just a part of the life of a fighter. These don't even hurt, most are pretty old to be honest," San said, rubbing Wooyoung's hair softly.
"You sure," Wooyoung asked worriedly.
"Positive," San replied. Wooyoung was satisfied and rolled on his back, relaxing. He laid there like that for a few minutes watching in wonder as San skilfully wrapped up his hand.
"That's cool to watch," Wooyoung said. San glanced down and smiled softly when he saw Wooyoung watching him with eyes of wonder.
"It's really not much but you can watch me wrap the other hand," he said with a shrug. Wooyoung nodded quickly, watching as San started to wrap his right hand with just as much precision as the other hand.
"Hey Sannie, can I ask you something please," Wooyoung asked.
"Go ahead," San replied.
"When did you start fighting," Wooyoung asked.
"Uh professionally or just in general," San asked.
"Professionally," Wooyoung replied.
"I started when I turned 18," San replied quietly, his focus on his hand and wrapping.
"That young," Wooyoung said in surprise. San sighed and shook his head.
"I gotta get ready, can you sit up," he asked. Wooyoung sat up quickly despite the dizziness, worried he overstepped. San didn't say anything, just stood up and went around to his bag, putting on his shirt. Wooyoung watched quietly for a few minutes as San started to warm up, not saying anything. The nerves and worry were eating him up inside.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. San turned to look at him and raised an eyebrow.
"What did you say," he asked.
"I-I'm sorry," Wooyoung stuttered a bit louder.
"For what? Oh, for before. It's fine Wooyoung, you didn't do anything wrong," San said. He could tell Wooyoung still seemed nervous so he moved over to the other side of the bench.
"Don't stress Youngie. You're curious, you ask questions and it's only human nature. I'm just a little private so I don't always like opening up," San explained.
"I'm still sorry," Wooyoung said quietly.
"You are ok Wooyoung, I promise. Why don't you just lay down and get some rest," San said. Wooyoung was unsure but couldn't deny that he was a little tired so he laid down. He didn't fall asleep but was drifting slightly when San shook his shoulder softly. He peeled his eyes open to see San bent down in front of him. I have to head out in a few minutes so I wanna know if you want to sleep a bit more or if you want to come and watch," San asked.
"Oh I'll definitely watch. I love watching you fight," Wooyoung said, sitting up quickly.
"How're you feeling? You dizzy at all," San asked.
"I'm alright," Wooyoung said with a nod.
"Ok, well why don't you come and watch from the coaching box," San asked.
"Wait, there's a coaching box," Wooyoung asked in surprise.
"Yeah, some fighters have coaches or mentors and some just bring friends," San said with a nod.
"That's cool, I never realised that," Wooyoung said, surprised at this new information.
"Oh, do many people watch from your box," Wooyoung asked. San hesitated, glancing down slightly.
"No one. Hongjoong has a few times but he usually is bartending," he said.
"No one else," Wooyoung asked, his heart beating quickly.
"No, no one else," San said with a nod. Wooyoung's heart fluttered and he nodded quickly.
"Ok, yeah I wanna watch from there," Wooyoung said with a nod.
"Ok, cool," San said, nodding slowly and glancing up briefly.
"Yeah, nice," Wooyoung said unsure what to do now.
"Let's go then," San said, standing up and helping Wooyoung up as well. San showed him down the hall and to another door leading to another hall. The end of that lead to stairs that then went right to the ring.
"Ok so the box is just there to the right. When they announce me, just walk out with me and go to the box," San said.
"I'm kinda nervous," Wooyoung said, making San chuckle.
"Don't be. You don't have to do anything, just walk to the box, sit there and look pretty, shouldn't be too hard," San said softly, delicately tucking a strand of hair behind Wooyoung's ear.
"Ok," Wooyoung said with a nod, letting out a breath.
"Introducing the beast in the ring, the fan favourite for the night, it's Lynx." San gently guided Wooyoung with a hand on the small of his back, nudging him towards the box where he needed to go. Wooyoung went through the opening quickly, sitting down on one of the five seats there. He watched San do his pre-fight routine but this time when he started to stretch, he stepped up to the box, facing Wooyoung.
"Make sure you stretch well. I don't want you getting hurt," Wooyoung said, making San smile softly.
"I'll be fine," he replied.
"Make sure you win," Wooyoung said.
"I will," San promised.
"Ladies and Gentleman, one more minute until the fight will be underway."
"I'll see you on the other side," San said before leaving the fence and making his way to the middle of the ring, swinging his arms to stretch.
Wooyoung sat up straighter in his seat as the bell rang to signal the start of the fight. He didn't even know who the other fighter was as he didn't hear their name announced and it wasn't said to him before that. Whoever it was, they were fast. For the first time in all the fights Wooyoung has watched, the other fighter managed to land the first punch on San. It landed on the side of his torso but San barely flinched, countering it with a punch of his own that landed on the other guys stomach. The two of them continued going back and forth with blows, though it was clear that San was managing to land more hits and more effective ones. He continued watching eagerly but the loud cheers and bright lights were starting to get to him and he winced, dropping his head into his hands, groaning at the pain.
