my favourite friendships in my books

HELLO !!!
so i was thinking about my books the other day and all the friendships that each of my ocs have and honestly trying to pick my favourite and i think i narrowed it down so let's get into it !!

Paper Rings :
John B and Athena for sure !! I love these two so much it's actually unhealthy, like they are the sibling that each other deserved. Pure brother/sister vibes. Athena would be jumping for joy and simultaneously pulling her hair out on the day of JB and Sarah's wedding when he's officially her brother in law.

My fav scenes are literally any of them tbh, I just adore them !!

I quite enjoy any of their bickering scenes like this one from season 2

The boy then pushed her. Athena stumbled, grabbing onto John B's hand and bringing onto the grass with her. She groaned before letting out a laugh. John B turned to her, grabbing some grass and throwing it at her.

"First you insult the twinkie and now the chateau, I'm starting to think you don't deserve to be a pogue." John B spoke with narrowed eyes.

Athena sat up, throwing grass back at him. "Maybe I don't want to be."

"Liar."

"Shut up."

Her and Sage are cure, I can't wait to delve more into their kook years and the years following Sage's disappearance.

My og friendship Pope and Athena, my babies, she just gets him and doesn't force him to smoke or do anything he doesn't want to. She also understands his love for school and his passion for the future, but I just don't think Pope has that same closeness to Athena in the later seasons that her an JB tbh.

Complicated Trilogy :
NINI AND DYLAN MY LOVES YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS I MISS YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH.

Um, yeah I just adore them so much, they are my original besties, like one of the first friendships I have ever written and they just have a special place in my heart to be honest.

They have so many scenes I love as well but I think these are my favs :

"I needed one more group hug." Nini explained. "But you weren't there so it wasn't the same."

The two looked at each other before Nini broke the silence. "I heard your voicemail."

"I told you to forget it." Dylan told her.

"I'm not gonna forget something like that." Nini looked towards the girl. "You know just because I'm in Denver doesn't mean I'll ever forget you, right?"

"I hope so."

"No, Dylan Valdez, you are my best friend in the entire world and we have gone through so much I'm never going to forget you, no matter where I am in the world and I knew that from the day we met, okay?" Nini reassured her firmly. "If everyone else leaves you, you will always have me. Always."

Dylan let out a wet laugh, "I love you."

"I love you too."

"You're leaving aren't you?" Dylan asked.

"How did you know?"

"You're my best friend Nini, I know you." Dylan stated. Dylan looked between Nini's eyes, tears prickling at her own at the thought of not sharing senior year with her best friend. She wrapped her arms around the girl, hugging her tightly. "I'm gonna miss you so much."

"I'm gonna miss you too." Nini whispered.

Dylan pulled back slightly. "Promise me you won't forget me."

"Never." Nini shook her head. "I will write you letters and send you postcards every day."

"Good." Dylan nodded. "You're gonna do so well. I'm so proud of you."

"You are gonna succeed here. I'm proud of you too." Nini commented. "And just know that wherever I am, I am still one phone call away. You can call me anytime no matter what, you are never a burden and I will never be too busy for you. I will be there, no matter what."

"And wherever you end up, whatever happens, you will always find a home with me... and the wildcats but especially me." Dylan laughed softly, Nini laughing too. "You can always just come home to me and just smile. I love you Neens."

"I love you too Dyl." Nini smiled softly.

Dylan hugged the girl again before pulling away for the final time. She stepped towards the door, turning to face Nini and holding her hands up in a heart before mouthing 'I love you'. And just like all the times before Nini reciprocated the action.

"Goodbye Dyl." Nini stated.

"Meet me in the space between?" Dylan smiled.

"I'll see you in the space between." Nini nodded.

Honourable mentions :

I adore Dylan and Ashlyn, I think they are very cute and Ashlyn is co-caption (alongside Nini) of the EJ and Dylan ship tbh. The two are just so cute, I love them.

I also quite like Dylan and Gina's friendship but I feel like it wasn't well written (on my part) tbh so it doesn't make me sad like the others.

Her and Big Red are underrated. The Homecoming chapter and when he visits in season 3 are two of my favourite chapters in the entire trilogy, I just love those two!

Dylan and Ricky are cute too, like their scenes in season 2 when they sing in Chicago are adorable, and he talks her out of her panic attack in season 3, like major sibling vibes from the two tbh. And when they fight with pool noodles during the 'yes, and' chapters in season 2 as well. Love them!

Summer Love :
Her and Shayla are my babies, those two are literally the best thing ever, I am so mad that Shayla was not in season 2 of the show so I had to write her in myself tbh.

She heard footsteps approach her but ignored them until the person spoke, and Florence recognised the voice immediately.

