Chapter Four

Bucky shook Wanda again. "I'm sorry, Wandie, but you've gotta get up. You have to go to the doctor."

Wanda groaned, rolling over. "How about no?"

"You gotta." He pulled her to her feet. "Get dressed."

Wanda pouted, but walked over to her dresser. She opened the drawer and pulled out a black dress. Bucky left the room, giving her some privacy.

She entered the kitchen half an hour later. "We're getting breakfast on the way there, get your butt in the car." Steve told her. Wanda huffed, but walked to the car.

As much as she loved the car, she was still tired. She decided that she would close her eyes for a minute. Just for a minute.

Bucky glanced into the backseat after Wanda had been quiet for a while. She was fast asleep, her chin to her chest. He smiled. She really must have been tired. They hit the drive through of Macdonald's, ordering a couple biscuits and some coffee. And "fake coffee"-as Bucky called it- for Wanda.

Steve gently shook her awake. "Hey, sweetheart. Wake up."

Wanda's eyes opened slightly. "I've got you some food and a drink."

Wanda nodded, taking the items. She slowly indulged in the food, careful to not repeat the previous morning's event. When the food was gone, she kicked her lips. They pulled up in front of the doctors office.

"You can take your drink with you," Bucky said. "C'mon." They took the elevator up to the third floor, where the pediatric clinic was.

"Hi!" The woman at the desk greeted them with a smile. "What's the name?"

"Wanda Maximoff." Since the official papers still needed to be signed, she was still Maximoff. But that would change in the next few months.

"Alright then. Here's your paperwork, bring it back to me when you've finished filling it out."

They filled it out to the best of their ability, given none of them really knew too much about Wanda's medical history.

The receptionist was very sweet about it though, saying whatever they'd managed to fill out was fine. Wanda was called back about fifteen minutes later.

The nurse asked Wanda to take her shoes off, which she did. She measured her. "She's 5'5, but still growing, I'm sure. Let's get her weight." Wanda stepped up on the scale. The nurse cringed. "78 pounds. You're gonna have to put some meat on those bones, girl."

Wanda shrugged.

"We'll make sure she's getting enough," Steve assured the nurse. She nodded, and lead them back to a room. "I have these forms for Wanda to fill out while I go check on another patient. Ok?" She handed Wanda a small stack of paper and a pen.

Wanda needed help from Bucky to read it. "Do you do drugs?"

"No."

"Smoke?"

"No."

"Are you, or have you been, sexually active?"

"No."

"Good girl. Any tattoos?"

"One."

They both looked at her in surprise. "What? It's tiny. No big deal. Just a crescent moon on my wrist that's the size of a dime."

"Any piercings?"

"Excluding my ears? I have one on my nose. And what does this have anything to do with my health?"

"I have no idea." Bucky said as he answered the question.

"Does your home situation make you uncomfortable?"

"No."

"Do your parents or guardians abuse you in anyway?"

"No."

The last few questions were answered, and soon the nurse came back in. She checked Wanda's heart, breathing and blood pressure. "So, Wanda. I've got a question to ask you."

"Ok?"

"Have you gotten your period yet?"

Wanda looked confused. "My what?"

Realizing she probably didn't know the English term, the nurse said, "Your time of the month. Have you had it yet?"

Wanda, who was quickly able to figure out what that meant, blushed. "No," She whispered.

"Really? I would have thought- but you're so malnourished that I can see how you wouldn't have. Alright, so one more thing I need to say here before I go get the doctor. She needs a round of STD vaccines that she hasn't had. We're going to give her those today, unless you guys want to wait a couple of months."

Steve and Bucky talked quietly to each other for a minute. "Go ahead, I don't see why not. Go ahead it get it done. Sound good, Wanda?" Steve inquired.

"Sounds fine."

"Alright, then."

The nurse typed a bunch of stuff into the computer. She left. Fifteen minutes later, the doctor arrived. She flashed a smile at them. "I'm Dr. Zee." She ran through the same questions Wanda had already answered, which seemed rather stupid to the young brunette.

She checked Wanda's vitals. Dr. Zee then had the girl stretch so she could check her spine. Then she asked Wanda to lie down. Wanda did was she was told. Her gut churned. Though it had been a year since her last trip to a doctor, she knew this part was one of the most uncomfortable.

Dr. Zee gently lifted Wanda's dress to expose her stomach. Wanda was regretting her sleepy decision to wear a dress instead of a skirt. She flinched as the doctor felt her stomach. She felt a hand wrap around hers. She glanced over to see Bucky next to her. He gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Alright. Wanda, I'm really sorry. The rules here say that if you haven't gotten your period yet, I need to check to see if I can make a guess when you'll get it. Which means-"

"I know what it means." The doctors who visited the orphanage had the same rule. It was quite possibly her least favorite rule ever.

