Heart of gold.
Mari x reader for when you've had a shitty day, or you've felt like shit. We could all use a little bit of Mari in our lives.
Don't we?
Reader's gender isn't mentioned. I'm starting to get used to non binary readers! Enjoy my sunflowers!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yellow.
When you think of the color what's the first thing you think of? The sun? Daffodils? Candy? Lemonade?
Well, if anyone asked you this question. You'd immediately think of the ray of sunshine you had in your life.
Mari was a tall skeleton monster somehow crossed with a hornet. He wasn't aggressive like one though. Mari was there whenever you needed a shoulder to cry on.
The fitness buff hornet was the sweetest person you've ever met. Mari was one of the good ones, when you had lost hope in humanity, Mari literally buzzed into your life.
You've been tossed aside by fake friends, romantic partners, and various other shitty people in your life time.
It was hard to believe there were any kind people around with how harsh the world could be. But, you had found one.
Mari was raised with manners, he held the door open for you, lend you his jersey whenever it was chilly. Cover you with his large wingspan whenever it began to rain. Not to mention he was kind to everyone he met, whether they returned it or not.
If anyone were rude to you, they would quickly run off after one harsh glare from the hornet. Even Mari himself, the embodiment of happiness could get cocky if he needed to.
He was the best friend you never knew you needed. And the only one who stayed.
"We really need to get out more." He says, his sky blue eyes looking down at you where you laid across his chest. His first set of arms comfortably behind his head, while the other pair were currently snug around your waist.
Your face was in the giant collar of fluff around his neck. It was warm, so very soft and it smelled of sweetness and honeysuckle. It was hard not to fall asleep on top of him.
"What do you mean?" You ask, voice slightly muffled from the fluff currently covering your face.
"You know I can't sit still too long! Come on honey, we should go outside! The suns out!" Mari stretches his top set of arms, turning his neck and it makes a few pops.
"But it's too hot.." You sigh, leaning more into his fluff, feeling like you'd fall into it if you laid on it too long.
"We'll get ice cream then! I know just the place!" He suddenly sits up, causing you to fall back, but thankfully his second set of arms already caught you.
He tilts his head, his antennas twitching slightly as he quirks a grin. "Your hair is messy.." He comments, with a giggle.
You playfully swat at his chest. "Shut it Mar mar. Fine.. I'll go, but only because you said there will be ice cream!" You reluctantly untangle yourself from him.
"Take as long as you need! Put on something comfy!" He calls after you, watching as you take a turn down the hall to your room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Mari...how the hell." You say, giving him the side eye with a grin.
The hornet shrugs his shoulders, his second set of arms gone now. You had no idea how he did that, but then again you don't question Artsy's logic.
"How what?" He asks, turning on his heel to look at you, somehow skating backwards just to speak with you.
"How are you muscular! You're a skeleton!" You say, dramatically throwing your arms up in the air.
He spins again, sliding next to you once more, with a snort he looks down at you. "My ecto body. Its not summoned all the time, but you know. Plus it helps having nice legs!"
You couldn't argue with that. Besides Romeo, Mari had nice strong legs. Probably because he never takes off those damn Rollerblades that he loves so much.
"Is that why you always have this glow about you?" You ask him, pointing to the slight glow of his fluff.
Mari nods his head. "Yep! When I do have it summoned though, it takes up a lot of energy! But, as I've been told by Fear I'm nothing but energy! Its mostly just from the waist up though!"
You shake your head with a laugh. "I'll never understand magical skeletons."
"I don't think any of us will! Not even me!" Mari winks. "I don't even know my sexuality!"
The both of you share a laugh as he continues to lead the way to the ice cream shop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mari holds the door open for you, the little bell above it rings. And your instantly in a much chillier room than you were outside.
The shop was smaller, but it was cozy. The walls were painted a light blue, with paper snowflakes hanging from the ceiling.
The floors were marble, sparkling in a pretty ivory, with snowflake symbols painted over it in various places.
There were a few customers, a couple sharing a sundae, two teens with milkshakes, and an older man at a booth by himself with a hot cup of coffee.
Along the walls were blue fairy lights, various paintings of mountains and winter landscapes. Each shelf had a different snow globe from every state.
Mari was vibrantly out of place with all of the soft blues and silver. But he didn't seem to mind, he skated up to the counter. You trailing behind him.
Under the counter was a display showing off all of the many appetizing ice cream flavors as well as the many different toppings you could chose from.
Behind the counter was a shelf of various other desserts. All decked out in a winter theme.
You could see a pair of curled antenna's behind the counter, a transparent white with shimmering sparkles lining them.
Mari rings the bell far more tines than is necessary, with his excitement. Before you know it, the worker pops their head up then stands to their full height.
They too were a skeleton, somehow crossed with a moth it seemed. His red eyes looked at you, then to Mari before a smile rose on his face. He had a frost bite scar on his cheek you noticed.
He was slightly shorter than Mari, he had to look up to make eye contact. He to, had a massive collar of fluff around his neck. His pretty wings shimmering under the lights from the ceiling.
He wore a white turtleneck with a fluffy collared and fluffy trimmed sleeved sky blue down coat. One you would wear only in the winter time. White jean shorts, with black tights and matching blue snowboots.
He rest his arms on the counter and presents a friendly smile, you could feel the cold air radiating off of him as he leaned closer. "Mari, what brings you here?" He asks, his voice soft with an accent similar to Mari's.
Mari is practically vibrating in his excitement. "Oh Flurry! I'm so happy for you! Its great seeing you out of the mountains!"
Flurry shakes his head with a smile. "Still as energetic as always I see. And, who is this?" His ruby hues look down at you as he leans more forward. His constant coldness seeming only to get colder. Like a winter breeze.
"I'm y/n. Mari's best friend, you must be Flurry? His cousin?" You ask, reaching your hand out to him. "I've heard about Fear, but I take it you don't get out much?"
His hand cups yours, before he gives you a firm shake. His touch alone sends a shiver down your spine at its utter coldness. It felt as if you touched an ice cube.
"You'd assume right. I'm actually from the mountains of Alaska. Thought I'd finally move on to the city life, see if its really what its out to be. Its far warmer down here that's for sure." He says with a kind laugh, he pulls away and crosses his arms.
Mari squeals. "Flurry is younger than me by a few years! A little shy! But he finally got out and opened his own shop! I knew you had it in you!"
Flurry's cheeks light up a soft blue. "Alright.. Enough about me Mar. What can I help you two with?"
"Oh right! I'd like a caramel sundae!" Mari beams. "With lots and lots of those star sprinkles please! Ooh and chocolate chips!"
You tell him your order, one of your favorites, and what ever candies or sprinkles you'd like to go with it.
Mari leads you to a table where he sits across from you. "I just knew you two would like each other! He's not really a talker like me! He takes a little while to warm up to!"
You return the smile. "Its alright Mari, I like him. Isn't he hot though, wearing that scarf? And that heavy coat?"
Mari tilts his head. "Nope! For Flurry its always winter! No matter where he goes it snows! Its all the ice from his wing scales!"
You look over your shoulder and send a wave to the moth, who was currently working on your shared orders. Flurry sends you a wink before ducking behind the counter again with an ice cream scooper.
You look back at your best friend, who was currently snacking on the sugar packets. And you snort.
Happy, that you finally found someone genuine. Someone that truly had a heart of gold.
End! I hope you enjoyed! I just wanted some fluff with Mari, I'll see you all in the next update!
