I walked towards the lunchroom, my heart pounding, my ears ringing, my breathing heavy and my arms stinging. I hated lunch. It was basically "make my life miserable" hour. The only good things were that I got to freely talk to my best friend, Finley Hale, and that I got to sneak glances at my crush. 

I entered the lunchroom, and quickly ran over to the table in the far left corner, where only Finley sat. No one else ever sat at even the same table as us. I allowed myself a small smile, and sat down across from the only person in this whole school that didn't hate me. Finley and I were also the only two openly lgbt kids here, so we were freaks. I opened my lunch bag and took out a small sandwich. I sank into my own little world, one where only Finley and I existed, one where no one could bring me down.

I clutched my books, head down, as I went to my next class—study hall. I actually liked study hall, because we could do whatever we wanted. I didn't usually suffer too badly because of adult supervision, but I could still be free with my thoughts. Most of these thoughts were about my crush, Jack West, but what can you do do about that. Jack West—way out of my league, yet I still fell for him. All the girls in the school were drooling all over him. I would join them, but I knew I didn't even have a chance. I am a guy, after all. The only bright spot was the rumor going around that Jack was actually gay. Finley and I were on a mission to see if that rumor was true—and if it was, to make him mine.
