Horrific duo.

I'm over my burn out, thanks to this new boy. Making him cured my shitty burn out!

Does he count as my 2k special? I don't really know? But regardless, I hope you like him as much as I do!

Also.. What should I do for 2k? I was thinking a Q and A? Idk really.

I'm really thankful for each and everyone of you, I really mean it. I can't even express how much each of you mean to me!

Enjoy!

Working at a carnival was just as fun as you'd think. You got all access to all of the rides, if you wanted to go on them at anytime.

You got a discount on all of the various foods at each food stall as long as you showed your pass.

Springtime was almost here, the weather was warming up which allowed more and more visitors to the carnival.

It paid very well, which surprised you. But, you had to sign tons of papers regarding your safety and liability. And.. The ringleader wasn't exactly the most sane of monsters.

Hugo was his name. The guy was a tall, broad shouldered skeleton built like a refrigerator just as bulky and just as heavy. He ran the whole carnival and the shows with much psychotic glee.

He was like Insane clown posse had a lovechild with a skeleton. Just as crazy too.

You knew better than to ask, when his assistants never came back. Or question when his face and coat were drenched in blood.

"Keep ya mouth shut and don't bat an eye!" Hugo says, with giggly laughter before giving you a wink and disappearing behind his curtain.

You did as you were told, even if it went against your own morals. You accepted your pay, happy to not get kicked out of your apartment.

You had no idea what your boss did behind that curtain, but it was best that you didn't know.

Despite the bloodshed, Hugo was actually pretty good to you. Better than any boss you've ever had. He always checked up on you from time to time.

"Anyone bother ya tonight? Do I need to snap any spinal cords?" He always asks, and nine times out of ten you always tell him no.

But of course, you did have to deal with shitty people now and then. If anyone had really gotten under your skin, you'd give them the golden ticket to the big top.

You ran the cotton candy cart, you made it and passed it out to the greedy kids that always ran up to you, despite their parents annoyance.

You've eaten it yourself, and its just as sugary and sweet as you remember. Pink and fluffy.

You had been counting the stack of money you had made for the day when your lunatic boss made his way over to you with his signature grin. But, he looked like he was smiling more if that was even possible.

"Hey Hugo, what's got you so smiley?" You ask him, leaning on your counter.

The ringmaster chuckled, leaning against your stand with one of his arms. His free hand twirling the hatchet he always carried.

"Ah! A friend of mine is joining the family! He's been out of it for a while! But I think you'll get along!" Hugo cackles, eye twitching when he does so.

"A friend of yours?" You tilt your head. As far as you knew Hugo was a one man show. He only asked the audience to join in on his shows. Of course they never left, but again you didn't ask.

Hugo nods enthusiastically. "Yep!I've known em' since I was a kid in the loony bin! He's not as weird as me! But he'll be a great member of the family! Everyone loves magic, right!?"

"Did you say loony bin? I mean, yeah who doesn't like a good old magic show? What's he do? Pull a rabbit out of a hat?" You ask, resting your head on your hand.

"Oh all sorts of things! And he's a monster so he's got real magic! Not that shitty illusions bullshit that humans do!" Hugo claps his hands. "So, he'll be here sometime tonight! Keep an eye out for him! He's not hard to miss!"

"How so?"

"He's a little bit shorter than me! Look out for a guy that's black white and red all over! Oh and I guess the floating top hat may give him away!"  Hugo sends you a wink. "I've gotta clean up a few things, but if you see him bring him to the big top!"

He turns on his heel, his tail coat twirling with him. The star shaped bells ringing as he began to skip away. "I'll see ya later candy!"

You send him one last wave as he disappears into the crowds. Your cheeks flushed a little from his little pet name for you.

"Today should be interesting." You hum, turning to tuck your earnings away under your counter just as a handful of teens came up to your stand.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Screams of delight filled the air, and possibly screams of terror as well as the whirring from the roller coaster's.
His eyes lingered on each guest passing him. His old friend really outdid himself didn't he? Always had the love for the carnival themes. He assumed his mother is what helped him get this far.
A few guests had to do a double take when they saw that his feet weren't even touching the ground. But of course, he paid them no mind as he levitated passed them.
Candy wrappers, receipts, and various other trash littered the ground, it made his eye twitch. Did anyone have any decency?
He lifted his feet a little higher, he didn't want his shoes getting anywhere near the trash or dirt.
His eyes landed on a young human, probably in their early twenties. And he grinned, this must be the candy human he's heard so much about.
"Might as well introduce myself."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You stretched your arms letting out a small groan, you've been on your feet all day. It was about time for your break.

