13. Present
*Ophiuchus' POV*
*Flashback to 1000 years ago*
"Please, your majesty," the lady says bowing to the queen. "Have mercy. He didn't mean to show any harm."
The queen of England looked at her two best knights. "Take them away," she says cold and heartless. "Both of them."
The lady and her father who she was trying to save were both now standing to be sent to the dungeon. They both grunted and tried to leave the strong grips as the two knights forced them away from the queen.
"Oh, and Knight Ophiuchus?" the queen says.
"Yes, my queen?" I say pausing for her.
"Do not have any mercy if they try to escape," she says to me with devious eyes.
"Yes, my queen," I say as the other knight and I take away the future prisoners.
I was a knight. A great and loyal one, in fact. The queen and I have a complicated relationship. In my opinion. The tension between us is one sided. She felt no way towards me. We finally arrived to the dungeon and the other knight and I throw the two prisoners in the same cell.
"No, let us go!" the lady says shaking the bars.
"I shall not," I say turning away from her cell. The other knight and I had to stay where our prisoners were held captive until another arrives.
"Don't worry, father. This will all be over soon," she says to her father hugging him.
"Indeed it shall," the other knight begins to talk. "In about a week or two, the queen will have you both executed."
"Executed? My father has done nothing wrong!" she yelled out to the other knight.
"Stealing the queen's goods sounds like a wrong thing to do," I say to her.
She huffed and puffed. "Executing us will not make things any better!"
Finally, another knight showed up. "Shall we leave? I am growing tired of hearing her yells," the other knight asked me.
"I think we must," I reply. The girl was still screaming and yelling and comforting her father at the same time.
The other knight and I start walking to the other side of the dungeon until another shouted to me. "Ophiuchus! The queen wants a word with you!"
I look at the knight who was walking with me. He gave me a worried look. "Good luck," he says to me.
I walk up to the stairs to meet the queen. She was wearing a long black, blue, and red dress with golden jewelry on it. She was looking in her closet for something else to wear for bed. I knock on the door that was already open as a sign that I was here as she wished.
She turned around and smiled. "My dear Ophiuchus! Have a seat," she says to me gesturing to the nearest chair.
"You called upon me?" I asked her taking a seat like she asked. Or told.
"Mm, that I did. It's time for our supper."
I looked at her confused,"I thought we already had supper? Before we took upon the two prisoners."
She took a seat beside me. "I'm being polite today. You deserve a bigger feast than the other knights today."
I was shocked. Usually I would be treated like every other knight there was. I felt a great feeling inside. Appreciation.
She set up the table for a big feast for the two of us to eat together. "Eat up, before it gets cold," she says to me handing me silver utensils and a napkin. It felt great to actually be treated like royalty today.
"Thank you, mother," I say to her.
She smiled at me.
*End of flashback*
~Yesterday, before the ritual~
I was walking across the street only to find some truck speeding and almost running me over.
"Watch where you're going!" they yelled to me and drove off.
I didn't mind it. I was stuck in my own personal hell for centuries. Just with a flick of my wrist, they could be gone now, but I decided not to do that.
The only thing in my hell were books, remakes of this world, but only there were no people. Alone, I was there. I forget I can't cross the road when there are real life people driving. When you live centuries without people, you sometimes forget they really exist.
I saw a long haired boy, some black haired boy, and a short girl with platinum blonde hair walk into a library. I started to walk inside too to see what exactly this new world has.
There were a lot of books as I imagined. Most were the books I've seen and read in hell. There weren't a lot of people here except for maybe sixteen. I saw the librarian lady reading a book. I saw other people looking and also reading books. Everything here is so quiet. I then went to look for one of my favorite books, but little did I know the long haired boy who walked in picked it up and started reading it. The Last Song.
