~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
God you hated the winter. The days were far too short, the nights always felt far too long.
And when you spent all day packing for a camping trip with a couple friends of yours, it didn't leave you with much daylight to do what you all had planned.
By the time you had gotten the tents set up, the sun had already begun to set. Leaving you with little time to hike before the suns warmth faded away leaving you and your friends in the nights constant chill.
The campsite was local, in the city's national park. A big one, which protected all of the wild life that lived within it. No one was to hunt on the grounds or else they'd be arrested immediately.
There always was a park ranger or two roaming around to check up on everyone. They even had a German Shepard with them to help them track any stragglers who may have wandered off the path.
Unlike the movies, there actually was signal as long as you stayed close to the front of the park. The father you went, the weaker the signal would be.
But, as much as you loved the outdoors. You've never really camped out before. The most you've done is have a campfire or two when you were younger.
This park was a sanctuary for wolves after all, and you didn't really feel like getting your arm torn off by a hungry wolf who saw you as a midnight snack.
No thank you.
Your campsite was by a stream of water, you knew you wouldn't get lost as long as you followed the water.. Right?
Well, while you were leading the way during the hike.. Well it was more like a walk in the woods. But regardless, your friends, Felix and his girlfriend Jessica decided to wonder off while you weren't looking.
Those two never were ones to keep their hands to themselves. You rolled your eyes, wondering why they even invited you if they couldn't keep their clothes on for five minutes.
Felix had the map too.
You let out a huff in frustration, wondering how long it had been since they took off. You looked up at the sky once more, feeling a chill go down your spine as the sun had finally set.
You decided to take a seat on a tree stump. One of the rangers would find you wouldn't they? Was this even a path? It was a over grown a bit.
You took in a deep breath, trying not to panic. Panicking never helped anyone. Its best to stay where you were, someone will find you. Eventually...?
Did that tree look familiar? It had a weird claw like marking on it.
Now your mind was beginning to play tricks on you.. Were those eyes? Was that a bat? Were you actually sitting on an ant hill?
You wrapped your arms around yourself in an effort to comfort yourself. They'd be back wouldn't they?
If they'd stop doing nasty shit for once in their lives. You sighed reaching into your fanny pack to get your cell phone.
You winced as you turned it on, its light nearly blinding you from the darkness of the forest.
No miss calls. No texts.
You decided to call them. Both of them. It rang a few times, before immediately going to voice mail.
"Guys? Where the hell are you? I'm a sitting duck out here... I'm pretty sure all of the rangers are in for the night. Felix, get off your ass and find me you dick."
"Jess, stop shoving your tongue down Felix's throat and come get me."
You sighed in frustration and put your phone back into your fanny pack. Before crossing your arms over your chest.
You heard a branch behind you, making you stiffen in place as you quickly looked over your shoulder.
The brush rustled, and before you. You saw two eyes glowing in the darkness. One orange like a sunset, the other blue like the night sky. And.. A flash light?
"You're lucky I found ya. Ya gotta make sure there isn't any axe murders." A masculine voice laughs, light heartedly. Heavy with an Irish accent.
A tall male steps out from the brushes, a head full of grey hair a blue streak through it. His hair messy in a mohawk.
"Oh thank god." You let out a shaky break you didn't even realize you had been holding. "Are you a ranger?" You ask him.
"No, I'm a resident actually. Just doin' my rounds to make sure no ones doin' anythin' I wouldn't do." He holds a hand out for you.
Looking up at his face, the glowing eyes belonged to him. But, the blue one was now covered by his fluffy hair.
His single orange eye light lit up his face, in a dull tangerine glow. Letting you see the faint scar along his eye. And the pale bone of his face.
Oh, he was a skeleton monster. With.. Hair? How? You had no idea. Something was waving behind him, was that a tail?
"I'm Asher Howler by the way. You alright? You're not injured or anythin' are ya?" Asher asks with a head tilt, the fluffy looking wolf ears on his head drooping to the side.
You.. Really wanted to reach up and touch them. But, decided not to as to not freak him out.
"N-no! I'm fine really.. Just a little lost. My friends and I were taking a walk, and they decided to explore each other's bodies rather than the woods." You reply, taking his hand.
He picks you up with ease, helping you back onto your feet.