His head was down for about 10 seconds before he heard gasps. He looked back up, his stomach dropping when he saw that San was pinned down on his stomach, receiving punch after punch into his back. Their eyes locked, San's wide with what seemed to be panic, most likely due to the situation he had landed in.
"Come on, you can do this! Fight back," Wooyoung yelled quickly, hoping San could hear over the sounds of the crowd. San's eyes narrowed, a dark and determined look crossing his face. He somehow managed to push himself up and spin around, smashing his fist into the others face. The situations switched, the other fighter getting their back pinned to the ground while San straddled him, punching him repeatedly. After about 6 punches San's fist stopped mid-air and the guy remained unmoving. San waited another few seconds before standing up, making the crowd cheer loudly. Wooyoung was worried, watching despite the pain in his head, seeing San's hand go behind to rest on his lower back. The announcer went into the ring, raising San's hand.
"Our winner, Lynx." San bowed, grimacing slightly before turning to leave the ring. Wooyoung got up and left the box, meeting San who quickly grabbed his arm and tugged him forwards. Their pace back to the room was quite quick and Wooyoung was worried. They went inside and San immediately closed the door.
"Shit, fuck," San groaned, holding his back an bending down slightly.
"Ar-."
"Are you ok? You were curled over and holding your head," San said, interrupting Wooyoung as he stood up straight. Wooyoung blinked in confusion, tilting his head slightly.
"What," he asked. He wasn't the one that had 10 punches full pelt into his back.
"I saw you during the fight curl over in pain," San said.
"Well, yeah but you got punched in the back, I just want to know if you're ok," Wooyoung said with a frown.
"Yeah I'm fine, are you," San asked, not convincing Wooyoung as he wasn't able to hide his wince of pain.
"You're hurt Sannie," Wooyoung said worriedly.
"I'll be ok, I just need to know if you're ok," San replied.
"I'm fine, just getting a headache," Wooyoung said quietly. San stepped forwards and gently placed his hands on the side of Wooyoung's head, delicately massaging two fingers in circles on his head. Wooyoung's eyes slipped closed at the soothing motions, relaxing as the pain seeped away. San smiled softly, cupping Wooyoung's head to hold it up as he leant into his hand.
"You really shouldn't drink that much," San said softly.
"I'm ok, really. It's just hurting my head a bit. Early hangover probably," Wooyoung said with a sigh.
"Ok, why don't you lay down while I get ready so you can get some extra rest," San said. Wooyoung sighed but nodded, moving over to the other side and begun getting ready. It was quiet for less than a minute before Wooyoung heard a soft whimper. He sat up further and looked over to see San on his knees, leaning forwards onto one hand while holding his back with the other as his head hung low. It was clear to Wooyoung that he was in pain. He got up and walked over, kneeling beside San and gently placing his hand on San's lower back. San jolted at the touch and looked over at Wooyoung with a sigh.
"I'm alright, my back is just seizing up," San said.
"That's not good. Can I help in any way," Wooyoung asked. San sighed and shook his head.
"I'll be fine, don't stress. This just comes with the field unfortunately," San said. Wooyoung wasn't happy with that, he wanted to help.
"Why don't I just rub some heat cream on your back, that should help," he said. Heat cream is a very effective way to help ease muscle pain and something all fighters should have considering they will have constant muscle pain. San groaned at Wooyoung's words however and dropped his head.
"Woo I know you're trying to help but that's just making me feel like shit. That cream is so expensive, do you honestly think I can afford that when I can barely afford my rent," San said in frustration. Wooyoung flinched at that, hesitating to speak up again and make San more angry.
"Sorry, that was uncalled for and rude, it's not your fault," San said with another groan. He straightened up and reached out, pulling Wooyoung into a gentle hug, ignoring his pain. Wooyoung leant into it for a few seconds before pulling away, knowing the angle probably hurt San's back.
"Let me at least give your back a massage to try and release some tension," Wooyoung said.
"Are you sure," San asked quietly. Wooyoung nodded quickly, pulling off his hoodie and scrunching it up in a ball before placing it down on the ground.
"Take off your shirt and lay on your stomach," he instructed. San nodded and did as asked, resting his head on the hoodie. Wooyoung tried to warm up his hands a bit before placing them down on San's back. San jolted slightly at the touch but relaxed very quickly. Wooyoung begun to gently massage San's back, feeling the tightness in the muscles. He made sure to pay attention to San and how he was reacting, adjusting his strength when needed. He was doing it for a few minutes before he noticed how much San was relaxing, his muscles untensed and his head lolling to the side. Wooyoung stopped what he was doing but San didn't react, face still and lax. He looked so peaceful and Wooyoung didn't want to wake him up so instead, he let him rest for a bit. He shuffled down beside San and gently grabbed his hand, beginning to slowly unwrap the tape, making sure not to tug too quickly. He was almost to the end when the door to the room swung open, making him freeze. His focus snapped to the doorway, his eyes widening however Hongjoong stepped inside so he relaxed. Hongjoong's eyes widened when he saw San and stepped inside, quickly closing the door.
