Picnic In The Barn
I walk through the field with my watch not far behind, could the man not leave my side for even one moment? Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ. I quicken my pace hoping to put some matter of space between us. The handsome McTavish works the spotless white mare with ease and care. I silently watch as he brings her closer and cams her down. I let out a breathe I didn't know I was holding a relax myself. My arm brushes against a cup causing it to crash to the ground frightening the young mare. She rears up almost landing on Jamie then takes off in the other direction trying to escape the horror.
Jamie comes up swearing then looks at my sorrowful face, "It is okay Sassenach she is just a young woman full of spunk and energy." I smile and he continues, "Which is always good! Now what can I do for you?" He eyes me up and down and my skin tingles. "It is more of what I could do for you. I brought some bandages and some lunch." He flashes a toothy grin, "Aye! Sounds good!" We walk towards and empty stall and he lays down some old feed sacks for us to sit on.
He began to quickly chow down on his meal, "You seem half starved, you would have probably started eating grass soon if I hadn't made it over her today." HIs boyish grins shines out once again. "I have." I am taken back by his words. "Have what? Eaten grass?" I question. He nods his head, this man is just full of surprises. "In the winter when It was cold and no food to go around. Not the best meal I have had but it kept me alive." He replies. I can't help but feel bad for him and my smile fades. "Don't worry Sassenach the grass I have had holds no argument against your lunch." HIs joking ways make me laugh, There is a comfortable silence between us and then I have to break it with my stupid question.
"Your name is not really Mr. McTavish is it?" He shakes his head, "Nah but as you now know my story you can tell why I must use it. There are many English that would pay a pretty coin to know my whereabouts." I sigh and once again begin to feel bad for him. "Dinna fash yourself over me, I will be okay." He grins and rises to his feet then helps me up. "In time I hope you can learn to trust me." I say. A smile tugs on the edges of his lips, "I hope we get to know each other better Sassenach." He whispers while holding my arm and pulling me closer.
A lump forms in my throat and I don't reply in fear of sounding like a toad. A sudden presence breaks us apart. It is the stable owner, "Quit sitting on your fat arse and get this colt broke." He bellows out. Jamie smiles and leaves my side. I begin my way back to the castle with my shadow not far behind. "You can stop following me." I spit out, he only smiles and keeps up. But knowing he is much larger in the stomach area than myself I take off at a run and leave him eating the dust from my tracks.