His ears fold back once he registers your words. Cheek bones flushing a faint orange.
"Oh.. I see. Well, no need to worry. I'll get cha back right where ya need to be." He looks away in embarrassment. "What marker are ya at?"
"62." You reply with a smile.
"Got it. You've just walked off the path actually, its not that far. Here, take the flash light. I can see just fine." He flips his hair so it covers the orange eye, revealing his ocean blue one once again.
You take the flash light and shine it down at the ground as to not trip on anything as he takes the lead with you not far behind him. His boots crunching the fallen leaves with each step.
It was oddly.. Interesting to watch his fluffy tail swish behind him. His height keeping it off the ground.
"So, what brings you out here?" He asks, trying to keep conversation.
"We just wanted a little break from life you know? At least that's what Felix told me... But honestly? I think he and Jess just wanted to bang all over the woods and have me here to make sure no one stole their camping gear." You say.
Asher snickers at your sarcastic tone. "I get cha. I've got some friends back home like that. Although, never been ditched before."
"So, how long have you been living out here?" You ask him, looking back at him. Well, the back of him. He wore a ripped flannel with jeans. And what looked like a tank top maybe?
It was odd, yet.. Really neat to see the back of his skull. He seemed to have some sort of a scalp? The back of his head was shaved while his mohawk grew out to the left side. And of course, between those fuzzy ears of his.
The blue streak seemed to end right behind his ears though.
"Well, I've always been an outdoors monster. My father taught me evetythin' I know. And, we could always use a little vacation every now and then." He replies, ears perking.
"I live with five other idiots back in the city, the cabin here though is all mine. I come out here just to get away from all the drama."
You nod your head at this, relating to him. Listening to him talk was.. Nice. You could get used to that voice and accent of his.
"Five roommates? How do you deal with them all?"
"Ehh. I work most of the time. But only one them is tolerable. I'm a cop you know." He says, taking a right. You quickly speed walk to keep up with him. The familiar gravel path beneath you both.
"Really?"
He hums in reply. "Yeah, I'm the k9 unit."
You snicker at this, then you see a flickering campfire not more then five feet away from you.
"Wow, you were right. I guess I could have gotten back my self couldn't I?" You bashfully rub the back of your neck.
The wolf chuckles. "Nah, its alright. I'm just doin' what's right."
"Thank you though, really." You hand him back the flashlight, and he tucks it back into his belt.
He rests a hand on his hip. "You're welcome. How long are ya stayin' out here for? If ya don't mind me askin'."
You shrug your shoulders. "I don't know, maybe the rest of the weekend?"
He nods his head, his hair bouncing with the sudden movement.
His ears perk when he hears approaching footsteps. Jessica ran up to you both, her hair messy and clothes wrinkled.
"Y/n! There you are we were so worried-"
Asher lifts a brow at her. "Don't worry miss, your friend is just fine. I helped them get back."
Felix stumbled out of the tent, tripping over a log before joining you all. "Y-yeah! We were just about to come and get you-"
"Guys. Seriously? Can't you do that when I'm asleep? If it wasn't for Asher I would have been wolf shit!"
Jessica's cheeks flush. "Sorry y/n."
Felix avoids eye contact.
"Ya know, there's more to a relationship than the bed. Can't you two just.. Relax and enjoy the weekend together? Ya don't need this little darlin' roaming around the woods again." Asher says, frowning with his fangs.
You turn to him in surprise.
"Take it from a demi. There's more to love than lust, I don't care how 'in love' you are. Your friend here could have really gotten hurt." Asher crosses his arms.
Jessica sighs. "I'm sorry y/n.."
"We shouldn't have left you like that.. Heh.." Felix apologizes.
"Its alright guys.. Just don't ditch me again. If you're gonna do that than don't invite me." You say with a huff.
Asher pats you on the shoulder before turning in his heel. "I'll see you crazy kids tomorrow. The lake's gonna be beautiful tomorrow."
"Bye Asher! Thanks for all the help!" You call after him, the wolf sends you a wink before wondering off into the brush.
You were looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. And that poofy hair of his.
End..! I hope you enjoyed!
I'll see you all in Fear's chapter!
(Yes, Asher is a demisexual bean.)
