Chapter 45: Far from My Universe

Jungkook then answered the phone as Jimin patiently waited for his lover over on the couch. Of course, Jimin didn't want anything to do with his father after their little fight earlier, so Jimin was completely silent once Jungkook answered the phone; softly panting and breathing to himself after the heated make-out session he had with his stargazer.

“I wonder what that man wants now…” Jimin whispered to himself and locked his eyes onto Jungkook holding the phone up against his own ear to answer. “He'll probably talk Jungkook into working and leaving me here so I can learn my lesson…. I won't be surprised. Father only wants to prove a point…” Jimin said into his own head and then, Jungkook smiled and greeted the elder on the other side of the phone.

“Hello, Mr. Park! How are you? How's everything at the facility?” Asked the young astronomer and at that moment, he noticed Jimin's father reply into a serious tone.

“Jungkook… I need you to listen to me carefully…” Mr. Park said and this alone shifted a change into Jungkook's face. “Please, if Jimin is around… I want you to leave the room so we can talk privately.”

“Yes, Mr. Park.” Jungkook answered and muted the call for a second to glance back at his Jimin. “Mochi, I'll be right back. Stay there.” Jungkook told Jimin and unmuted the call while he made his way down the hall to his own room and locked himself in. With such things feeling so off in Jimin's mind, it made the older sit up and watch the door at the end of the hall close shut and remain locked with Jungkook inside.

“Is it a secret?” Jimin whispered in confusion. Jimin didn't like the fact that Jungkook went off to have a personal conversation with the elder. Even if Jimin didn't end things so well with his father, he still wanted to know. “Will Jungkook tell me?” Asked Jimin before standing up and slowly approaching his own room to reach the bathroom shared in between their own rooms. Next, Jimin pressed his head against Jungkook's bedroom door and began to listen from the bathroom.

“What's the matter, Mr. Park?” Asked the young man and Jimin happened to listen to every word spoken from Jungkook’s mouth, clearly.

“Jungkook… They want to send Jimin back to space… Turns out, he altered the engine of the B248 multiple times when he was trapped there and no one knows how to fix the B248. The Chief even wants to send him off and nobody else. I'm so worried… Everyone here is trying to think of ways Jimin tampered with the engine of the rocket.” Mr. Park told Jungkook and with every word, Jungkook grew silent as if each sentence the elder uttered was tape against the younger’s mouth to keep him shut.

“No… No they can't… I don't want him to go through it again… Please… if anything, let me go. I don't want him to suffer! If he goes up there… I can never forgive myself. It was so hard to build him up and heal him…” Jungkook spoke into the phone as Jimin listened to it all in disbelief.

“They… Want to send me back?” Jimin thought in his own head as his heart weighed down by a ton. “They can't do this to me…they just can't do it! I-I don't want to do this...” Panicked the older within his own mind before he could listen for further information from Jungkook. “But out of everything… I don't want my Jungkook to go…”

“Jungkook, sacrificing yourself like this could leave you as bad as Jimin when he arrived. You've never been up there and what are the odds the B248 cannot be fixed? Going to space isn't as easy as travelling to a different country.” Mr. Park told Jungkook, but the younger grew careless and kept the thought of protecting Jimin as his main priority. “I know… You love him… But doing this could put yourself at risk.”

“I don't care if I am put under risk… I don't want him to go back up there, he'll get too sick and what if his immune system just drops from it all? What if he drops and I won't be able to see him ever again? What if I… never have him in my life ever again? What will I do by there? Kill myself? I know very well it will hurt more to move on and live a life without him than ending it once he leaves me for good.” The younger insisted, believing that Jimin stayed on the couch, but in reality; he sat on the ground in front of the door, tearing up after hearing Jungkook out.

“He would really risk his life for me…” Jimin thought and wiped his own tears with Jungkook’s T-shirt he already had tented over his body. “T-That boy… That beautifully stupid boy..”

“Jungkook, I know he means a lot to you… But, sending you won't make it any better! You need training for six months. Besides, your field is astronomy and you still have yet to get your PhD on that!” Mr. Park continued. The elder knew how much Jungkook loved Dr. Park Jimin, so losing them both was something he hated the most. Mr. Park didn't really seem so open about them before, but he grew to accept it out of everything once he heard Jungkook explain how far he would go for Jimin. “Besides, how will you know what Jimin did on the B248? I know you want to go for it, but… The mission is to rescue the B248 and have it land safely. Not go up there to prove a point.”

“Ah… You're right..” Admitted the young man and took a solid second to think to himself. “What if… I get him to explain everything he did? Therefore, he won't suspect a thing!”

“Jungkook… Are you really sure you want to do this? Going to space is very scary and it takes a lot of guts. The silence could drive you nuts, the endless darkness will have your eyes longing for a bright light outside your rocket and of course, the space food isn't that great.”