"Now why is a pretty girl like you crying? A man can surely not be worth it."

Florence looked up to see Shayla, the girl holding a sympathetic smile. Shayla held her hand out for Florence to grab a hold off, which she did with a smile, hugging her best friend tightly.

"What are you doing here?" Florence wondered.

"I had a feeling." Shayla shrugged. "Plus it's your senior prom, I wasn't about to miss my best girl getting all dressed up. But traffic was a bitch."

"I adore you." Florence smiled.

"And I you." Shayla responded. "And you look as ethereal as I thought you would."

Florence hugged her once more. "I have so much to tell you."

"My room is this way."

Shayla answered it with a sad smile. "Hi."

"Hey baby." Florence hugged her friend tightly.

The two walked inside the house, sitting on the sofa in the living room. Florence grabbed her bag, pulling out two tubs of ice cream.

"I stopped at the shop." Florence smiled. Shayla thanked her, taking the ice cream and grabbing them some spoons. "Are you okay?"

"I just... I feel so stupid, Flo." Shayla pouted, trying not to cry. "I really like him and he—he—"

"I know, honey, I know." Florence hugged the girl tightly. "It's gonna be okay, if he doesn't come grovelling then he's an idiot. A complete and utter idiot."

"I love you, Flo." Shayla smiled weakly, hugging her back.

"I love you too." Florence replied.

They stayed like that for a while, just cuddling and eating ice cream before they decided that they needed some fresh air.

I just love them and all the crumbs of their friendship I leave throughout the book tbh. Besties 4 life, I love them.

Honourable mentions :

Obviously Steven. She's his best friend ever, and I do love them to be honest, like them in the first season are so so cute and then he's there for her in the second season 2, I just, adore them.

Paris :

Marnie and Max I adore. They just make my heart burst with joy, I love them so much, no one can ever say anything bad about them because they're literally siblings and they love each other so much. I actually cannot articulate how much I love them. She literally puts him in every single one of her photo dumps, no matter if it breaks the aesthetic he's there, that's how much she loves him, she had to show her love by posting about him everywhere.

"Marns... what's wrong?" Max asked softly. Marnie finally moved, turning her head to look over at him. "Marns?"

"Lay with me." Marnie told him, moving across the bed slightly so her best friend could lay down next to her.

Max nodded, laying down on the bed and looking over at her, "What happened?"

Marnie glanced at him, "How do you do it?"

"Do what?"

"Deal with the hate." Marnie clarified. "They're so... mean."

"You can't listen to them, Marnie." Max stated.

"It's kinda hard when they're everything, Max." Marnie cried. "It's everywhere. I—I can't."

"Marnie these people don't know you." Max sat up to make his point, grabbing her hand and pulling her up with him. "You are amazing, you are beautiful, these people hate others for their own joy, and you shouldn't allow them to get you down because that's what they want, okay? You have people who love you for you, fans who love you, family who love you, we love you – Lily, Alex, Logan, Charles, P – I love you."

Marnie nodded, looking down for a second, before speaking her, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why do they hate me? Am I—Am I that horrible?"

"No." Max disagreed without hesitation. "No, they hate you because they are jealous of you, because haters are just that, haters, they do it with no rhyme or reason. They do it because they love to drag other people down. And you, Marnina Santos are not horrible, not even close. You are amazing, the best person I know."

Marnie's bottom lip trembled before she lunged forward and wrapped her arms around Max. Her best friend hugged her back as tightly as possible, allowing her to let out all of her build up emotions. They stayed in each other's embraces for a little while before Marnie pulled away, wiping her nose and the tears from her face.

She stood up from the bed, moving over to take the vinyl of her record player and placing it back in it's sleeve and back onto its place on the wall. Marnie turned back to look at Max, who was watching her closely.

"If you ever feel like this again, you call me, okay? No matter the time or place, I will be there." Max told her, his tone firm. "You scared us all when you wouldn't answer our calls or texts."

"I just wanted to curl up in a ball and stay there forever." Marnie shrugged.

"Let me curl up in a ball with you." Max responded. "It's what brothers are for."

Honourable mentions :

The golden trio – Marnie, Alex Albon and Lily – I just love them. They're so chaotic and awesome and they just love each other unconditionally. It's giving parents and child tbh. Like any of their conversations make me giggle, all of their texts and whenever they hang out. I mean Alex literally sits at a different table when Lily and Marnie go out for coffee and lets them catch up before he joins them, that's LOVE!

Her and Charles are adorable, major older brother, younger sister vibes. Lestappen are Marnie's parents tbh and I wouldn't have it any other way. I just adore them so so so much.

