Chapter Two: Prince

🔥 🔥 🔥

"Sasuke, this is my friend's daughter. Do you know her?"

"Yes, Father. She's in my class.  Why?"

No answer yet, but instead, "Well, how about you properly introduce yourself?"

"Okay. Hello.  My name is Uchiha Sasuke."

A soft chuckle.  "A very polite young boy, Uchiha.  Kids don't normally bow like that nowadays. Now your turn."

Her lavender eyes dropped slightly. She nodded. "It's nice to meet meet you, Uchiha-san.  My name is Hyuuga Hinata."

A small pause as Father knelt down, placing a hand on his son's shoulder. "You and little Hinata are going to be very close friends from now on.  And one day, you two shall do something that'll make your fathers very proud - you shall unite our two families."

The memory always wiggled its way forward when Sasuke found himself in this very familiar situation. A girl he was pretty sure was in his grade stood before him. There was nothing particularly outstanding about her. Just another blond girl lowering her head shyly as she tried to gain her courage. It was nothing he hadn't seen a hundred times.

With a sigh, Sasuke dropped his head back and gazed at his school. The dark haired boy rested his hands in his pockets. He would give the girl all the time she needed so she could get what he knew was coming out of her system, and he could move on with his life. Having nothing better to do, he shifted his gaze between the school and the students walking into it.

To people who had not seen the school before, Sasuke was sure they would be awed by the sight. The school was extremely large. Its white-brick surface spanned the length of two footballs before turning to make it like a U-shape, and it raised four floors up. From there the roof turned red with a gate encircling it. A fountain sat in the center of the U-shape, water gushing from the feet of a man who was most likely the headmaster. Trees lined the walkway into the school, a few benches sitting in their shade.

Sasuke wasn't sure what it was that made him move his attention to the gate encircling the school, but he did. It was both then that he saw her and when the blond decided to speak.

"We-Well, you see, Uchiha-ku-kun," the girl stuttered. "I kn-know that we don't rea-really know each oth-other, but I-" She paused, as if hoping that Sasuke would actually face her while she confessed, but he was very intent not to do so.

For one, it would only crush any hope she may have that she could have him. The second thing was his eyes were following the dark haired girl walking behind a boy with long brown hair. Both were facing forward, but the boy was whispering something to the girl.

As if sensing his stare, the girl paused. She twisted around, only stopping when her eyes met his. It was only for a second, and then she tore her gaze away and continued on her way. Just how she always did.

Because even if they'd agreed to their parents, Hinata didn't want the entire world to know about them.

"Uchiha-kun."

Sasuke flinched. He returned his focus on the blond, taken off guard by how steady her voice had grown. The girl had straightened out of her nearly hunkering position, her chin held high. There was a slight tremor in her lip, but she was doing a rather impressive job trying to appear tough when Sasuke had already made his investment in the conversation clear.

"I like you."

The boy's jaw twitched. He never knew what face to make when girls confessed. Although he wanted to make sure they gave up pursuing him, he didn't want to be absolutely cruel. But the girls being so consistent was annoying considering he had said the exact same thing to everyone.

"I'm not interested," Sasuke replied.

The tremor in the girl's jaw grew worse, tears building in the corner of her eyes. Regardless, the girl nodded. She attempted to force a smile. It a great deal of Sasuke's willpower not to walk away to save the girl from the nearly pathetic display.

"Thank you for taking your time to talk to me then, Uchiha-kun."

Sasuke remained rooted in his spot as the girl spun on her heel and headed back toward the gate. Nearly at the same moment another blond detached herself from the group of students, jogging toward the one who had confessed. This blond had extremely long hair up in a ponytail and what appeared to be green eyes. Sasuke recognized her simply because she used to confess to him all the time when they were first starting Junior High. She was also one of the main reasons he tried to make sure to destroy girl's hope.

Nobody would want the annoyingly persistent "love" that she had tried to force Sasuke's way.

After watching the first girl shuffle away with the other, the newcomer trying her best to comfort her rejected friend, Sasuke sighed. He lowered himself onto the bench that had been by the trees. There was at least another twenty minutes before the beginning of the school year assembly began. School hadn't even started yet and he was already getting the feeling that people were more burdensome than anything.

A confession already.

The memory replayed in Sasuke's mind of the first time he had been officially introduced to Hyuuga Hinata. Just as their father had wanted, they'd been close friends. Then in the start of Junior High Fugaku let his plan set in motion. With a single order, he and Hinata had started dating.

"And one day, you two shall do something that'll make your fathers very proud - you shall unite our two families."

This first confession was sure to only be the start of his high school career. His efforts had done nothing to deter the girls from seeing him as some sort of prince. However, no matter how many girls confessed to him, the simple fact would never change.

His choice was only her.

Sasuke shook off the pointless thoughts. School was starting. That was what he needed to focus on. His grades at to be as great as he could possibly get them. It didnt matter he was only a first year. Every year mattered in his climb to the top of his ladder. He couldn't stop until he'd reached the place his father had planned for him.

Within fifteen minutes, the crowd had thinned to a small trickle into the school. Deciding he could go in without having too much trouble, Sasuke pushed off the bench. His bag swung up behind him before settling on his shoulder. He stepped out and merged with the crowd without any trouble, settling beside a girl with strange pink hair.

Despite the annoying start, Sasuke was determined the school year would go exactly as he needed.

So... I really don't care all that much about chapter length for this story XD It'll probably always be in the range of 1000-3000, but doubtfully higher than that.  But yeah.  To all those who are about to freak out on my about ships... JUST TRUST ME! I mean, the problem should already been obvious I would think for the SasuHina ship, but if not... Have fun freaking out XD  Sorry if this wasn't all that entertaining, but these first four chapters are massively set up.  Also, what did you think of how I set up Sasuke in this  AU universe?  I tried to make him as Sasuke-esque as possible while taking into account the alternate universe aspect.

Regardless, vote and let me know what you think in the comment section below.

Final note - thanks to cranerain for the banner :) and dedication to shelbyb2002 for being another reason for me wanting to write a canon pairing fanfiction :)
