Chapter 12
"Good evening, sir. How may I help you?" The old man behind the counter smiles.
"I'd like a room if you have any available." Chance states as he sets Tim and Adam's bag on the floor next to his feet.
"Yes, sir. We have plenty of rooms." The man says as he reaches for the registry.
"Great. I just heard two men over at the saloon complaining that they couldn't get a room. I was afraid I had come too late." Chance says as he signs in.
"Oh, yeah, that must have been those two freaks that came in wanting to perform sinful acts in my hotel." The man says as he hands Chance a key to his room.
"Sinful acts?" Chance asks with a raised brow as he lays the money on the counter.
"Let me tell you, son. This town was once a God-fearing town. Then they started allowing those homosexuals to walk around freely. Well, not in MY hotel. Those sinful creatures are not allowed." The old man smiles proudly. "Third floor, room seven."
"Oh, okay." Chance fakes a smile as he reaches down for his bag. He found himself biting his tongue not to give the old man a piece of his mind. But Tim and Adam needed a place to stay so he thought better of it. "Thank you."
"Have a nice stay." The man calls out as Chance heads for the stairs.
"Sure thing, asshole." Chance mumbles as he reaches the hallway where his room was located. As he walks to his room, he silently prayed that he would not have anyone in the rooms around him. That's all he needed was for his neighbors complaining to the old man and having him come up and catch Tim and Adam in the room f*cking.
A door opens to one of the rooms he had passed, glancing over his shoulder, he sees Rob coming out.
"Hi, Rob." Chance says as he starts to put the key into the keyhole.
"Hey, Buddy. Listen, have you seen Tim and Adam? I'm worried about them. That jerk downstairs just literally kicked them out of here. Wouldn't even rent them a room." Rob says, shaking his head.
"Come inside." Chance says as he walks into his room. Rob follows him in and Chance closes the door behind them. "I'm not actually renting this room for myself." He replies as he walks over to open the window.
"Okay?" Rob answers in question form.
"I'm renting it for them." Chance says as he walks out onto the small balcony and points down to the street below.
Rob walks over and looks over the railing. He smiles as he sees the couple waiting patiently in the alley.
Tim and Adam had left Ringo and Sundance at the stables to be fed and watered. They didn't know which room they would be having so they were having to watch the entire side of the building.
"There." Adam says, pointing as he sees their two friends walk out on the balcony.
"D*mn, that's high up." Tim says. He had never been one to like heights.
"Well, we can always go back to the barn." Adam says, looking around at his lover.
"No, absolutely not. I can do this." Tim says with an unsure nod. "I think". Adding the last part in a whisper.
"Come on." Adam giggles as he grabs Tim's hand and leads him over to the ladder. "Just don't look down."
"Thanks." Tim mumbles as he reaches up for the ladder.
Adam knew that his boyfriend was deathly afraid of heights so he was going to follow the brunette up the ladder so he could whisper words of encouragement.
"You got this, Sweetie." Adam says in a soft voice as they climb.
"Oh, sh*t. Oh, sh*t. Oh, sh*t." Tim whispers as he climbs higher.
"You're doing great." Adam says. "Just don't look down and you'll be fine."
"Are we almost there?" Tim asks. He was afraid to look up and he was afraid to look down.
"Almost." Adam answers.
"Come on, Tim. I got ya." Chance says as he reaches down to take the outlaw's hand.
"You nuts? I'm not turning loose of this ladder." Tim says as he tightens his grip.
"Honey, you climb the ladder all the time at the barn." Adam says as he climbs up behind his paralyzed lover.
"It's not three stories off the f*cking ground either." Tim replies.
"We're not going to let you fall." Chance says as he and Rob reach over the railing and grabs him by the wrists. "But you're going to have to turn loose."
"If I fall to my death, I swear on everything that's holy, I will come back and haunt every single one of you till the day you take your last breath." Tim growls as he looks up the meet his friend's eyes.
"That's not ever going to happen." Rob chuckles as he and Chance pull the outlaw over the railing.
Adam quickly climbs over and pulls his lover into his arms. "I knew you could do it."
"Not a word of this to the other guys. Got it?" Tim says as he straightens his cowboy hat and heads inside. "I got a reputation to uphold."
The other three chuckles and shakes their heads as they follow their fearless leader inside the room.
"Wow. This is nice." Adam says as he looks around the room.
"The best part is that we have the whole floor to ourselves." Rob smiles. "I told the guy that I was a writer and that I needed a room with peace and quiet."
"Apparently, he didn't think I would be a problem for you." Chance chuckles. "Boy, was he wrong."
"If you don't want to leave the same way you came in then the best time to check out is about ten o'clock in the morning. The old man always leaves for a couple of hours to tend to his farm. Some other guy watches the registry until he gets back." Rob says.
"Might I suggest that you not leave together? That might raise suspicions." Chance adds. "I'm sure the guy that fills in follows the old man's rules."
"Adam and I hadn't eaten all day. Is there any way that you guys could slip some food up here?" Tim asks as he sits down on the bed.
"Sure, I'll take care of that right now." Rob says as he heads for the door.
"Wait." Tim says as he starts to dig into his pocket for some money.
"Don't worry about, Timmy. I got it." Rob smiles as he walks out of the room.
"You know, guys, there's a theater in town. Jenika and I are thinking about going tomorrow if y'all would like to come." Chance says as he heads toward the door. He had some unfinished business to take care of.
"A theater?" Adam asks with a smile. "That sounds exciting. I've never been to one."
"Jenika says it's pretty cool. They put on acts. There's singing. Magic acts. All sorts of things." Chance adds.
"Will we be allowed in? Or will we have to go separately and pretend not to know each other?" Tim asks with a raised brow.
"As much as I would love to go, if that's the case, you can forget it." Adam says.
"Guys, please don't let that old fart ruin your fun." Chance says.
"Well, we are hiding out in a hotel that we're not supposed to be in. We can't go to the restaurant and eat like a normal couple." Tim states with a shrug. "It's been a blast so far." He adds with a slight roll of his eyes.
"Chance?" Jenika calls out as she lightly taps on the door.
Chance walks over and opens the door.
She walks in carrying a plate of food followed by Rob carrying another plate.
"Looked like he needed some help." Jenika smiles as she handed the plate to the outlaw.
Rob hands the plate he was carrying to Adam and the couple quickly digs in.
"Jenika? I was asking Tim and Adam to come with us tomorrow to the theater. They want to come but they feel that they may not be welcome as a couple." Chance says.
"That won't be a problem." Jenika replies, shaking her head.
"Yeah? That's what you said about this hotel too." Tim says with a mouth full of food.
"It won't be a problem, Timothy." Jenika says. "I know the owner. He's gay."