"What happened? Is he ok," he asked worriedly.
"He's fine, don't worry. I just helped him with his back pain," Wooyoung said.
"Uh, how," Hongjoong asked slowly.
"I gave him a massage and he fell asleep," Wooyoung clarified.
"Lynx fell asleep with you here," Hongjoong asked. For some reason Hongjoong still calls San Lynx around him but he didn't question it.
"Yeah. I don't want to wake him just yet so I'm undoing his hand wraps," Wooyoung explained.
"Ok, but he's ok," Hongjoong asked.
"Yeah and I'm keeping an eye on him," Wooyoung promised.
"Ok, good. Come find me if anything happens," Hongjoong said and Wooyoung nodded. Hongjoong left and Wooyoung continued on until he finished removing the wrap. Once he was done, he finally decided to wake San up again. He gently ran his fingers through San's sweaty hair, slicking it back slightly. San stirred at that, his eyes slipping open slowly. He was a bit disorientated and confused but his eyes landed on Wooyoung who was watching him with a soft smile.
"Wakey, wakey sleepyhead," Wooyoung said. San sat up quickly shaking his head to orientate himself a bit. He had no idea he had fallen asleep, usually finding it hard to sleep when anyone else but Hongjoong is nearby as he doesn't feel safe.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep," San said quietly.
"You're fine. It was only about 10 to 15 minutes," Wooyoung said.
"Still, thank you. My back's feeling a lot better. I just need to get ready and we'll go," San said. He lifted up his hands before freezing, noticing the wraps gone and glancing over to see them piled up next to Wooyoung.
"I took them off already for you," Wooyoung explained.
"Ok, thanks," San said in surprise. They were interrupted by a sudden banging on the door, making San's face drop as he went pale. He jumped up, grabbing Wooyoung and yanking him around the corner before shoving him down.
"Please stay quiet, I'm begging you," he rushed out. Before Wooyoung could reply, San was up and over to the door, opening it and allowing a man to come inside. Wooyoung wasn't sure what was going but made sure to stay hidden like San asked. There was something in his voice that told him he needed to listen.
"What the fuck was that," the new man said.
"I won? Isn't that the whole point," San snapped.
"You call that winning? That was pathetic. You are supposed to be a beast, not someone who gets pinned down by a weakling," the man said. Wooyoung frowned angrily at the way the man was talking to San. Who the hell does he think he is?
"I won Jay, that's what it comes down to," San said firmly. There was a sudden sound, sounding remarkable close to a slap and Wooyoung quickly peaked back around the corner quickly. San was pressed back against the wall with the man standing straight in front of him. Wooyoung's blood boiled but he was sure there was more to it and he couldn't get involved. He wasn't happy about it but he stayed quiet and remained hidden.
"People bet on you. They bet for perfect fights from you and if you don't perform then they lose money rather than to make it. That stupid little stunt you pulled cost a lot of money. The only reason why I let you get away with no special visitors is because I can get enough money from your fights. Stuff up again and things may change, do you understand me," the man asked.
"I understand," San said with a nod.
"Good. Do better," the man said. He leant forwards and Wooyoung frowned as he placed a kiss to San's cheek. San remained unmoving against the wall as the man stepped back and left the room. The minute the door closed, Wooyoung got up and went closer to San. San left the wall immediately, striding to Wooyoung and throwing his arms around him. Wooyoung wasn't expecting it but he was quick to return the tight hug, allowing San to tuck his head into his neck. They were pressed close together so Wooyoung could feel the way San's heart was racing. Whoever that man was, it was clear he had some sort of hold on San and had him rattled. He was curious and really wanted to ask questions but knew this was something he couldn't push on. He raised his hand and gently ran it through San's hair, feeling the fighter deflate against him. He exhaled shakily before pulling away. Wooyoung noticed how off put San seemed, not missing how he wiped his cheek 3 times almost unconsciously while he was packing up his bag. Wooyoung's mouth moved unconsciously.
"Do you want me to give you a kiss," he asked. San looked over, his eyes narrowed and distrusting. Wooyoung was about to panic but then San's eyes softened and he stepped forwards.
"Please," he whispered. Wooyoung gently placed his hands on the side of San's neck and stepped on his tip-toes, placing a delicate kiss against his cheek. He held it for a few seconds before slowly pulling away. He moved back in front and their eyes met, San's having that familiar spark once again.
"Thank you," he said softly. Wooyoung smiled and gently slipped his thumb against San's cheek, skimming over his dimple.
"Are you ok," he asked in concern. San nodded and grabbed Wooyoung's hand softly, pulling it down.
"I'm ok, I promise. That happens on occasion but I don't want to talk about it," San said.
"I respect that. If you ever want to talk though, I'm here for you," Wooyoung said gently.
"I know," San replied with a nod.
"Come on, let's get you home. You really need some sleep," San said. Wooyoung nodded and after making sure they had all of their things, the two of them left the ring
