(Amber's POV)
"Steven!" I called as I walked up to "It's A Wash". My dog Caramel walked beside me. She didn't need a leash, she never has.
"Oh hey Amber!" Steven says jumping up and running over to me.
"Oh hi Steven! What's with the bag?" I ask and point to the bag he has slung over his shoulder and the pillow in his arms.
"Oh this? I'm moving out of the van to go live with my uh, aunts. They live down the street." He says and pauses for a second then looks back at me.
"Didn't know you had aunts, what are there names?" I ask him and he pets Caramel's head.
"Uh... Grace, yeah, Amy and uh Penny." (A/N okay for anybody who didn't get that it's Garnet Amethyst and Pearl, hence the G, A, and P names) He says. I shoot him a suspicious look considering he had to think about it. He puts on a fake, nervous smile. He's never been a good liar, but I shrug it off.
"Where's your dad?" I ask looking around and the van is nowhere to be seen.
"He'll be right back to pick me up." Steven says.
"Why aren't you going to live with him anymore?" I ask.
"You always were the curious one," he says shaking his head and chuckles "we're running out of space in there so he thought I could move in with my aunt's Gail, Abby and Pam." He says.
"Those weren't the names you used before, now you're starting to freak me out Steven, are you okay?" I ask.
"O-oh I'm okay, oh look here comes dad now." He says as the van pulls into the parking lot.
"You ready to go sport?" Greg asks Steven. He nods and puts his bags into the back of the van.
"Oh hi Amber, it's good to see you." He says to me.
"It's good to see you too Mr. Universe." I say as Steven opens the door to get into the van.
"Can I still visit you Steven, I'm gonna miss you." I tell him.
"Of course you can come over any time, you have my number, I will be busy though, but I can always make time for my special friend." Steven says and gives me a hug, I hug him back. He gets into Greg's van as they drive off.
"Well let's head home and tell mom the news." I say to Caramel and we walk home.
       "Mom something is definitely going on with Steven." I tell my mom as I'm sitting at the table.
       "Oh, is he okay?" She asks as she stirs a pot of boiling water and throws some pasta into the water.
       "Yeah, at least he says he is, and if he wasn't okay I hope he'd tell me. He's moving down the street apparently, he's staying in Beach City thankfully." I tell her.
       "That's good, I'd hate to see him go, it's nice here don't ya think." She says and sits down in front of me at the table.
       "Yeah, I wouldn't live anywhere else." I say to her.
       "You're dad didn't think the same thing.." she mutters to herself. I don't ask. I know better then to ask about dad.
       I never got to meet dad. He was a friend to Greg. I think they might have toured a bit together. He played the drums. He apparently knew Steven's mom too. Steven doesn't talk about her and I don't ask. But Dad was a free spirit, he never liked being tied down, so when I came around mom and me must have been "tying him down" so he left. I never got to meet him but I've seen pictures of him from Greg. Mom doesn't have any pictures around the house of him, at least not that I know of. Most of what I have learned about him was from Greg. He's been like a father figure to me and Steven's been like a brother, that's why I didn't want him to leave me.
       "Amber are you okay?" Mom asks me and rests a hand on my shoulder, I had started crying. I nod and she wraps me in a hug.
       "Why do the best people have to go?" I ask her through my tears.
       "I don't know honey, I don't know." She says and rubs my back. Caramel came over to me and put her front legs on my chair and nuzzled me. I pet her head and smile. Mom puts down a bowl of pasta in front of my and Caramel smells it.
       "No silly, that's my food." I giggle and gently push her off of my chair and she sits looking up at me with her big puppy dog eyes. I smile and eat my food.
       "Is it okay if me and Caramel go and walk down the board walk and to the beach to watch the sun set?" I ask Mom.
       "Yeah, I would come but I have some stuff here to take care of, bring a flashlight just in case." She says. I finish my food and wash my bowl and put it in the dishwasher then I grab a flashlight and a leash just in case then I slip on my sandals and walk down to the board walk.