Wildest Dreams :
Avery had friendships with all of them I couldn't possibly pick a best one. The obvious option is clearly Robin because they're besties and I love them. Which is true, I do love them but tbh I think my favourite Avery friendship is her and Nancy. I mean they're both just baby girls who love to shoot guns and I adore them.

"You okay Nance?" Avery asked the girl.

"Yeah I'm fine." Nancy spoke quickly, making Avery raise her eyebrows at the girl. "Okay well this is a bit weird, and I'm kind of, like, I'm a bit, you know."

"Nervous?" Avery finished for her.

"Yeah." Nancy nodded. "I've just not had very many friends my entire life, and I haven't had any girlfriends since Barb so I just, I don't want history repeating itself."

"Nancy, you aren't to blame for Barb's death you know that, right? And you aren't some kind of death magnet, okay, you getting close to someone or becoming friends with people won't kill them." Avery told her, Nancy's bottom lip trembling slightly.

"I just, I feel like I could've done something to save Barb and that if I get close to anyone else, the same thing's gonna happen." Nancy sniffled.

Avery moved to hug Nancy, the girls quickly wrapping their arms around each other, "Nance, there wasn't anything you could've done to save Barb, and nothing is gonna happen if you become friends with other people."

"You think?"

"I know." Avery pulled away, looking Nancy in the eyes.

"Does this mean, we're like friends, officially now?" Nancy asked, a scared look in her eyes.

"Well, let's just say I don't come to people who I am not friends with houses at night and give them pep talks." Avery laughed slightly, Nancy doing the same. "We're friends Nance, and when nothing happens to me, I can say I told you so."

Nancy laughed, "I can't wait."

Avery suddenly perked up, "I have an idea." Nancy looked at her slightly scared but agreed nonetheless.

Avery could tell that Nancy though helping her dye her hair blonde the night before school started again was not on the list of things she would do as a friend. The two girls had walked to the nearest convenience store before they sat in Nancy's bedroom.

Avery sat on a stool in front of Nancy, both of them making eye contact in the mirror. She was wearing an old t-shirt that Nancy had allowed her to borrow. Her brown hair had been separated into bits. The bottom bits being slathered in bleach.

"You really roped me into this." Nancy commented, picking more hair dye onto her gloved hands. "How did you manage that?"

Avery shrugged. "Because I'm your new bestie, and we both know that after last year we need some change."

"Uh-huh. I think you just have this way of always getting what you want from people." Nancy ran her fingers carefully towards where the part was made in her hair. Avery laughed as Nancy untied the top knot before putting dye on the other bits.

"Do you think this is good?" Avery asked as the last of the due on her hair was applied.

"We did a lot so it should be good for now." Nancy smiled. "And you are gonna look fantastic."

"Okay." Avery sighed. "So I just leave it in for thirty minutes. What do you wanna do?"

Nancy shrugged.

"I know." Avery spun to face the brunette. "I wanna hear all about your love triangle."

Honourable mentions :

James and Robin, underrated besties and their friendship will be shown more in season 3 and season 4 because I do love them.

James and Steve who are literally James and Sirius reincarnated, they're just so chaotic and constantly hyping each other up. Ride or dies fr.

Avery and any of the kids. She loves those little buggers with her whole heart, she sees them all as her little siblings. Her and Eleven in season one is so precious, Avery is the first person Eleven feels most comfortable with and they canonically send letters to each other between season 3 and 4 when Eleven moves away. Avery and Max are sibling goals, they bicker and they do each other's hair and they protect each other and they talk about boys, I just love them.

Don't Blame Me :
Chad and Madelyn are actually so underrated, that is her brother! They are siblings fr !! They protect each other to the death and love each other so unconditionally.

Honourable Mentions :

Madelyn and Sam are my babies. In Scream VI they are just the cutest and the most badass. They just look after each other and understand each other so deeply, I just... I love them.

Madelyn and Wes, I miss you so much. I adore them, my favourites. They grew up together and were always there together, I mean Wes' little speech in Scream V made me cry

Favourite Crime :

Andrea and Noa are the best – might have some angst in season 2 though – but for now I love them. They tell each other everything, all the time, they protect each other and love each other. I adore them too.

Honourable mentions :

Andrea and Shawn. I mean he literally drives her home when they have practice on the same day and then waits until she's safely inside to leave. He's agreed to be her model for her clothes without arguments and she helps him with his English work. He knows about her and Josh even though they're keeping a secret and plans double dates for them, he dances with her at homecoming so no one suspects a thing about her and Josh. I love them, underrated besties.

TBH all I've learnt from this is I love a male and female side friendship in my books, they're just so perfect to write and I love seeing male and female characters platonically because it's not shown in media enough.
