Maisie and Dylan went to help Marnie with the Boo Crew, Kimberly was the one who came up with the term, which involved looking over her class schedule.
"Oh, I'll let you know when Aggie's found a place for us to meet," Marnie told the crew. "But in the meantime, if you have any problems, just find me, Maisie, or Dylan, okay?"
"I'm sorry, but Dylan is jumping off this welcome wagon," Dylan replied. "AP Calculus starts in two minutes."
"I have AP Calculus too," Natalie told Dylan. She looked at her schedule, "All my classes are AP."
Cassie grinned and pointed at Natalie or Dylan, "Geek."
"I know," Marnie said. "He's always been kind of a..." Cassie shook her head but pointed at Natalie." Oh, you mean her?" Cassie nodded.
"AP Art?" asked Natalie.
"Wow," Marnie said. "Some things are really universal."
"Dylan, you should show Cassie to AP Calculus," Maisie said.
"And the rest of you follow us," Marnie told the Boo Crew. "Come on."
Dylan and Natalie walked off and the rest went down the hallway.
Marnie spotted one of the Halloween Townies. She spoke to the guy, "Hey, you've got to keep up." She yanked something down, "And lose the tail." The guy's backpack fell down.
"What are you?" asked the guy. "Some kind of power-mad hall monitor?"
"I saw your ta – uh, shirt hanging," Marnie explained as she helped him gather his things. "I'm sorry."
"Um, I'm Cody," the guy said, reaching for a handshake. "It's my first day."
"Hi," Marnie said. "I'm Marnie."
Then the attraction came from both Cody and Marnie, so Maisie had to step away from them.
Ethan followed, "Are you okay?"
Maisie considered it, "As an empath—"
"I get it," Ethan replied. "My mom was an empath too. I understand the need to get away."
Maisie nodded, glad that someone got it, but maybe this guy was trying to throw her off by acting nice to her; to try and get her to let her guard down.
"Can I join your little tour group?" asked Cody, looking at the Boo Crew.
"Uh, no," Marnie said, quickly. She got up, "It's not a tour group. It's, uh, – it's my senior project. I'm helping a group of exchange students find their way."
"So, I'll, uh, see you around, then," Cody replied.
"Yeah," Marnie replied. "I'm sure. Uh, it's not a very big school, so..."
At least Cody was step-up from Kal.
Thankfully the bell rang, giving everyone a break from this awkward exchange.
"Right," Cody replied and walked away.
"So, let's open our books to Chapter One," Aggie told the class.
"What is she talking about?" a guy said to his tablemate, "Has she ever taught in her life?" They were snickering over Aggie.
Maisie thought it was rich coming from a guy who looked like he wasn't a high school student.
"Mr. Miller," Aggie said to 'Miller', "If I could have your attention, please." The two were still snickering over Aggie. "Oh," She went to the table, "And I so hoped we could all be friends." She patted Miller's shoulder, "I must warn you, I have quite a little temper."
Suddenly Miller jerked back, making horrified sounds, making everyone look at him, like he was some sort of idiot who got scared by a little old woman for no reason.
Maisie smirked at Aggie, knowing that she used magic to somehow terrify Miller.
"So, Chapter One," Aggie told him, patting his shoulder again.
Miller hurriedly turned to a chapter in his textbook.
Marnie walked into the classroom and whispered, "Sorry I'm late," to Aggie. She went to sit down next to Cody.
Maisie should've gone to sit next to Cody, but she instead chose to sit next to these two dimwits.
"So, now, we're going to start our experiment," Aggie said. "Let's get our goggles on."
The class put on their goggles.
"If we mix together the sulfur with the iron ore it should bring a puff of smoke," Aggie said, dropping a piece of iron ore in the beaker, creating a sickly green puff of smoke. Then a parrot appeared, shocking the class.
Maisie, however, was more horrified than shocked at the display of magic.
"Grandma," Marnie said, going to Aggie.
"She's a former a magician," Maisie said to the class, that being the first thing she can think of that at least made some sort of sense.
"Uh, yes," Aggie agreed. "I thought it would be a fun little way to welcome you."
Maisie's classmates seemed to be thinking it over and then settled on how that made sense, so there was a small round of applause for the 'magic' trick, then they went to work.
Maisie glanced at Marnie and Aggie. It seemed like she had found them a meeting place for the Boo Crew.
Marnie went back to the table.
"So, no other parrots," Aggie said. "Well, I see you've all managed your smoke. Now, who can tell me why these elements reacted the way they did. Why you got smoke and not a parrot?"
After class was done, Marnie led Maisie to a locker where the meeting place was.
When Marnie opened the locker, it was empty, and Maisie peered over her shoulder, getting the weird feeling that they were being watched.
Then Marnie was yanked through the locker, with the help of magic, and Maisie was second.
