Chapter Ten
Mentions of being self-conscious weight wise.
Wanda groaned as her alarm clock went off. She got out of bed, turning it off. She grabbed a dress from her closet. She decided against it, putting it back. She grabbed her black dress with long gray sleeves instead. She liked this one better.
She took a shower and brushed her teeth. She dropped her towel so she could put on her dress, but she suddenly noticed something. Her stomach was even more noticeable than she realized. Wanda wasn't fat, far from it. But she definitely wasn't as skinny as she had been. She thought for a second before going against better judgment and jumping up onto the scale. 95 pounds. How'd she manage to gain 20 pounds in three months?! She tried to shoo away the thought.
She tugged on her bra and panties before throwing on her dress. She pulled back her hair while she did her makeup. Her makeup took about fifteen minutes, because she couldn't get the dang eyeliner to go straight and she had to keep starting over.
Once she was done, she looked in the mirror and smiled at herself. She looked good today. But then her eyes traveled down to her stomach, making her feel much less confident. She had gained a lot really quickly. Thirty pounds in three months?! If she kept that up, she'd be... 115 three months from now! That definitely seemed too much for her to be. But she knew that was a 'healthy' weight the doctor would be pleased with. But... it made her kind of uncomfortable. How to make that gain slow down?
Eat less. That was it. She had been eating a lot. But if she only ate one or two meals a day, or three light meals, that would fix the problem. It wasn't like she was gonna starve herself, she knew better. She would just be careful. She wasn't trying to STOP weight gain, she just wanted it to go slower, so she'd have more time to adjust.
She left the bathroom and went to the kitchen.
Steve kissed the top of her head, giving her a hug. As a clingy person, Wanda enjoyed all of the physical affection she received at the Rogers-Barnes apartment.
"Looking good, Wanda!" Bucky called from the couch.
"Thanks!"
"Wanda, Bucky and I have got to go to work today. I'll be back in time for lunch, so I'll bring you something. Then I've gotta take you to the doctor. Whatcha want?"
"I don't know. Maybe a salad or some chicken soup?"
"Sounds good, sweetie. I'll get it for you. You want both?"
"No, I- you know what? Sure, if I can't finish it, I'll save it for dinner."
"Alright then. You want some pancakes?"
"No, I think I'll just have some cereal." She grabbed the box of Cheerios.
Steve and Bucky gave her a weird look.
"But you love pancakes," Bucky said.
"I don't really feel like it."
"Since when?" Steve asked.
"Since now," Wanda said angrily. "Leave me alone!" She grabbed the bowl of cereal she'd made and walked back to her room, slamming the door.
"What the heck?" Bucky said.
"Crazy teenage hormones?" Steve suggested.
"Maybe. That was weird. I've never seen her act like that before. I get that she's a teenager and I should kind of expect her to lash out at some point, but jeez."
"Maybe she's tired. I don't know how much she slept last night."
"She barely got any cereal though. AND she didn't get milk. She always gets milk in her cereal."
"Yeah, that's weird, too."
"I guess she's not hungry. We've gotta go to work, though, so come on. If something's wrong, you'll find out at her appointment."
"I know," Steve sighed.
They ate their breakfast, called out a 'bye' to Wanda and headed off to work.

Steve groaned as he slammed his head against his desk. He was a substitute teacher at a local preschool. He loved kids, but they were being crazy. He was glad that the teacher was only gone for a couple hours for a dentist appointment.
"Mr. Stevie?" A small voice asked. He looked down at Gloria, who was smiling at him, her brown eyes sparkling. "My bow fell out of my hair. Can you put it back?"
"Of course I can," He said with a smile. He took the bow from the little girl. "Oh wow, it's a princess bow! How cool is that?!"
Gloria giggled and Steve flipped he bow back into her straight brown hair. "Tank you, Mr. Stevie!" She gave him a hug before running over to play with her friends.
Steve was luckily relieved from duty a few minutes later when the teacher arrived.
"Thanks, Steve," She said.
"No problem, Peggy. They're crazy today," He warned.
"I suspected. Little kids are like werewolves, they always seem to go crazy when it's the full moon. I have no idea why." She smiled.
"I've gotta head home now, Wanda's got a doctor's appointment."
"How's she been?"
"Good. A little moody today, though."
"Well, that's teenagers for you."
"Yeah," Steve agreed. "See you later." He headed home, picking up food. He knocked on Wanda's door. "Sweetheart, I've got your food."
"Thanks," She said, opening the door. She took the soup and a spoon.
"You want to eat it in the car?" Steve asked.
"Sure."
"C'mon then. Let's go." He stuck her salad in the fridge and they got in the car. "Wanna ride in the front seat?"
Wanda's eyes lit up. She climbed in, buckling her seatbelt. She started eating her soup as Steve drone to the doctor.
"Eat as much of that as you can," Steve said. "You didn't eat that much today if you only ate that sorry excuse for breakfast. If your weight is good when she checks you, I'll get you a donut or some ice cream."
Wanda smiled, but that smile faltered as she remembered the promise she made herself.
"Wanda, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just... I don't know."
"It's alright, sweetie." They got to the doctor a few minutes later, and hopped out of the car.
Wanda was nervous as she sat in one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs in the waiting room.
"Wanda Maximoff?" A nurse called at the door after about 45 minutes. Wanda and Steve got up and walked over, following her to the back. "Can you take off your shoes for me, sweetie? Keep your bank against the wall... you're 5'5. You've grown an inch since we saw you three months ago, that's great! Can you step up on the scale for me? 95 pounds, that's way better than last time. You're sticking with the meal plans the dietician gave you, aren't you?"
Steve nodded.
The nurse turned to Wanda with an understanding expression. "I get that you're gaining so much weight so fast that's it's probably uncomfortable. Trust me, I was underweight my entire life until like two years after I got my period, and then I suddenly gained a lot in a year and was a normal weight. I remember it being a difficult transition. And you've gained it much faster, but we're trying to make it fast. Remember that. It's nothing to be worried or embarrassed about. You're not malnourished anymore, and you've hit a growth spurt. You're gonna gain a lot really quickly. It'll start slowing down."
Wanda cracked a smile. The nurse had known exactly what to say to make Wanda feel better.
The nurse led them to a room, and took Wanda's blood pressure and checked her eyes, ears, mouth and nose. She listened to her heartbeat with the cold stethoscope. She asked a few questions before sending in the doctor. The doc ran though all the stuff and said that everything was going well and Wanda was good to go. She said Wanda should be at a good, steady weight by the end of the year.
They gladly accepted the information and headed home, stopping for donuts on the way. Wanda leaned back in the car after eating her snack, falling asleep. Steve glanced over at her and smiled before quickly turning his attention back on the road.
