PART ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE

2.

Not long, just a few days in fact, before Tanya Ferguson and Jason Alveron came to visit Jerry Grady, there had been another visit. Abigail Smith, eldest biological sister of Majella Smith, paid a visit to Jerry Grady and she did not get to do so alone. This visit would not have occurred at all if a certain Samuel Fontaine had not come into contact with Abigail Smith in a night club towards the end of July 2016. Now heading towards the second week of August 2016, Sammy has arranged for Abigail to see Jerry.

Why would Abigail Smith want to meet with Jerry Grady? Abigail knows that her own missing sister is special; she knows that Majella was taken for a reason and of course she has always wanted to get answers. More important than answers, Abigail wants her sister back and a chance meeting with Sammy Fontaine was not by chance at all.

Even with her want for answers, even with her desire for her sister's safe return, Abigail Smith attempted to live her own life as normally as possible. At home things were horrible. Dad Tom and sister Lisa struggled as did Abigail too. Dad amassed massive debts in his attempts to get to his missing daughter. Holding down a job was ever so difficult when his mind and thoughts are focused elsewhere and despite his efforts, he never got anywhere close enough to finding anything worthwhile out.

Things got so bad that the home mum had lived in way back when, the home Majella had known too, had to be sold. Indeed, as it was, Jenifer and Majella Smith never got to live within that home at the same time. Yeah, Jenifer Smith did not survive giving birth to Majella; a family did not get to see itself come complete.

Thomas Smith and his daughters due to circumstance had to move into a small apartment in the aftermath of one daughter being taken away and the Smith family also would have to get used to having to get around without a family vehicle.

Abigail, being five years older than Majella and eighteen years of age at the time Majella was taken, took a job to help out financially as best she could. At twenty-one, having kept some money to herself and wanting something that resembled normalcy, Abigail accepted an invitation from work associates in an attempt to be friendly, in an attempt to be ... normal and she joined them on a night out.

It was in a night club on that night out that Abigail met Sammy. She thought he was attempting to pick her up and in her attempt at normalcy allowed a conversation to happen. For Sammy, fate or something higher up, led him directly to Abigail. A light, a kind of spotlight shone down on Abigail and she did not seem affected by it or even be aware of it. Associates or acquaintances may exactly be what those near to Abigail are since current circumstances make it difficult for her to gain close friendships.

This night club spotlight, when it came, followed her as she moved and it indeed appeared that only Sammy was aware of this light so something most certainly was suggesting to him to go talk to her. In a way too there was something there that insisted Abigail to go converse with this fellow. It was something more than a want to have something normal in her life. It even got to the point that Abigail felt compelled to open up to this Sammy fellow and open up she did.

Abigail spoke of her missing sister and of how she had been taken, this is something she had never discussed openly with anyone else other than her dad and remaining sister. Sammy would have loved to have opened up too, but he couldn't. He would have loved to have told Abigail that Majella is safe or as safe as she could be given the circumstance Majella was in. Yeah, there was abuse though a limit did exist as to how much Sammy could do.

He feared the worst if he were to tell of exactly what he knew, he knew how dark Darkness could get and he knew consequences could come quite severe and consequences were to be and are a part of life. He can cast an eye at times upon Majella and he knows Majella indeed lives. Three days after first meeting Abigail, Sammy did tell her that he could get a letter to Majella if Abigail would be willing to write one and he told her no more as to how he could do this other than the fact that Abigail could and should trust him so indeed a letter was written and then delivered.

Having never previously met Jerry Grady though indeed having had time with Maxene, Jerry's biological daughter, Sammy attempted to aid Abigail with getting some of the answers she desired by arranging that meeting between them.

And of course, Jerry Grady does have a missing daughter, not sister but a daughter he has not seen since the day a life altering event occurred. Majella Smith at the time Abigail meets with Jerry is not far away from an escape from an apparent mental health facility where Sammy indeed so happens to work and with Jerry Grady being held at a separate mental health facility ... well ... Sammy could use his contacts in arranging a get together.

Not sure what she could ask or even ask to what exactly she was walking into, Abigail went along with what was to come. Sammy prepped her somewhat so if she could gain answers of any sort or even be set onto a path which leads to Majella then Abigail would be all for it. As it would turn out, Abigail Smith would not so much get to ask questions of Jerry Grady.

A guard escourt brings the visitors to where they need to be, and a guard presence remains within the visitor room or interview room and it can be referred to as either. Jerry Grady is chained at the wrists and ankles to the table he sits at. No sooner do his visitors sit when Jerry speaks.

'Your sister ...' he says addressing the young lady, '... is not unlike my daughter.'

