Chapter One - First Day

The Omega - Jamilton / Omegaverse AU / Transgender!Alex / High School AU

Chapter One. Alexander's POV.

Screams echo through the house, bouncing off the walls and getting louder by each passing second. The pain is excruciating, on any other day I would have just taken the beating and let it happen. But today, my elder Beta brother was beyond enraged. He was so drunk, I thought he wouldn't notice me attempting to sneak extra food to myself. Oh, how wrong I was.

With every kick and hit that is delivered to my small, aching body as my brother gets out his pent up anger towards me, I scream and cry. Begging, for him to stop. Not that he would. He's stopped caring for me long, long ago.

Once James finishes beating me bloody and storms off to some other bar where he'll drink himself sick, it takes hours for me to finally push myself up after the attack. Even though the beating only lasted an hour, I couldn't take a breath without feeling my ribs shift with a sickening crack. So I just sat there. Waiting for the darkness to consume me and let myself fall into a deep sleep.

But I couldn't.

Too many thoughts and questions filled my head. Why did it matter if I took a bread roll from the Kitchen? Where was James right now? What if he came back while I was unconscious, and defenseless? When is he going to come back? How much longer do I have, until I have to endure that again?

Why would I even try to get up, when I would just get pushed down again..?

I jump at the sound of the alarm blaring from my phone, which is sitting on the pillow beside my head. I clutch the blanket that was covering the lower half of my body as fear is pumped through my veins. My entire chest was wrapped in some ace bandaging and medical wrap.

I wrapped an arm around my stomach and wheezed. The wounds were only a few weeks old, yet the boot print bruises were still embedded into my skin. But they were covered from all of the medical wrap.

I turned on my side, gently, to retrieve my phone from my right side. I always set an alarm for six AM the night before I go to sleep. If I could even sleep, I was usually kept up by my thoughts during the night.

The alarm is set so I can get up early enough to prepare myself for my day. But today was different, today was my first day of ninth grade.

Meaning I have to hurry to get ready for school and then make James' breakfast before he wakes up so I could get out early enough to avoid his usual morning attitude.

Most of my morning routine is made up of having to change the bandages that cover my chest and arms. I usually have to change the bandages on my wrist daily, while the wraps on my abdomen get changed every three days.

I take baths - since it's far too difficult and painful to stand while showering - before I change the medical wraps. It's also one of the only times the ace bandaging is off of my upper chest. Even though I don't like the ace bandaging being removed from my upper chest because it makes me feel like a girl, I know that having it on at all times is really bad for me. But, since I took my shower yesterday, I don't have to worry about going through the hassle of changing the wraps.

Since it was still warm out, it being only the beginning of September. I decided on only wearing a thin black sweater - to cover my wrists. And to match the sweater, I also put on some skinny jeans that I own along with my two year old converse jacket that's a little small on me. But being an Omega, and malnourished, I'm not very large.

Small and petite are both words to describe me. Disgusting and ugly are others...

As I hurried to get dressed, I stopped by my bedside dresser to take my morning Supplements and apply my Scent Blockers to my neck.

James thinks that it would be better if people didn't know I was an Omega. Since it was highly looked down upon by society and James didn't want people knowing that he was related to an Omega.

These Supplements are to dull down my scent and push away most of my Omegan urges I suppose.

I also use Scent Blockers, which - when I apply - completely get rid of my scent. Making it more like a Betas then the usual sweet and tangy Omega scent. I've been using these, along with Supplements, every day since I've moved to America. Which hasn't been that long - only about a year - but I never had access to them back on Nevis.

After I was done with my morning routine, I grabbed my pre-packed backpack and hurried downstairs. I set my bag down beside the counter once I had made my way to the kitchen.

It was about six-fortyish now and I didn't have very long until James emerged from his room, and by this point, he was always unpredictable.

James Junior Hamilton-Faucette was his full name. He was named after 'our' father. He was also born a Beta. Like our mother. And in his mind, that meant he was above all Omegas but below all Alphas. Just like most of society thinks.

He's about twenty-three years old while I'm only thirteen.

Our mother had gotten pregnant with him when she was only nineteen years old, our father being the Alpha he was, knew that he would have to marry her. Or be shunned from society.

And because of the more or less, forced marriage, our parents both suffered greatly. Stuck in a deep depression, James' father turned to alcohol to try and numb his pain. While our mother tried desperately to earn his love.

But it never worked. Our parents both openly cheated on one another. James Senior, would be gone for days at a time, leaving James Junior to fend for himself usually. After years of our mother cheating on her own husband as a way to spite him, one day, she had ended up pregnant.

