~Y/N POV~

This place was cold for sure, but I tried to steal as much warmth from Joy as I could, by sticking to her like glue, but soon enough I didn't have to do that when I felt something drape across my shoulders.

I gasped at the sudden warmth and turned around my find Tae suddenly missing his dark brown cardigan he had on. I smiled at him as a thank you and he smiled back with just a little slip of a chuckle.

Turning back around, Joy stopped with her eyes settled to something in the corner. I followed her line of sight and I could just see someone's legs, stretched out next to the bars. Its had to be Kai.

I unlinked our arms and ran over to Kai.

"Kai!"

His furrowed eyes sprung up to meet mine and I smiled at him.

"Y/n what are you doing down here?" Kai

"I wanted to talk to you before they make a decision."

He nods and looks behind me and the nods again.

"Hi Joy." Kai

I heard her hum from behind me and I took up a spot to sit down on the cold stone. Kai then looked away from Joy awkwardly and down at his hands rested on his lap.

"How are you doing Y/n? I guess congratulations is in order then." Kai

It took me moment to realise what he meant and then I let out a little laugh. All my anger towards him from the past in now long gone. I came to conclusion last night that not only was Kai trying to save my life when Hyeon had me in a cell but also my child's and I felt grateful towards him now.

"Oh, thank you. I'm okay, much better than I was, thank goodness, but I just wanted to say thank you."

He frowned again, a little confused. Next to me I felt Joy come to sit next to me quietly and cross her legs, but I didn't look at her, I just remained set on Kai at the moment.

"Why?" Kai

"That's a silly question Kai. You tried to help me when I was held captured and you even told them.."

I pointed at Jin and Taehyung that were just a few feet away behind me.

"Where I was and risked your own life doing it."

Kai shifted on his spot and pulled his legs up to his chest to turn on his bum on the ground and cross his legs like Joy, so now he was facing me dead on.

"It was nothing Y/n, really. Nothing compared to what I've done to you." Kai

He sighed sadly and he fiddled with the hem of his shirt, looking down at his legs.

"You made it up to me in my opinion. Not only did you save me but my baby too, and I'll be grateful, I think if it weren't for you that fever would of killed me for sure."

I heard Tae hum deeply from behind and Jin sigh loudly. Don't know why but I ignore it. Kai didn't say anything, he just stayed quiet and refused to look at me until he sighed and shook his head with his shoulders dropping. Then with his quivering lip he surprised me by pushing his face up against the bars, with his puppy eyes, I once loved so much.

"I didn't know your mom and dad were going to be killed Y/n. I promise you I didn't know." Kai

"But you took Y/n and left ME to die!" Joy

She raised her voice, the first bit of noise shes made since seeing him. Kai, doesn't flinch but looks at her and closing his eyes taking a deep breath and allows on ear to slip down his cheek while he nods lightly and opens his eyes back again and stares deeply at Joy.

"I did and I'm sorry. With everything that was going on, to be honest my true sights were only on Y/n and Joy I'm very sorry for that. Truly and nothing will make up for that, for what happened to you Joy and if the kings chose death for me then so be it. I deserve it, for everything really." Kai

"Kai..."

His eyes flicked back to me.

"Don't tell me its in the past Y/n. I'll accept my fate, I've been a horrible person, to you, to Joy, your parents and even Irene too. You know she left me a voicemail the other day, telling me that its a boy. I've been such a asshole, that I guess this will be my karma." Kai

He let out a bittersweet chuckle and I couldn't help feel broken for him. He hand two on his hands gripping the bars, so I gently placed one of mine on top of his and surprisingly Joy did the same with his hand.

His eyes grew twice the size and his mouth hung open.

"Why did you become a vampire then? Why did you do all this?" Joy

She took the words right out of my mouth.

"I didn't want to become this. Hyeon said if I helped him, he would help me with getting Y/n back to me. He forced me into this and his excuse was that he needed me like this to stronger to help him and he used Y/n against me, he told me that she would like me more. Obviously it was a lie." Kai

He sighed and looked down again, to move his face away from the bars but not his hands that we still held.

"Kai, that was stupid!" Joy

He nods, with another bitter chuckle.

"I know, I was just too blind to see it. I knew something was off about him the moment I saw him but the moment he said your name, I didn't care anymore." Kai

"Did you perhaps do it to protect Y/n in a way? In some weird, dark way?" Joy

Huh?

How is that protecting me?

Kai, looked straight at Joy with a little more emotion in them than sad, he was a little more serious than anything else.

"Yes." Kai

"How was teaming up with Hyeon protecting me?"

I heard some footsteps come closer from behind me and Kai, briefly looked up with a blank face before looking back at me.

"Kai, what are you talking about?" Joy

"It was my plan from the moment he asked me to help him. I'm not that stupid." Kai

The sad Kai was no longer there anymore, if not he became serious and expressionless all over his face.

"I don't understand."

He hums and moves his hands away from mine and joys to set them down in between his legs on the ground.

"I knew he wasn't going to actually help me from the start when he ran into me in the garden one day. Something was dead off about him and when he mentioned your name and his reason behind it all. I knew I had to accept it, it was better if I kept an eye on you then another unknown vampire, so yes I did as he told me and showed you their basement." Kai

His eyes flickered behind him again when Jin grumbled a little bit but Kai didn't react.

"I didn't plan on becoming a vampire though, that was unexpected and I didn't plan on your parents being killed either. But everything else, I did was to keep you safe from that weirdo. I listened to his demands and brought you to his home but only because I knew I could keep a close eye on you and my original plan was to escape that place with you, I hadn't planned to where but somewhere safe. Actually the day before Hyeon made orders for Sam to keep me away from you I found an single square window in the back of the dungeon. It was hidden by broken old book shelves. I was going to take you out there, but I was taken away so I made a new plan and that was to get your soulmates to come to you." Kai

Okay, wow.

I didn't expect all that.

"Well thank you Kai."

He pressed his lips together into a thin line and nods.

"Y/n, I think we should get going now. We have a meeting with the others." Jin

I nod at him with my back still turned to him and I take Joys hand in mine. Kai just slid back up against the wall and leaned his head against it and curled up his knees to his chest.

"We should get going Kai, but thank you. Really for everything." Kai

He nods once and forced a little smile, keeping his lips in a thin line but could pass as very small smile.

With once last look and a smile, I stand up from the ground with Joys hand in mine and we turned away to walk out this place and back up the stairs with Jin in front and Tae behind us.

Little did anyone but Taehyung and Jin know that, another Vampire King was down there with them. Hiding in the shadows listening, watching everything that was said. He hummed in satisfaction.

"So Jin was right, he could be useful."