"Alright then. Dads, can you leave the room please?"

They nodded. Steve exited the room, but when Bucky tried to, Wanda's grip on his hand tightened. He sighed. "Guess I'm staying."

He kept his eyes on her face as the doctor gently pulled down Wanda's underwear. Wanda kept flinching and squirming. Bucky felt bad for her. But he understood the necessary of it.

"Alright, all done." Dr. Zee said, tugging back up Wanda's underpants, pulling her dress back down. Wanda sighed in relief.

"Was that so bad, Wandie?" Bucky asked.

Wanda nodded. "Yes."

Bucky snorted.

Dr. Zee smiled. "Ok, so I'd have to guess that as long as she's eating healthy, she should get her period in a few months to a year, tops."

Bucky nodded. "Got it. You can come back in now, Steve!"

Steve walked back in. "She good?"

"I'll go get Nurse Kate. She bring Wanda's shots, and then she'll be good to go."

"All right then!"

Wanda brought her knees to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. She looked nervous.

"Not a fan of needles?" Steve guessed.

"No."

"It will only take a minute, Wandie. Then we can go see a movie if you'd like," Bucky suggested.

Wanda perked up at that. She hadn't been to the cinema in years. She remembered it fondly, though.

"I take that grin as a yes," Steve laughed.

The nurse came back far too soon for Wanda's liking. She flinched, inadvertently tightening her muscles. She whimpered as the nurse wiped her arm with an alcohol wipe.

"Relax, honey. It'll be ok." Nurse Kate assured her. She gave Wanda the first injection as quickly as she could. Wanda hissed. "I know it hurts. Just two more."

She gave those to Wanda in quick precession, but by the time she was done, Wanda had a couple tears dripping down her cheeks. "Aw, sweetie. It's all done now, I promise."

She grabbed a bucket she had brought in with her. "Want a sticker? Wait, what am I saying? Everyone wants a sticker."

Wanda smiled, looking through the bucket. She found a sticker with a princess on it. She pulled it out. She had heard of Disney, of course, but not too many movies were translated into Sokovian. So this was one she'd never seen.

"That's Belle," Bucky whispered in her ear. "There's a new love action version of the movie that recently came out. We can watch it if you want."

Wanda smiled, nodding.

"That one?" The nurse asked.

"Yes, please."

"I love Beauty and the Beast. I'm taking my niece to see the new one Saturday."

Wanda nodded, signaling that she understood.

The family was sent to check out and after that, headed back to their car.

"Beauty and the Beast, huh?" Steve asked. "I think you'll like it."

"I've heard the story, but I've never seen a movie about it."

"Well, now you will."

Two and a half hours later, they left the movie theater very happy.

Steve and Bucky had tried to pay attention to the movie, but kept getting distracted by Wanda's look of wonder.

They picked up lunch. "I swear, we don't eat out all the time," Steve assured her, passing her back her food.

Wanda giggled, taking it. She ate on the way home. As they walked into the building, the Starks walked out.

As much as Wanda wanted to say hello to Pepper and Morgan- and relearn the name of the rather attractive boy- Tony was there. She wasn't about to say anything to him. So she just went directly to the elevator, only giving Morgan a small wave.

"That was weird," Bucky said.

"I'm sorry," Steve apologized. "She's not- she doesn't like new people."

"It's fine," Tony said. "I don't mind. Teenagers are weird."

"Hey!" Peter objected.

"You're weird kid, admit it."

"Never. Hey, can I go to Ned's house later to help him build the LEGO Death Star?"

"I'll think about it," Pepper said.

At the same time Tony said, "Sure, why not?"

Pepper glared at him.

"Ummm, of course, I mean you'll have to wait for your mother's decision."

Peter sighed.

Bucky chuckled, but noticed Peter looking behind them, at Wanda? She was leaning against the wall, waiting for Bucky and Steve to finish their conversation.

"Nice view, kid?" Tony teased.

Peter looked startled. "What-what are you talking about?" He was blushing.

"You eyeing you Wanda, obviously. Go get her, tiger."

"Don't listen to him," Steve said. "You haven't even met her yet."

Peter looked deathly embarrassed. "Can we go now? Before I go find a noose to hang myself with?"

"PETER!" Pepper exclaimed.

"It's just a joke," Peter muttered.

Pepper put her face in her hand. Tony chuckled and rubbed her back. "Underoos is right, let's go ahead and go. Nice seeing you two."

Steve and Bucky nodded before walking over to Wanda.

"What took so long?"

"We were talking for three minutes, just go upstairs."

Wanda rolled her eyes, but got in the elevator.
