Self diagnosing mental disorders
If you can't afford to go to a doctor and get yourself tested/diagnosed, I sympathize with you, I really do. But that still doesn't make self diagnosing right
Doctors go to college for a reason. They spend years studying and working for a reason. If figuring out that you have a disorder was really as simple as taking some online tests and doing a bit of research, why would this be necessary for them? Because they want to make sure they know what they're talking about
Let's say you self diagnose with adhd. And you go online, and someone asks you how you knew you had adhd. Instead of telling them about your assessment or what your doctor told you, you give them a bunch of misinformation. So now that person falsely believes they have adhd and thinks it's okay to self diagnose. We've had one too many friends say they thought it's okay to self diagnose just because their friend said it was. And we need to stop this
Now, that's not to say self diagnosing people are always wrong. If you've self diagnosed and turned out to be right, more power to you. That's great! However, it's when you actually claim to have the disorder before getting diagnosed that a problem occurs. A one in fifty chance isn't worth taking. Yes, there is a chance. But there's a greater risk. And if you take that risk, you could put so many lives in danger
