Chapter 14
"What in the hell did you think you were trying to do, Sam?" Tim scolds as he walks into the small doctor's office.
"Hello there, Timmy." The old cowboy chuckles as the outlaw's concern.
"Don't hello Timmy me. You know your ass is too old to be up on a f*cking ladder." Tim continues to fuss.
"There was a piece of tin came loose on the roof. I needed to fix it." Sam shrugs.
"It couldn't have waited until we got home?" Tim asks, raising his brows. He also noticed a strange look that Lilly gave her husband.
Lilly smiles to herself at Tim calling their house home.
"Didn't want no critters crawling in through the roof." Sam shrugs again.
"You risk your life because of a raccoon?" Adam asks.
"Who do you think did all the repairs before you boys came along?" Sam argues.
"From the looks of the place? No one." Tim sasses.
"So, how bad was it broken? And how long is he going to have to wear that?" Chance asks as he points to the splint the doctor had put on Sam's leg.
"Oh, he'll be laid up for at least six weeks." The old doctor answers, laying his glasses aside. "As long as he takes it easy."
"We'll make sure he does." Lilly says as she gives Sam a 'no arguing' look.
"And the young man is right, Sam. You need to keep your ass off the ladders from now on." The old doc says with a nod.
"When are you boys coming home?" Lilly asks as she hands Sam the crutches the doctor had provided.
"Well, considering Adam and I just blew our place to stay, I guess we'll be coming home today." Tim sighs.
"What do you mean by, blew your place to stay?" Sam asks raising up and reaching for the crutches.
"Seems as though not everyone welcomes homosexuals in this town." Adam says. "And that includes the old man that runs the hotel."
"I rented a room and slipped them in through the back alley so they would have a place to stay." Chance explains.
"When we got the news about you being brought in, the old b*stard seen us leaving." Tim says with a shrug of his shoulders.
"I could really use the help with Sam." Lilly says with pleading eyes.
Tim turns his eyes meeting the blue eyes of his boyfriend. He knew that Adam had his heart set on going to the theater.
"We can always come back when he's back on his feet." Adam says with a soft smile. "The theater isn't going anywhere." He seemed to have read his lover's thoughts.
"Are you sure?" Tim asks softly.
"Positive. Lilly needs our help." Adam smiles.
"Chance, I guess Adam and I will be heading back with them. You guys stay but stay out of trouble." Tim says.
"I really hate this, Tim. You boys were supposed to come here and let off a little steam." Sam says as Tim and Adam help him into the wagon.
"Our reason for coming was to separate for a while. I haven't seen Austin and Nate since we've arrived and only chatted with Rob once or twice. I had a good bottle of whiskey, Adam won a lot of money playing a few poker hands and the best part of all was that Adam and I had sex in a real bed without the guys hearing us." Tim says with a chuckle.
"And with the guys staying here doing their own thing, it will still give Tim and me some alone time." Adam adds.
"We were planning on going to the theater tomorrow but we can always come back another time." Tim says as he mounts Ringo.
"Oh, you'll love it. We used to go all the time." Lilly smiles as she takes the reigns of the wagon. "It was so much fun."
"Well, why don't we make it a double date then." Tim says with a smile as he looks down at the older couple from his horse.
"That sounds fun." Adam nods in agreement.
"It does sound fun." Sam nods. "We haven't done anything like that in years."
"Then it's a date." Tim smiles. "Let's go home."
"Hey, Timmy! Where y'all going?" Austin asks, walking out of the saloon with his arm wrapped around a beautiful dark haired barmaid, as they passed by.
"You guys go on. I'll catch up." Tim tells Adam as he stops to talk to Austin.
"Don't be too long." Adam says as he leans over and gives his lover a quick kiss.
"I won't." Tim smiles before guiding his horse over to where Austin was standing.
"Something wrong? Why are we leaving?" Austin asks.
"We aren't leaving. Just Adam and I are leaving. Sam broke his leg and Lilly needs help." Tim replies.
"What? Is he gonna be alright?" Austin asks with a concerned look.
"Well, you know how stubborn the old goat can be. So that's why we're going back to help Lilly with him. I told Chance that y'all can stay for a couple more days. But stay out of trouble. Understand?" Tim asks, giving the younger cowboy a warning look.
"You got it. I saw Rob earlier and he told me about you two getting ran out of the hotel. That sucks." Austin says.
"Yeah, that's another reason why we're heading back. We don't have a place to stay and we're both exhausted." Tim says with a sigh.
"So it hasn't been such a great getaway for y'all." Austin says.
"Well, it wasn't a total loss. Chance did rent a room and slipped us in so we could spend some quality time together." Tim replies with a smirk.
"So you did get to f*ck without getting hay in the crack of your ass." Austin chuckles.
"Yep." Tim smiles as he turns Ringo to follow the wagon. "See you in a couple of days and stay out of trouble." He adds before riding away.

Adam glances over his shoulder as he hears a rider quickly approaching them. Seeing his outlaw made him smile.
"How you doing old timer?" Tim asks with a smile as he rides up on the other side of the wagon.
"This road is not the smoothest that I've ever been on." Sam groans as he rubs his aching leg.
"We'll be home soon." Lilly replies.
As they ride up in front of the cabin, Tim glances up at the roof to see how bad it actually was. Nothing was out of place. No loose tin, not even a ladder. Something just didn't add up.
"Baby? You okay?" Adam asks as he sees the puzzled look on Tim's face.
"Uh... yeah." Tim nods before dismounting.
They help the old cowboy out of the wagon and inside the house where Lilly was turning down the covers of the bed.
"Awww, this is more like it." Sam smiles as he lays down.
"You just relax. Adam and I will go put the horses away in the corral." Tim says, taking the blonde by the hand.
"Are you going to tell me what's bothering you?" Adam asks quietly as they walk out into the yard.
"Look." Tim says as he points to the roof. "Tell me what you see."
"A roof." Adam chuckles before his expression becomes serious. "Wait a minute. Where's the loose piece of tin?"
"Exactly." Tim nods.
"Well, he could have gotten it fixed before he fell." Adam shrugs.
"True. But then where is the ladder? I wouldn't think that Lilly would take the time to put it up with her husband having a broken leg." Tim says as they start to unfasten the horses hooked to the wagon.
"True." Adam nods. "We're not getting the full story."
"Plus, when Sam mentioned a piece of loose tin that needed fixing, I notice Lilly gave him a strange look. Kinda like...." Tim starts to say before Adam finishes his statement.
"Kinda like it was all new news to her?" Adam asks.
"Exactly." Tim nods. "Just what the hell is going on here?"
