Brad's blue hypnotic eyes looked down at me as we stood opposite each other in front of the glass counter of Jewelry Heaven. His brow wrinkled.

"Something...wrong?" I nervously asked. I had just gotten my haircut shorter and was worried that Brad silently disapproved. His store visit was also after Mr. Garrison—my boss—had informed me that Jewelry Heaven would be closing for good at the end of the month.

Sell as much jewelry as you can to our best customer, Mr. Garrison had instructed me earlier. I'd like to retire to Florida and the extra money will come in handy.

I was shocked. Jewelry Heaven was going out of business? Still, I knew Mr. Garrison to be a caring and righteous merchant. Why would he tell me to take advantage of Mr. Summers like that?...