And that's when I was born. I never knew who my true father was, but the man that my mother married was so repulsed by the idea of raising me as his Omegan daughter, that he packed his bags and left before I was even a year old. My mother was heartbroken by this that she held it against me all my life. I grew up knowing that I was the reason why our family fell apart.

James took on our mother's beliefs and had a deep hatred towards me as well. I tried to make up for what I had done, but my mother could barely even look at me - that being, if she was ever home. Because it didn't take long into my life that she had already began acting like James' father had.

She could be found drinking when she was home, and out sleeping with any man that would want her when she wasn't. And when she was gone, James was in charge of me.

He would make me do all the chores, clean the entire house, and cook all of the meals. But not for us, for him. I barely received food when I lived back on Nevis.

And once James turned eighteen he had decided that he was going to leave to America and not come back. Not even saying goodbye. This had hit mother very strongly. She felt betrayed by James, saying he was just like his father.

My time spent with my mother before her passing wasn't much better then when James used to live with us. She seemed to actually get worse. I would do my best to try and make her stay home. Make her stop drinking. But nothing ever worked.

I was barely even twelve when I found her lying dead on the bathroom floor. She had died from alcohol poisoning. I had spent two days alone in that house sitting outside the bathroom, with my mother's dead body only feet from me. Not knowing what to do, or who to even go to.

It was one of her many boyfriends who found me and took me to child services where they contacted James - who I found out, lived in New York of America.

When I finished James' breakfast which was only a simple plate of a piece of toast and some eggs, I left it on the counter near the sink and turned on the coffee pot. I looked towards the clock on the stove. In blinking, red numbers read seven-twenty AM. I knew he would be awake any moment now, so I took this as my chance to hurry out of the house.

By the time I had my backpack and shoes - tied and on, I could hear James starting to stir upstairs. I hurried towards the door and slipped on my shoes. An old pair of sneakers, but they still fit.

Once I was successfully out of the house, I didn't look back as I made my way down the sidewalk. Looking down at the ground as I made the short twenty minute walk to my new school. We only lived two blocks from it so it didn't take me too long to get there. And I would still be early.

The courtyard of the school was filled with plant life and flowers. There was also benches where people could sit while they waited for the school doors to open. And since it was still early, I decided to just sit down for a bit until the bell rang at seven-thirty.

There were some other students here as well. Just clustered up groups of Betas and a few Alphas. Not surprising that the Alphas would tend to keep to themselves though. They think they're just all that, due to being born into the pleasantries of being an Alpha.

I don't think I've ever really spoken to an Alpha before. I never attended public school back on Nevis. And when I moved to America, I was put into an all Beta school for only a few months before summer break started.

I didn't really interact with other students unless I had to for a project of sorts. I just never knew what to say to them. All I could think about while at the school was that they were all actually Betas, when I was just lying about my rank in order to please society and get schooling.

Omegas usually didn't attend school, and if they did they took other classes than everyone else to learn how to raise and care for a family. Because that's all Omegas were seen useful for. Making families so Alphas or Betas could continue on their bloodlines.

It was disturbing for me to think of myself as nothing but a mere pawn to others. A tool to use for their own pleasure and sick purposes. It was unfair that Omegas were only seen as property to their Mates. And how being an unmated Omega was only asking for trouble.

Alphas and Betas weren't known to respect an unmated Omega's boundaries and they certainly didn't understand that no meant no. An Alpha could mate an Omega whether or not they wanted it or not. And it was considered legal. It was disturbing.

But if you were an Omega who happened to have a Mate Mark, you no longer had any of the very little rights you had while being unmated. You couldn't hold a job unless your Alpha let you, you couldn't speak without being given permission to.

You couldn't live your own life if you were an Omega that was trapped to an Alpha for the rest of your miserable lives! There was no way around it! And Alphas and Betas actually wanted it to stay that way, it wasn't fair. It wasn't justified.

The only ways to escape a forced mate situation was to either get another Alpha to mate and mark you and live with them, or to runaway and be branded as a Runaway Omegan which - if found - would be returned to their Apha and usually severely punished. Or there was always the option of death.

There were many reasons why there aren't many Omegas in the world. Suicide being one of them. It was sad, but it was true. Omegas that were forced into situations of either life or death due to the hands of their Mates had to make a choice, and if that choice meant escaping life in general, then they were going to do what they had to.

I hate being an Omega. I hate how others treat me just for my rank. I hate how people of my status are scorned for something that is out of their control. How we're just the damsel in distress who needs a big, strong Alpha to swoop in and Mate us! As if it were for our own better!

I nearly jumped out of my skin as the bell rang, sending shivers down my spine. I looked to the now - much larger crowd of teenagers that were entering the open doors of the school. I took a shuddering breath as I stood.

This is my shot at a better life, and I'm not going to waste it. Just you watch.