“I want to do this for him… All for him.” Jungkook volunteered and glanced back at the bedroom door leading to the bathroom and then focused onto the cold ground if his room. “I'll get him to talk… Thank you for telling me, Mr. Park.”

“Jungkook, I'm worried… I'm pretty sure Jimin would feel the same way about you going up there for the first time.”

“Soon, he'll understand.” Jungkook concluded the conversation and let out a sigh. “I'll hang up now, good bye. I'll call you if anything else happens.”

“Alright, Jungkook… If you really mean this, come to work starting tomorrow and if you want, you can drop Jimin off at the care unit. Just don't tell Jimin about this, or else he'll try to do it himself. When you're coming to work tomorrow, just say you wanted to go back because you've been called in. Alright? Good.” Advised the older man. With that, he hung up after the warning as Jungkook let out a sharp exhale. He didn't know what he got himself into, but it was for the sake of his lover. On the other hand, this was putting himself in danger by going off to space for the first time on his own while Jimin had no other way to stop this. He loved Jungkook too much to let him put himself on the line before the older.

"I need to go talk to Jimin… Tell him I have work tomorrow and that's as far as I will go.” Jungkook said to himself. Meanwhile, Jimin quickly dried his own tears and dashed out of the bathroom to show that he wasn't sitting there with his head pressed against the door; poking his nose into many things the young man told him not to do. Deep down, Jimin didn't want Jungkook to do this, he wanted to do it himself but knew well he couldn't tell Jungkook he heard everything. It was the worse feeling ever, knowing well that Jungkook was going out to space; gave Jimin tears and anxiety weighing his emotions drastically.

“How could he be so stupid? He should leave it to the experienced astronauts! He has never been out there! Jungkook doesn't know how scary it is and he never been to space before! That idiot…” Jimin hissed to himself in his own mind. On the inside, he was upset and worried about his lover, while on the outside, the true emotion that showed was his sad face and endless tears. Jimin dropped onto the couch of the living room and just then, he heard his Jungkook open the door from his bedroom and make his way down to Jimin. “Oh fuck… he's coming!” Cursed the older in his head and in seconds, Jungkook already reached the living room.

“Mochi, they are calling me back to work, so you have a choice to stay here, or come with me. You'll be at the care unit all day.” The young man then locked eyes with Jimin almost instantly and he was quick to catch the tears streaming down Jimin's pale face. “Mochi… What's wrong? Why are you crying?”

“I-I…” Jimin grew silent right after; holding his breath and hesitating on saying what he felt inside. He just knew it wasn't right to go against Jungkook and say he was eavesdropping the whole conversation enough to catch a gist of the issue going around. “I… just thought of something really… sad..” Lied the older man and that made Jungkook laugh to himself as he leaned in and sat down next to his lover.

            “What was it, my love?”

“I thought of The Little Prince and I began to cry because… because… He leaves his rose since he didn't know how to love and she still wanted him. T-Then he comes back to see that he didn't tend to his rose and neglected taking care of her… He left her to suffer.” Jimin lied to Jungkook once again. Yet, this alone seemed very convincing towards the younger.

“Oh, Mochi! You're so sweet and innocent in the mind.” Jungkook teased and pulled his lover closer to his own body. “Ah, so… Do you want to go back to the facility with me tomorrow?” Questioned the young man, but Jimin declined almost instantly.

“No… I want to stay here… Maybe, I can try being alone, Jungkook…” Jimin recommended the idea to his boyfriend, but Jungkook was left unsure. The astronaut refused to return to the facility where he knew he was wanted to return to the stars. At times, he just wished to run away with the young man to avoid responsibilities.. However, Jimin began to realize that this alone didn't make him any different than The Little Prince.

“Baby, are you sure? I don't want you to be scared… Should I have Taehyung here with you or Namjoon?” The younger asked as Jimin sighed and looked down. He wanted to be alone, on the other hand, he knew how scary that could be to him as well. “I'll get Taehyung to be here with you…”

“...Perfect…” Jungkook noted Jimin's glum tone to his own response and this made Jungkook quickly lean over and and hug Jimin against his body once more.

“What's with the frown, Jimin? I'll be back before you know it! I promise.” Jungkook continued and stroked Jimin's hair back after taking off the man's beanie over his silk hair. Jimin felt like these lies he told Jungkook were so believable, only because Jungkook knew Jimin only spoke of the truth with him. Never did Jungkook think that Jimin would ever lie to him like this; so, the reason of it along with the upsetting news of Jungkook hiding the real issue from Jimin, just made the older feel like he stretched further from Jungkook's universe little by little while they kept in their own secrets to themselves.