The boy and I talked for a little while. He looked like he was about 19 or 20 years old, so only about 5 or 4 years younger than me, well imortally-wise. He loved the book just as much as I did. I grabbed another copy of the book and started reading. He was asking a lot of questions like about my love life, it was hilarious to me. That was until he asked if I loved my ex girlfriend. My face frowned up and the happiness I had thinking of her turned into pure anger.
"To death," I said looking at him, shutting my book, and leaving the boy to check the book out. I was hesitating on taking the book with me, but a strong impulse told me to do so anyway.
When I left the library, I started thinking over and over what happened between my first love and I. It made me sad yet so angry yet so happy. Everything was a mess. I was a mess. I gripped the book in one hand and clenched my jaw of the aching thought. "I need a bloody drink," I said outloud to myself.
I inhaled and exhaled deeply and slowly trying to keep my calm and it worked a little bit. I was then walking for what seems like forever. I knew how to drive because I taught myself, but I don't own a car. I made my own liscense when I was in hell too, hoping that the day I was back would come and it did. I've done nothing but plot my return, and I'm still stuck on a bloody girl.
~Yesterday, during the ritual~
It was dark by the time I found a bar. I wasn't exhausted at all given that I exercised for centuries alone. I just really needed a drink. I walk inside a bar with bright neon lights out in front of the building. "Local Bar". It sounds really plain and simple, it could do much better than that. I look around and see that there were a lot of people. The lights weren't on, but there were millions of lamps and neon lights inside. The inside of the bar looked almost red and blue.
I see a bartender showing his tricks to impress ladies. Of course, they swoon and he gives them each a shot. I turned around and saw a lot of drunk people singing and dancing to some horrible song. I was amazed by how many people there were.
"Are you going to stand there by the door or let other people pass?" someone asked me. I'm guessing she works here.
"I don't have money," I replied with. I could easily shut everyone off and take whatever I wanted, but it was great being normal for once. With people.
The woman looked at me. She had on black nail polish, but her nails were short. Her hair was also short and black and she wore red lipstick to match her red uniform. Blue, red, and white. I'd probably mistaken her for a flag if she wasn't this close. She had her arms crossed and was chewing bubblegum.
"What?" I say waiting for her to say something when she didn't.
"You're gonna have to need money to buy things," she said to me then blowing a bubble with her gum.
"He's with me," some girl said putting her hand on my shoulder. "And I'm paying." The girl looked at me and I looked back at her.
The woman held her hands up in defense, still chewing her gum and walked back to where she was before.
The girl rolled her eyes and turned me around with her. "You can't stand in front of the door just staring at people. Most people are going to think you're wanting to start a fight," she said to me as I walked with her.
I nodded. "Thanks," I say, not really meaning it, but it seemed normal, right?
"No problem," she sat down at a booth and I sat across from her. "That was Cleo. This is her dad's bar. Was."
"Is he dead?" I ask looking at her and sipping a drink she gave me. It was really strong, but sweet at the same time.
She nodded her head. "No, but he passed it down to his daughter when he found out he had an opportunity to start a bar in Vegas." She waved to someone asking her to give her the same drink she gave me.
She then turned back to me and pointed to one of the drunk guys. He has a scruffy brown beard and was pretty big. He was laughing and drinking all at once. "That's Carl. He goes here almost everyday, drunk off his ass in and even more drunk out. He's pretty much of a cool guy though," she continued recieving her drink and sipping from it.
She then pointed to the bartender guy. "That's Jax. He's hot, but really a pain in the ass sometimes. I barely talk to him though," she said almost laughing. She then stopped laughing and started playing with the straw in her glass of water.
I nodded. She seemed like she's having a bad day right now. Why else would she been sitting all along in the first place? "You left out someone," I said to her getting more comfortable.
Her eyes lit up as she was drinking. She was drinking the water with a straw right now, but her glass full of rum beside her was already empty. She stopped drinking. "Who would you like to know?" she asked turning her head to the side and giving me a seductive look.
I smirked at her. "What's your name?"
She smirked back and pulled out a hand as I shook it. "Sagittarius. And you are?"
