Chameleon blinked his eyes in the harsh sunlight of the rainforest. He poked his head out of his hammock and peeked around at the already sleeping RainWings and the ones settling down for their sun time. He'd been sleeping for about thirty minutes now. An hour was his limit for some reason, and he had no idea why. He hadn't told any other dragons. They'd think him as strange and weird, and probably mark him as an outcast.

It was weird; he couldn't change the color of his scales, resulting in him being the ugly lime-green color he was at hatching. No dragon had noticed, and he kept it that way. He quietly snuck down and out of his hammock, onto the muddy bottom of his kingdom. He took a mango from a nearby tree and peeled it. He flew onward to a small stream and began to eat his fruit.

His snout deformity didn't make him any more welcome into the tribe, and in fact, two dragonets named Bullfrog and Bromeliad had told him that when they had taken him to meet his fellow tribemates, another dragonet named Dazzling had tried to shoot him with a tranquilizing dart on sight.

So. Not the best welcoming ceremony ever.

Still, the RainWings tried to be polite, however, most were failing. His best friend Exquisite tried to help him fit in the best he could, but she was failing too. Most dragons stayed away from him as if he had some kind of contagious disease. Maybe they thought he did. Maybe they thought that they'd catch his nasty snout problem just by looking at him. Or being near him. Or talking about him. Or thinking about him. Or hearing about him. Or having anything to do with him.

It was getting old.

Chameleon pondered this as he sat down eating his mango while listening to the rushing flow of the stream.

Soon, he thought. Soon everything will be different.
