Chapter 3

That Morning. . .

Dream woke up slowly, the cool air and comfortable bed that the two had stayed in that night making it almost impossible for the man to actually get up and try and function for the day. It wasn’t every day that Dream got to wake up in a peaceful daze like this, in prison and even before that had left him sleepless and paranoid, always waiting for something to come out of nowhere and attack him.

But one, miles away from the SMP, he felt safe and at peace. Dream turned around to face Punz, green eyes still coated in sleep and quickly woke up when he saw the blond’s side of the bed empty. He sat up, brushing hair out of his face as he blankly stared at where the other should have been. The white haired man quickly pushed the bedding to the side and stood up, looking around the small room for any hints to where they could have gone.

Finally his eyes met a piece of paper that had Punz’s hand writing covered in it. He picked it up and began to read what it said.

Dream,

Don’t freak out, I just went out to explore the town we ended up in. I want to see if we can get any supplies before we leave, and maybe to get some directions or a map to help us. I’ll be back soon after you read this, probably, so just wait for me to return.

-Punz

Dream let a held breath leave his body, reading the words over again before finally setting the piece of paper down where he found it. He brushed his long hair out of his face and relaxed as he took back in the peaceful feeling he had before his freakout. He doesn’t remember the last time he felt this at peace, with no need to be alert and ready for something to go wrong. The window was slightly open, letting the fresh air seep into the room and the tweets of birds fill the silent air.

The man made his way to said window, pushing the curtain to the side as he stared out into the town they had ended up in. It was much bigger than he thought it was, the houses seeming to stretch off into the distance almost impressive to him. It wasn’t often you ran into a town like this, it usually promised gear and other supplies that you needed because of how many traders house it. They really hit the jackpot with this one, and just in time because they were beginning to run out of food and torches.

Dream pulled one of the chairs in the room over to the window, staring out into the sky with a blank stare as he began to run his fingers through his bedridden hair. He couldn’t help the sigh of contentment that left his throat. It really was a peaceful morning. He hoped that many more would be like this. Villagers wandered the streets below, greeting one another as they carried on with their day.

Dream watched them, took in the silence around him, and let his tired body relax. Usually in the mornings they wasted no time sitting around and would pack up camp and be on the move again. It was a nice change for him.

He doesn’t know how much time passed, but eventually, the door to their room opened letting the white-haired man know that Punz was back from their small adventure through the town. Dream turned his head, his green eyes meeting Punz’s own gray. “Hey, you look like you’ve been up for a while now.” Their smile made Dream smile.

“Yeah, I have been.” Punz chuckled, setting down his findings on to the bed before opening the backpacks to store them. “What’s next?” Punz shugs, still stuffing items into the bags.

“Not sure, I guess heading south would be good if we want to get farther away from the SMP. It's in the opposite direction.” Dream raised a brow, turning his whole body to look at the other.

“If we want to get farther away? How far away are we already?” Dream asks. Punz sighs, clasping one of their backpacks closed before answering the white-haired man’s question.

“We’re miles away already, at least that’s what the guy I talked to said anyways, was farther than we thought we were actually. They would really have to be looking for us to find this place. And even then I doubt they would.” Dream hums, standing from his seat and making his way toward Punz. “We could, if we wanted to, stop and settle here.” Dream looks out the hotel window again, seeing the buildings that seemed to carry on for miles. It was beautiful, peaceful even, and somewhere that Dream might be able to see himself living.

“What’s the town like?” Dream’s voice is distant, trying to picture himself living in a place like this.

“It’s a mix of hybrids and normal humans, and it’s actually very beautiful here too. Everyone’s nice and the town seems like it’s never even seen the sight of war before. They knew about the SMP and the wars that happened there, but nothing like that has ever happened out here.” Dream walked closer to the window, staring down towards the roads with his soft green eyes. This place sounded like paradise to him, somewhere that he had dreamed of but never thought could exist. “It’s really beautiful out here, everyone seems so happy.” Dream hums, turning once again to face his companion who was watching the white haired man with calculating gray eyes. “Maybe we should look around?” Dream smiles at the idea.

“Yes, I like that Idea.”

The town was just as beautiful as Punz said it was, the streets busy with citizens and the air filled with an almost warm welcoming feeling. Dream took it all in, walking next to Punz as he spoke about the different shops he visited and the few people they talked to. Dream nodded along, looking around as he watched the town carry on their normal daily routine.

It was peaceful, reminding Dream of back before the wars and conflicts started in their SMP. Before the SMP became nothing but ruined battle lands and the land fed the bloodshed that even Dream had helped with. No one had no blood shed on their hands, no matter how much they would like to deny it. Some had more than others, that was true. Dream believes that he probably had the most, one of the reasons he was locked away.

Dream snapped out of his thoughts when his companion began to talk once again. “There was a farmer too, a lot of people around here have farms, he was the one that gave me the vegetables and fruits I brought back. He was nice, even gave me the apples for cheap after I told him we were trying to get away from something to try and live a more normal life.” Dream smiled, watching a group of kids chase each other around with happy smiles. One was an enderian, something Dream didn’t expect to see as it was so rare to see ender hybrids not in the end.

“It really is peaceful, just as you said.” Punz nodded.

“A good place to settle down in.” Dream looked over, pausing at the man's words, before looking back towards the town. “Settling down to become farmers and live peacefully like this would be everything we ever wanted.”

“Settle down here?” Dream mumbled, eyes blinking as he thought of what that could look like. A small farm, maybe a small store too, happy and never having to worry about what tomorrow would bring. He smiled.

“It would be the perfect place, don’t you think?” Dream hummed in agreement, looking at Punz with a happy smile.

“I think you’re right.” Dream mutters. “Having a farm would be fun, it would give us something to do.” Punz nodded at the idea.

“I talked to someone that said some land was up for grabs at the south end of the town. Maybe we should check it out?” It sounded like a great idea, Dream nodding as the two made their way to the area the other brought up. It was peaceful, walking through the busy streets and seeing how alive this place was. It was just the place Dream wanted and more. Something that Dream once upon a time wanted to make himself. It didn’t take long for them to get to the location Punz was talking about, knowing the blond he had already checked the place out before bringing Dream here. It was beautiful, plenty of space and Dream took in the rundown two story house that was already sitting on the property. It was brown, the paint chipping away and grass overgrown. Nothing that they couldn’t fix. Dream could already picture a small farm, a barn and some livestock filling the right now dead looking area. “It’s pretty nice, if I do say so. We’d fix up the house and make our small farm. Start anew with the building blocks in front of us.” Punz says. Dream couldn’t help but agree.

“And how much is the land? It can’t be for free.” Punz smiles as he turns towards the white-haired man, eyes glistening with a sparkle that Dream knew all too well. Punz was always making plans, something that Dream loved about them.

“Twelve hundred coins. It’s cheap considering how nice the land is.” Dream’s eyes widened, nodding along. “And we’d still have money left over for beginning the farm and any supplies we need to fix the house up.” It was perfect, it made Dream giddy with excitement.

“It’s perfect though.” Dream turned towards the other, still smiling. “I think we should live here. I think we’re done searching, because I think we found what we’ve been looking for.” Punz smiled too.

“I think you’re right.”
