Chapter Eight

Wanda finished putting on her mascara before nodding in satisfaction. She walked out of her bathroom into the bedroom.

Bucky wolf whistled.

"Beautiful!" Steve praised.

Wanda giggled.

"Twirl for me, darling!" Bucky said.

Wanda spun in a circle.

"Perfect!"

"You're gonna knock Peter off his feet," Steve added.

"Good." Wanda grinned.

"Now, he'll be here in five minutes, Steve and I are gonna go wait for him in the living room, you wait here."

Wanda nodded. She started pacing around after they headed to the living room. She was anxious. No, she was far beyond anxious. She felt like she might faint from the panic. What if Peter changed his mind? What if she didn't look pretty enough? What if she overdressed? What if-

"Wandie, sweetie, come in here!" Steve called.

Wanda gulped, walking into the living room.

Peter's eyes went wide at the sight of her. "Wow, Wanda. I-I... you look gorgeous!"

"Thanks." Wanda blushed.

"Now, scat, lovebirds," Bucky shooed them out.

Once Wanda and Peter were settled in one of Tony's Cadillacs (chauffeured by Happy, of course). Happy dropped them off at a nice restaurant, promising to pick them up from the movie theater at 11:30.

After they'd been seated and their sodas brought, Wanda gave Peter a look. "What did they tell you?"

Peter laughed uneasily. "Oh, nothing much. Steve just threatened to kill me if I hurt or touched you in any way while Bucky cleaned his literal big guns."

Wanda sighed.

A waiter came up and took their order. He was clearly checking Wanda out. Peter glared at him.

Wanda noticed this. "I wonder if my dads would let you get away with this." She took his hand from across the table.

Peter smiled and the waiter frowned. As if he had a chance. Wanda was literally on a date. The waiter left, headed to the kitchen.

"So, what movie do you want to see?" Peter asked.

"I don't know what's even an option," Wanda laughed.

"One of the local theaters shows two movies that are at least a couple years old for like a dollar every week in the summer. I think this week's movies are Inside Out and the 2014 Godzilla."

"A friend of mine saw the Godzilla one. She said that it was weird cuz the main couple looked weirdly like me and my brother."

"Huh." Peter thought about it. "They do, actually. That would be weird. You seen Inside Out?"

"I don't even know what that is."

Peter gasped. He pulled out his phone, typing something. He handed it to her. "Put on the earbuds and watch the trailer."

Wanda watched it, giggling every now and then. She handed back the phone when it was over.

"So?" Peter asked.

"Seems pretty good, actually."

"It's great. Shall we see it?"

"I think we shall."

Their conversation continued until their food was brought out. "This is delicious," Wanda said, shoveling another forkful into her mouth.

"Mmmhmm," Peter agreed. "I would die for this food."

"Then perish," Wanda said, taking another bite.

Peter laughed. "You're so hot."

Wanda froze, blushing. "Thanks."

"Aww, did I make you blush?"

"Shut up."

"Cut the pouting. I'm paying for all this!"

"I'm pretty sure your dad is," Wanda said.

While she was probably teasing him, her tone was cold. After two months of knowing Wanda, he knew Wanda ALWAYS talked about his dad in a harsh tone, when she talked about him at all. She actively avoided him.

"What's your deal with my dad?"

"My deal? I don't have a deal. Your dad is FINE."

"The fact you looked disgusted saying that tells me otherwise. C'mon, what's so bad about him?"

"Your dad's company used to sell war weapons outside of the country, which were sometimes used to hurt CIVILIANS."

"It wasn't like he knew that!" Peter was startled by her even remembering that. It hadn't been big news in years.

"Exactly. He wasn't paying enough attention to what his company was doing and some black market stuff happened. Could have been avoided if he had been more involved in what HIS OWN COMPANY was doing!"

"Why are you so passionate about it? It happened, no one can change it!"

"You asked me! And godda**it, I KNOW no one can change it! If I could, my mum and dad would be here!"

Peter froze. She... she didn't mean what he was thinking.

"A Stark bomb killed my parents five years ago! That's why I care so much! If your dad had payed more attention, mine would still be alive! I wouldn't be an orphan!" She was crying.

"I-I didn't know. I'm sorry."

Wanda wiped her eyes. "It's about time I told someone. But you get why I hate your dad now, right?"

"I do. And now, I can't help but be a little pis*ed at him. But, Wanda, he really has changed since then." He took Wanda's hands in his. "Look at me, Wanda." They met eyes. "He shut down the program as soon as he found out it was being used in ways he didn't agree with, like to bomb civilians."

"He only found out AFTER he almost got killed by one."

"Yeah, well sometimes reality needs to smack you in the face. Wanda, no one can change the past. It's impossible. It doesn't work. But he really does feel bad for what he did. You don't have to except that, but please don't hate him. He IS my dad."

"I guess I can try."

"Thank you!" He wiped away her remaining tears with his thumbs.

After they had payed for their delicious meal, they headed to the movie theater. They laughed, they cried, and they laughed some more while eating a gigantic bucket of popcorn and sharing a slushy. It was great. Happy came and picked them up and took them home.

Peter escorted Wanda back home. Steve and Bucky were waiting in the living room for them.

"So, Wanda, how'd it go?" Bucky asked.

"Great!" Wanda said, grinning.

"Good," Steve said.

"Uh, bye!" Peter exclaimed, before running away.

Bucky scoffed. "Coward."

"Go get ready for bed, Wands," Steve said.

"Ok," She said. She kissed the top of his head.

Bucky's arms wrapped around her in a hug. "Goodnight, doll."

"Goodnight, Bucky!" She kissed his cheek before going to her room.

Once in there, she got ready for bed and climbed under the sheets. Ranger jumped up next to her. Though he was blind, he'd quickly figured out how to get onto the comfy bed. Wanda draped her arm around him, smiling as she thought about her fate with Peter.

She really liked him, and she felt better knowing that she finally told someone why she didn't like Tony Stark. She told his SON, and he understood why she was angry. She had really scored on the boyfriend front.

She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. She was unable to help wondering what their first kiss would be like.