This catches Abigail by surprise. It is not how she expected things to go, in fact she did not know what to expect though it certainly was not this. If this statement is in anyway true, then how could someone locked away and chained know such a thing? Remaining silent or rather too stunned to be anything otherwise, she listens as Jerry continues to speak.

'Darkness is coming ...'

'We know that Mister Grady ... we are actually here ...' Sammy speaks though he is quickly cut off.

'No, you don't know. You boy may be no stranger to Darkness, but danger is coming. In fact, it is imminent.'

Abigail turns to Sammy as if to silently ask as to what the man in chains means. Maybe there really is a reason as to why that man is in a place such as this.

'What do you mean sir?' Sammy asks.

No matter if the man before him is a criminal, a murderer, an insane member of society or even an innocent man manipulated by Darkness itself, Sammy remains respectful, if not to keep the peace more so then in being his own regular self.

'You know Darkness as well as I do, perhaps even more so ... protect yourselves ... protect this lady. She is in danger, imminent danger ... fight the shadow with light ... only light can save her now ...'

Becoming somewhat agitated, to the point guards need to come restrain him as if the chains might not do their job, Jerry continues his warning much louder now than he had before. 'Fight the shadow, protect yourselves ...'

Jerry Grady is taken at this point to be returned to his room and while he is to be returned to his room, he speaks something that takes Sammy back to when he was six years old, to a day where he wore a suit of white that his mother had got for him. And as the distance between Jerry and his visitors increases so does the loudness of his voice.

"Don't be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows ..."

Sammy once again, just as he did when he had been six and listening to the sermon that included those word, considers the Grace of God as that had been the topic of the sermon all those years ago.

Abigail and Sammy are escourted out of the building. Abigail has no idea of what to make about what had happened, even with all of his own prior life experience Sammy too does not know how to react. Once outside and left to themselves, things escalate. Neither could know that Darkness has had visitations with Jerry over the years he has spent within the facility he is kept within.

It is mid-afternoon by the time Abigail Smith and Sammy Fontaine came to be alone together in the great outdoors outside the facility within which they had paid a visit to Jerry Grady and Sammy notices something strange right away. There are three shadows upon the ground when there should be only two. Yeah, the afternoon is a bright one but not bright enough to create an extra shadow.

'C'mon' Sammy says, 'we better get going.'

Abigail does as what is said to her as she cannot help but remember what Majella predicted the last time they had been together. Perhaps she is sensing something in this moment as surely Sammy is too. A draining feeling quickly consumes Sammy. Something bad is about to happen and there may be nothing he can do to stop it. His own time, many years prior, with Darkness will give him no say, if anything it will only allow Darkness that little bit more joy in what it is that is about to happen.

Something unseen or close to being unseen pushes Abigail, it connects high up her back, halfway right between the shoulder blades. She manages to stay on her feet and fear seriously takes a hold upon her. There is a second push then a third and when a fourth push comes Abigail can no longer stay on her feet. On the ground three shadows close in on Abigail. They attack with an apparent intent to cause severe harm. Sammy has to do something, and he may not have long to do so. What was it Jerry had said 'fight the shadow with light'? What light? Sure, isn't it broad daylight as it is?

Daylight creates shadow, right? Maybe he needs something more. Abigail screams, blood has already been drawn. Light, perhaps that really is it; sure, light can also eradicate shadow. Shine light directly onto the shadows and they will be defeated, can it be that simple? Simple however, is not so simple at all. Being where they are, there are plenty of vehicles parked and unattended, each of these vehicles have side rear view mirrors. Use one of these ... easier said than done.

Abigail scream, roars and cries, her torture increasing by the second. Breaking a side view mirror off of the side of a car is not such an easy thing to do especially when there is so much pressure in the moment to get it done. She is screaming uncontrollably, painful pleas from one who's life is about to end. Each second brings that end closer and closer.

How do you fend off shadow? The screams, have they stopped? Sammy has that mirror. To use it he angles it to capture the sun and send what beam of light he can gather over to where Abigail lays on the ground.

She is not moving, the shadows are gone, is it too late? Sammy runs to her still angling the mirror. There is blood, so much blood. It is too late. Abigail Smith is dead and there is nothing Sammy Fontaine can do about it. He tries, for that is in his nature. Not all so far away a young lady, a girl watches on. This girl, she is not the daughter of Jerry Grady, no, who she may be for now is not so important. What she sees may, in time, be of importance to her ...

Next time Sammy Fontaine is in his place of employment, he feels guilty, he feels useless, how can he look Majella's way and say nothing? This won't be a problem for long as Majella does not have long left where she is. Aided, or not, by Darkness, Majella will soon move on. And she will have a lot on her plate. Sammy has that letter; the letter Abigail wrote. He will make sure Majella gets it, and on the day she does get it, she will also leave the place she is in.

The day is coming ... the day really is coming ...
