Chapter 16: A slice of DnD
"Thanks for letting me use your house to host my game, Miu," Ryoma smiled at Miu
"It's no problem, happy I could help!" Miu smiled back, setting bowls of snacks on the table
"Yay! Sugar!" Maki cheered as she tucked into the sugary popcorn
"Don't eat too much sugar now," Kaito told her
"You too Himiko," Tenko said to Himiko who was stuffing her face with sugar
"So, why did you gather us up at Miu's house, Ryoma?" Tori asked him
"I wanted us to play a game together as friends, that all!" Ryoma grinned
"What kind of game are you referring to exactly?" Angie asked, "I'm just wondering if I really want to be dragged into what you guys do,"
"Well I'm glad you asked," Ryoma slammed a game box on the table, "I'm talking about Dungeons and Dragons!"
"Oh, so that was the game you really wanted Tenko and I to play," Tori said
"Seriously? Isn't that a nerds' game?" Gonta
"Well that is a stereotype but I swear it's a great game!" Ryoma promised, opening the box, "So, let's play!"
"Does anyone actually know how to play Dungeons and Dragons?" Ryoma asked everyone as he set things out
"I've heard it plenty times before but I haven't actually played it," Miu replied as she set down a crepe cake on the table
"Wow, this is great Miu," Kirumi said, taking a bite out of her slice
"I can say that it's even better than the pastries I'm served at home," Rantaro told her
"This is just like the anime cakes I see in anime!" Tsumugi squealed
"If I tried making this, it would be called 'crap cake'," Kokichi chuckled at his own joke
"Oh thank you, its just that I really enjoy baking," Miu admitted, "It keeps me busy and produces great results!"
"Even I have to admit, her skills are good," Gonta said, "It's not too sickly sweet and its the right amount of moist,"
"Woah, who knew Gonta knows the right texture to a cake!" Kokichi teased
"Shut the fuck up before this cake goes right in your face!"
"Please don't start this right now in Iruma's living room," Tsuki looked at them, eating chunks of mango out of one of the bowls
"Yes ma'am," Kokichi saluted in an exaggerated way as Tsuki glared at him, "What? I don't want to be strangled to death by you,"
"I don't think anyone does..." Tori said
"Are we really playing this game?" Gonta asked as everyone gathered around in a circle
"Yes! I've actually been dying to play this with you!" Ryoma said, "So, what role do you want to have? I'll be the GM, you guys can choose what you want,"
"I think a Thief would be suitable for me," Kokichi chuckled
"Don't remind me of that Nintendo Switch fiasco," Angie groaned
"I'm gonna take the Bard," Kirumi smiled, "For obvious reasons,"
"I'm going to be a Wizard!" Himiko cheered, "I'm going to blast all our enemies,"
"I'm taking the Barbarian," Gonta decided, "It's gonna be so wild,"
"I'll be Fighter," Kaito said
"Yeah, me too," Korekiyo agreed
"Ranger," Tsuki said, "I'll let my wolf tear you apart if you annoy me,"
"I think I'll be an Immolator," Kaede said, "I'll just burn you alive,"
"I'm... going to be a Druid," Tenko said
"I'll just going to be a Rogue," Angie said
"I'm going to go on the defensive side and be a Cleric," Miu said
"Oh! I'm going to be a Warlock!" Tori decided
"I guess I'll just be a Paladin," Rantaro said
"I'll be a Sorcerer! Then I can do magic like in anime!" Tsumugi squealed
"I wanna be a Sorcerer too! I wanna do magic too!" Maki chimed in
"Hmmm, I guess I'll take the Paladin too," Shuichi said, "Too bad there isn't anything got to do with Danganronpa here,"
"I think I'll be a Warlock too," Kiibo said
"Great! This is amazing!" Ryoma grinned, "We're gonna have so much fun!"
"Yeah... we're the ones who are gonna decide that," Kaito told him
"How about for now, you just tell us how we play this game?" Kirumi suggested
"Right! So Dungeons and Dragons is an RPG game that only requires your imagination and a couple of dice," Ryoma explained, "When you want your character to do something, we roll a dice to see what the outcome is. I usually roll a D12 for it. If you get 6 or below, its a total fail. If you get 7-9, its a partial success meaning that you get what you want but there's a little consequence to it. And if you get 10 and above, its a full success,"
"So basically our lives depend on a small die?" Rantaro asked, "Interesting,"
"I know right! Because I'm GM, basically Game Master, I get to try and kill you all!" Ryoma smiled
"Sounds fun..." Angie said
"So, now that you all formed a pretty great group, you set out on your journey to find the Golden Apples!" Ryoma started the adventure
"Are these apples actually made of gold?" Kaede asked
"Does it matter?" Gonta asked her
"I'm just saying!"
"Oh! I wanna have a golden apple!" Maki said
"You do realise it's not real gold," Rantaro told her
"Just spray paint an apple gold and she won't even notice a difference," Kokichi smirked
"You guys are so stupid. The concept of the Golden Apples comes fro Greek Mythology," Angie said, "During the wedding of Zeus and Hera, Gaia gave her a wedding gift of a tree of golden apples which later heroes would-"
"No one cares!" Kokichi yelled at her
"Shut it you purple gremlin!" Angie snapped back
"I haven't even got to the fight scenes," Ryoma said
"Just keep going, you're doing great," Kirumi told him
"So, while you're all on your way down the path, 20 trolls appear in front of you guys. They all have 20HP each," Ryoma said
"Holy shit! That's a shit ton of enemies," Kaito said
"Why are there so many of them?" Tori asked him
"Well what am I supposed to say? There's 17 of you guys," Ryoma shrugged
"Alright, I think I'll grow some vines and use them to strangle two of them," Tenko said
"Go on and roll for it then,"
"Um, its 7,"
"Plus strength?"
"That's plus two so 9,"
"Partial success! Alright, so your vines strangle two of the trolls. You successfully strangle one of them to death but you fail to kill the other one. He's now extremely pissed," Ryoma told her
"I roll to beat the little shit up!" Gonta shouted
"Go ahead," Ryoma passed him the die
"Shit..." Gonta said as he rolled a 3
"Well then. You charge for a troll but you slip and run right into Tenko, making the thorns on the vines to stab you right in the thigh," Ryoma smiled at him, "Minus two hit points!"
"You little fucker..."
"Hey hey hey! No fighting in here!" Miu pushed her arms out so she could separate the two boys, "This is a game remember? We're supposed to have fun as friends so don't ruin it! It's my house so it's also my rules,"
"Damn girl," Kokichi smiled, "That was good,"
"You think so?" Miu asked, sitting back down
"Yeah! You're gaining your confidence!" Maki cheered
"You know what? I'll give you a free pass to do anything you want to the trolls," Ryoma said
"Alright then, I'll cast a spell take out a few of them,"
"Gotcha! Because it's an automatic full success, you cast your spell and it successfully takes out a few of your enemies. But your deity does not revoke the spell so you may cast it again if you want," Ryoma explained
"Can I?"
"Sure thing!"
"We're gonna be here for a while, aren't we?" Kokichi sighed
"Jealous, aren't you?" Tsumugi smirked at him before nudging Kirumi, "You too Kirumi,"
"That's stupid," Kirumi tried laughing it off
"Yeah! No way I'm jealous! It's just Miu talking to Ryoma, that's all," Kokichi insisted
"Yeah, sure," Tsumugi laughed but it was obvious she didn't believe them
"Well anyways, it's good for the both of them to interact and have fun," Kirumi smiled
"Yeah. This evening is dedicated for them," Kokichi smiled with her
