~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your home was haunted. But, in the best way possible.
Your landlord didn't tell you until a month later of you living in your apartment that someone died in it.
At first, you were scared and angered that he didn't tell you sooner. But, you didn't have the money to move again, and no angry spirits were throwing furniture at you yet.. So you decided to stay.
And.. You slowly got more comfortable in your cold apartment. It always smelled of vanilla with a faint scent of lavender flowers. Maybe it was an older woman who passed? The smell was sweet and welcoming.
Your landlord never told you who died. But you didn't feel so alone now. They would clean up after you.
Sure it scared you one morning when you saw your pots and pans cooking themselves on the stove. But your 'roommate' pulled out a chair for you and even served you a plate.
They haven't revealed themselves. But they always tucked you in at night. You really thought it was a lonely older woman who just wanted someone to take care of.
But, you were wrong.
"Hey can you move the couch so I can sweep under it?" You call out, standing in your living room with your vacuum in hand.
You heard a soft hum before your sofa was lifted in the air by an invisible force. "Thank you!" You smile, continuing with your chores.
You had went to the bathroom when they revealed their name to you. You had been scrubbing the tub when the mirror fogged up, and a hidden finger signed their name in the most beautiful cursive you've ever seen.
'Jasper.'
It read. Maybe he was a lonely little old man then? But the reflection in the mirror told you otherwise.
His lavender eye light looked up at you in awe while his other socket clicked like a clock. He was a skeleton monster wearing what looked like to be a white wedding tux? A very expensive pocket watch hang from his torso. Along with a long purple ghostly tail.
Behind his bowtie was a nasty looking wound. His throat had been slit, smoke formed from the wound around his neck.
"Oh wow.." You say in awe, even for a ghost he was pretty cute.
His cheekbones flushed a light sky purple before he hid behind his see through hands.
"Aww how cute! You're like a boo!" You giggle, causing his cheekbones to flush even darker.
Jasper kept you good company for the passed two years you've been living here. He loved to help you around the house, he didn't talk much but when he did his voice was as soft as a lullaby.
He would sit with you on the couch and watch all the TV dramas you loved to watch. His phalanges running through your hair.
"Hey Jasper, I've got a question." You turn to look at him, the ghost removes his phalanges from your hair and rests his hands in his lap. He tilts his head so you know he's listening.
"How come you've never thrown furniture at me or dragged me down the hallway?" You ask him, remembering all the horror movies you've seen with ghosts. "Or stacked all the chairs on the dining table?"
He rests a single phalange on his chin, and he softly smiles. "I enjoy the company... And I've never been.. An... Aggressive monster." He had to take deep breaths each time he spoke because of his wound it made it harder to talk.
You nod your head at that. "Well that's good. I'm just glad you didn't tell me to get out or throw a table at me." You snicker.
His shoulders shake, meaning he was silently laughing along with you. "I'd.. Never."
After a while of comfortable silence between you two, he notices you shiver again.
"I'm.. Sorry for... The cold. I.. Can't help it..." He apologizes, cheeks flushed purple in embarrassment.
"Its alright Jasper." You reassure him and wrap your favorite blanket around your shoulders with a smile.
"...you know.. There is a few things.. I miss being alive." He changes the subject, eyes looking at the wall behind you.
"And what is that?" You ask him, following his gaze to the clock on the wall.
"...Touch. I've never known... The love of another... Person. I thought I did once... But look where that got me." He mutters, his wound bleeding a little bit as it did when he's upset.
"...what happened?" You sit up and look at his face, if you squinted you could faintly see the tear stains on his face.
"...a girl I once knew.. She had a beautiful face.. But a rotten heart. She.. Left me for another.. Right after she.. Left me for dead." His sockets went blank, and you can hear the faint ticking of a clock.
He looks down at his left hand, the emerald ring on his finger a constant reminder of the woman who killed him. He removes it and throws it across the room.
It smacks against the far wall with a loud click.
You wished you could hug him and comfort him, but sadly you could not. "I'm sorry.." Is all you say.
The ghost sighs. "Its not your fault.." His eye lights return, and he rests a cold hand on your cheek. "You have.. Nothing to be sorry about.. Be lucky you'll never... Have to meet her. She and her.. Suitor...ran off long ago.."
He wraps his arms around you. "...besides.. You are much more.. Beautiful than she is.." He sighs, resting his skull on your shoulder.
Although you couldn't touch him, you could feel him. The smoke around his neck was the source of his lavender vanilla scent.. And his torso as slightly warm as were your cheeks from his compliment.
You two sat there in comfortable silence, his warmth around you in a protective, loving way. His scent filling your senses, making you relax in his hold.
You couldn't be there for him in life, but you knew you would be there for him in his afterlife. You would proudly be his shoulder to cry on for eternity.
Just you, and your ghostly roommate. Against the world.
End. I hope you enjoyed this fluff! I'll see you in the next update!
Xoxo-Artsy.