Just as you were about to take your your 'closed' sign, you saw it. An oversized top hat, seeming to just levitate in the air.

And slowly, out of the crowd came a tall skeleton. Dressed in a black tail coat, with a deck of cards design along the trim. He wore a pair of solid white slacks with black and white saddle shoes.

A velvet red vest tucked in nicely, with an ace of spades symbol in the center of his big bowtie. Which was red with white and black harlequin pattern.

He was smaller than Hugo, if not slimmer. If he stood next to him, you'd think his head would be up to Hugo's chest.

As he came closer, you saw his face. His teeth were sharp in a grin, with vibrant red lipstick like Hugo's. A diamond on his cheek, as well as a masquerade mask that was red and white with a gold trim.

Tucked into the band around his hat was a few playing cards. His mismatched eyes met yours and his grin widened.

His left eye light glowed a soft red with a diamond pupil, his right was white with a heart pupil. The masked skeleton stands before you, with his arms tucked behind his back.

"You must be the candy vendor I've heard so much about. Its a pleasure to meet you.." He bends down in a bow, before his eyes burn into your very soul. His top had bobbed with his movements.

"Yeah that's me! I'm y/n, you must be Hugo's best man?" You hold your hand out to him.

The black clad skeleton chuckles, tilting his head before one of his gloved hands gives yours a quick shake. He wore white gloves.

His touch lingers however, leaving warmth in its wake. With his free hand he snaps his phalanges, and in a puff of red smoke and silver glitter a red rose appears out of thin air.

"He spoke so fondly of you. I knew I had to see you for myself." He says, handing you the rose.

Your cheeks flush as you take the rose, being mindful of the thorns. "Thanks you umm.."

"My mistake, I'd forget own head if it wasn't attached.. Although that's happened before.." He mutters, then shakes his head. "They call me The Great Malik, pleasure to meet you my spade."

"Malik.." You hum, which makes him smile. "So, what brings you to the carnival?"

Malik shrugs his shoulders. "Wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and I owe the fun-isher a favor or two. Figured he'd need a hand. Where is he anyway?"

You set the rose aside. "I can take you to him if you'd like. He'll be so happy to see you."

"I sure hope so, its been seven years since I've seen him. Did he tell you we were friends as children?" He asks, allowing you to take the lead as the two of you begin to walk through the carnival.

"He did, but he did mention a.. Loony bin?" You lift a brow.

Malik snickers at this. "He may be over thinking things. Really though, we grew up together since our parents were friends. His mother is such a sweet woman."

"Is she? Hugo talks about her all the time, but I've never met her."

Malik turns on his back with his arms behind his head, still floating next to you. "She doesn't like people, she's loves him though. She comes to his shows sometimes."

"That's sweet." You smile.

"Not as sweet as cotton candy though, am I right my spade?" He winks.

You blush and shake your head. "I don't think anything is sweeter than cotton candy."

"That's where you're wrong.." The magician grins, but doesn't elaborate. He just floats beside you with a toothy grin.

"Malik!" You hear the heavy footsteps of your hatchet wielding boss coming your way.

Before you knew it, Malik had been tackled to the ground and pulled into the tight embrace of the ringleader.

"Its been too long! I'm so happy I could stab you!" Hugo cackles, pulling the masked skeleton into his arms even tighter, his grip like a vice.

"Yeah.. Blood doesn't look great with with my outfit. Hugo." Malik snorts, patting his back before the two pull away from the embrace.

The two of them are back to their feet, they both have grins. But Hugo's is the biggest.

"Thanks for findin' him for me candy!" Hugo says.

"Sure thing Big H." You return the smile.

Malik dusts off his coat, looking down at his shoes in annoyance, before floating again. "Hugo I said watch my damn shoes."

Hugo turns to the magician and shakes his head. "Don't be such a diva Mr.Happy. We'll get you cleaned up!"

Hugo beams and ducks under his curtain. Malik rolls his eyes. "Looking forward to workin' with ya, my spade."

You flush. "Same here Malik."

He sends you a final wave, before he disappears into a gust of red dust.

Leaving you with a warm smile, along with red cheeks. You were looking forward to seeing him more often.

And maybe you'd see just how magical he was, or maybe that was wishful thinking.

End..! I hope you enjoyed! I'll see you all soon!
