16. Arugments
How am I hearing this song for the first time now?!?! 😍
_______
As we continued to shop I felt an uneasy set of eyes on me making me stumble around nervously. I spotted Callie taking a selfie with Keko. Seriously? In the middle of walking? I cleared my throat. Callie plainly ignored my obvious attempts to get her attention. "Callie?" I spoke up for the third time. She rolled her eyes to glare at me. When she realized who I was her features soften.
"Oh, Carls. What's up?" She asked. I bit my lip, I needed to talk to my friend NOW. "Uh can we talk in private please?" I asked nervous. I was usually so comfortable around Callie but something was off. I couldn't put my finger on it. "No." Keko answered for her before grabbing Callie's hand and dragging her away. Callie sent me an apologetic smile. A smile that told me...I was losing my best friend. I walked over to say hi to Jake.
Unlike the others he actually smiled and didn't walk away. I felt realived when he turned my way. "Yo." He grinned, flashing a pair of white pearly teeth. "Do you know where we are going next?" I asked. Looking at all these clothe's reminded me I would look ugly in each one. "I think we are going to a cafe in a few." Jake notified me. I nodded as I rocked back and fourth on my heels. "Hey you didn't pick out any clothes. You don't like shopping?" He asked.
I shook my head. "Not anymore." The voice in my head said. I sent him a sad smile. "Why, I'm sure you would look beautiful." He grinned. "Not really." I mumbled. Jake cleared his throat, clearly ignoring my small comment. Which I was thankful for. "You seem like a really cool guy." I complemented him. "Thanks, I don't try." He joked. The thought of Keko and Blake flashed through my mind. It wasn't really my business.
I shouldn't speak up.
Right?
"I think the girls are ready to pay." Jake gestured towards the girl's all in a line near a cash register. As we approched them I asked, "So you don't want to buy anything?" He only answered with a shake of his head. "Nah." I looked back at the girls to see Callie glaring daggers at me. I sent her a small waves but she just turned around to talk to Kimmy who is now picking at the candy section. "
Woah seems like your popular." Jake joked when we finally reached the girls. I only let out a small exagerated smile and rolled my eyes. "So far from the truth." I mumbled. After the girls payed for thier clothes Keko came over and dragged Jake away from me, eyeing me suspiciously. "Hate ya too!" The voice in my mind says making me bite back a smile. We headed towards the small café located in the mall.
I looked around as shoppers walked holding bags of newly bought items in thier arms. We all sat down in a big booth.
The girls chatted as Jake and Keko flirted with each other. I tried multiple times to join thier conversations to only be shot down. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I eavesdropped on the girl on the phone in the next booth over. Sorry, I'm nosy. "No you are." She said grinning as she spoke on the phone. It seemed pretty obvious by her tone she was speaking to a boyfriend.
Maybe doing one of those "Your cuter" things that couples do. I wished someone would stay on the phone and talk to me like that. "No one is ever going to." Said that small agnorant voice. "I know." I accidently said outloud. The girl from the other booth looked at me puzzles for a quick second. She narrowed her eyes as i gave her a shy smile. She got up and left in a hurry. "You scare people away." I grummbled nervously.
A lady with brown short hair cut into a bob wearing a tan uniform and an apron came over. "Im Jenise." She said in am overly welcoming voice. "Welcome to Brawler Café, Are you all ready to order?" After Kimmy briefly said yes everybody began to order. I looked around confused. I was zoned out, I never even checked out the menu! Flustered I picked up a menu. I spotted in the middle of the table. I chose the first thing on the menu.
"What can I get you hun?" Jenise asked me. I realized everyone else had ordered. "Chilly fries and water?" I asked. She smiled and nodded before leaving. "You know that goes straight to your thighs!" Riley said in awe. She looked at me as if I where some dare devil. "I-uh." I stammered. "She doesn't care." Keko interupted. At this moment I knew a certain "Hated specimen' was brewing a trouble. "Fat girls like her don't really care, do they Carls?" Jake nudged Keko with a scowl.
Callie looked back at me when I pleaded with my eyes for help. "She doesn't speak eye language Scarlet." I reminded myself. Callie tilted her head, almost as if she was trying to look at me from a new perspective. I felt... unwanted. I didn't belong here. I fisted my hands under the table, frustrated. Moments like these I wish I had keys to a tank at hand. "I actually don't care 'Keko'." I emphesised her name.
"I also don't give a damn about your stupid opinion. So if you could please keep quiet for one damn minute of your life..." My voice trailed off as the waiter slowly approached us with our food. She seemed nervous. I bit my lip. I should never speak up, I always do something wrong. Callie's eyes narrowed as I saw Kimmy's eyes light up with pure amusment. Keko's lips where pressed into a thin line. "I didn't even say much." I thought.
I held back the urge to apologize. Jake cleared his throat. "Look Scarlet. Keko can be a bit harsh sometimes but I honestly don't want to see you too fight...so er.." He seemed lost from words. But I knew what he meant. He wanted me to apologize. He wanted me to FREAKING STOP WHAT HIS GIRLFRIEND STARTED. "Damn Jake, you are a great boyfriend, Wow. Too bad Keko isn't as good as a girlfriend to you." I spat.
He looked at me confused. Keko's eyes widened. "What are you talking about?" Jake stuttered, clearly nervous. "Last week? Your girlfriend was tongue choking another guy!" As soon as the words left my mouth I immediately regretted it. Jakes face fell. His expresion wasn't enraged like I imagined. It was sad. His eyes that held humor grew into puppy dog eyes as he pleaded for this to be a sick joke. Keko looked at me.
Oh she was pissed off. And for the first time in my life, I actually feared for my life.
"You Pig!" Someone shouted. I scanned for the source of the voice.
Suprised, to look up at my best friend.
My jaw dripped to the ground. My best friend, called me a pig? "C-Callie?" I was lost. She stood up arpubtly and grabbed my hand harshly, Dragging me out of the café. I tried to pull my hand back but she kept her grip on my arm. I called out her name again. "Shut up Sl*t." She murmured. MY mouth stayed agap.
Speechless.
Did I deserve this? Was I that wrong. But he deserved to know. Suddenly Callie jerked to a stop. Lashing back to face me. "Why?" She screamed. She actually screamed. "I don't-" she cut in. "Why do you have to ruin everything?" She was yelling. "He deserved to know!" I argued back, my voice slowly rising along with my temper.
"But Keko would have told him!"
"When? Huh?"
She seemed to mix up her words before replying, "Someday!" I could only roll my eyes at my best frien- I mean, Callie's defensive words. "What is wrong with you?" She asked, disgusted blaring from her tone. "Wrong with me?" I laughed. "What's wrong with you? You completely IGNORED me today, even my attempts to freaking speak to you. I tried to blend in but you know I'm nothing like them! You are even taking her side!" I spoke, visibily pissed.
"Well maybe you just aren't interesting enough! Hell, Even your clothes look like trash. I wish I never met your stupid ass! Ugly B*tch!" She screamed. I could technically see the steam coming out of her ears.
"Never met you."
Her words echoed through my head. "I thought you were diffrent." I said. I couldn't even look at her anymore. I wouldn't know who I was looking at. There was a short silence. A painful silence as we both thought about things.
My eyes stayed glued to the concrete sidewalk.
"Well you where wrong."
Those where her final words before she stormed off. Her heels beating against the concrete grounds. And she left me.
"There goes another one." The voice sneered.
