Chapter 2
"Kate, would you like eggs with your smørrebrød?" Liselotte asks as I look at what she's doing.
Smor, what? "Are you making sandwiches?" I asked, as she came out the backdoor into her garden and put a bunch of bread, and meat onto the table.
"This is rye bread, almost like a sandwich but we eat it like this." She said, as I watched her put toppings onto her bread, and then eat it.
I mirror her and then start adding food on top, as the birds in the trees sing, and the smell of the ocean invades my nose.
"I need to head into town for some things, do you want to come with me or would you like to stay?" Liselotte asks as I shrug.
"Stay, if that's okay." I said, and she laughed.
"Of course." She said, "If you pack your swimsuit, the beach is only a six-minute walk from here."
"And before I go, write down anything you need, like shampoo or a toothbrush and I'll get it while in town." She said smiling, as I bit into my bread.
Surprisingly, I didn't hate it, it was nice.
"Good right?" She grinned as I sheepishly nodded my head and watched her stand up.
"You have my number, I shouldn't be long but if you decide to head out, just send me a text so I know you didn't run back to England." She said, jokingly as I nodded my head.
I watched her kiss Lilla, the giant German shepherd on the head and then wave to me before grabbing her bag and then walking back into her house to grab her car keys, and then leave.
I heard the front door open, and then close, and just like that, I was on my own in my aunt's house, who I had only just met three hours ago.
It was warm, too warm, and the thought of going to the beach made me feel suddenly self-conscious.
There was no way I was going to the beach, knowing that the boys I met an hour ago would be there, and would see me in a bathing suit.
Yet, having a walk around might not be a bad idea; sitting here and feeling sorry for myself all summer would beat sitting here.
I eat my food, and then clean up the outdoor table and check myself in the mirror before grabbing the spare key Liselotte left me, then text her I will be heading out.

I spent the past fifteen minutes walking around the streets, and looking through the windows of shops before I reached the beach.
The beach was surprisingly not full of people, but only about fifty, to sixty people either sunbathing, in the water, or kicking a ball on the sand.
I didn't have to look long to find the three guys from this morning on the beach, as they were with a group of other guys and girls, all in their swimsuits and laughing loudly.
Søren was juggling a football by himself near his friends while holding a beer bottle in his hand while his other two friends lay on their towels, talking to some girls.
Damn, it must be nice, I had to admit.
It felt awkward just watching them from afar, so I kept walking along the edge of the beach to where I saw an ice cream stand by the entrance to the beach.
It was hot, and I felt sticky, and stupidly I had left without putting suncream on, so after I had an ice cream, I decided that I should just head back, and unpack my things.
Paying for my ice cream, I moved past others in line and then looked for somewhere in the shade to sit, but as I was looking around, I bumped into someone, and dropped my ice cream.
I was starting to regret buying an ice cream now, why did this happen to me?
I bend down to pick up my now newly bought, melting ice cream off the floor. "Sorry, I-"
"Kate?" I hear my name, and a familiar voice, making me look up.
Once I saw him, I felt completely embarrassed, not because I had just walked into him, and dropped my ice cream, but because he wasn't alone.
"Oh shit, et sekund..." (Oh shit, one second) Søren grabbed a few napkins from the nearest table and then bent down to help clean the ice cream from the floor.
"I'm sorry I wasn't looking where I was going." He apologizes as I look up at him from my eyelashes, to see he was looking at me, smiling sheepishly.
"Let me buy you another one." He offered, as I stood up and put my now ruined ice cream in the bin.
My eyes widen as I ignore the look his friends are giving me, standing in line to buy ice cream.
"Søren, hvad vil du have?" (Søren, what will you have?) A girl with long brown hair asked him.
"To blød is." (A soft ice) He said to her, then started to look around before his eyes met mine.
"Are you here by yourself?" He asked, and I nodded my head.
"I was just heading back." I said awkwardly, avoiding his bright green eyes as he stared at me.
"Bye." I said, just wanting to pretend like none of this ever happened, and I didn't just embarrass myself in front of him and his good-looking friend.
"Wait up, Kate!" I heard my name as I reached the footpath, a minute away from the ice cream stall.
Søren had run up to me, holding two ice creams in his hands, holding one out to me as I stared at it confused.
"Because you dropped yours because of me." He said as he handed a soft ice to me.
"I'd feel pretty shit if I didn't at least do this much."
I didn't know what to say, he was being nice, even though I wasn't looking where I was going and I dropped my ice cream, not him.
"I should head back." He smiles handsomely, then holds up his ice cream.
"Try not to drop it this time."
I watched as he jogged back to his friends, the girl with the long brown hair smiling once he reached her and he said something to her.
She was beautiful, if not gorgeous, with tan skin, blue eyes, and curled long brown hair, and as much as I tried to deny it, I was jealous of how great she looked in her bikini.
Compared to her, I was pale, with shoulder-length hair, and not as tall as her.
Together, she and Søren looked like the perfect couple, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were already dating.
Well, it was none of my business, I wasn't going to be here long enough to care, as nice as he was just now, I knew catching feelings for a guy like that was pointless.
Some things are just the way they are, I knew that better than anyone, otherwise, I wouldn't be here right now.
Whatever, I should probably head back before Liselotte starts to worry.
This summer I was going to spend as much time as possible by myself, and not get involved with anyone who had girls clinging off every limb of their body, I was in no desperate need to have drama this summer.
Even if he was nice to me, I didn't need friends in England, and I don't need friends in Denmark.
