Chapter 103: Christy Makes A Move

The next day, Gustave and Bella decided to spend the afternoon out on the town with Lucas and Monique.
Demetrius wished to have the day to himself, so Catherine offered to have Athena stay at their apartment for the afternoon. Demetrius accepted this offer and Athena went to spend time with her cousins.
Christy had learned that Demetrius was going to be alone. She decided that this would be a good time to go to his apartment and see him.
You see, Christy was tired of being a widow, living with her parents. She was in the prime years of her life, and she knew that if she didn't find a husband soon, she may end up alone.
Christy went over to the apartment in which Demetrius resided. She gave a loud knock on the door. It was opened by a young man who, instead of saying hello or giving some expression of delight at see her, he asked, "Christy, what are you doing here?"

Christy gave a shy smile. "I just wanted to see you. Can I come in?"

   Demetrius sighed. "I guess so."

   "Thank you," the girl replied.

"So, why did you suddenly feel the need to see me?" Demetrius asked.

"Demetrius, I'm twenty-one now. I was married to a very nice man, but he passed away shortly after the wedding. I am now a widow and in need of a husband. If I don't get financial security, I fear for my future."

"I'm afraid I can provide you with neither."

On sudden impulse, Christy pulled Demetrius close and kissed him.
It was then that Mia entered the room. She gave a cry of discontent and exclaimed, "Demetrius Destler, what on God's green Earth are you doing with her?"

"It's not what it looks like, I swear," Demetrius said quickly, pushing Christy away. "Let me explain."

"No. You aren't going to say a word, I am going to leave, and we calling off the wedding. That's how this is going to work," Mia said. The girl made a mad rush for the front door, but Demetrius was very fast. He quickly blocked her and rested two firm hands on her shoulders. She struggled to break free of his grasp and exclaimed, "Let me go!"

"Not until you let me explain."

"I don't see how you possibly can, but go ahead and try."

Christy interjected, "I kissed him. I wasn't aware that the two of you were a thing and I kissed him. I'm sorry."

"I can't believe you kissed my fiancé." Mia said angrily.

"Wait. You're engaged?" Christy asked in surprise. "Demetrius, why do you never tell me these things?"

"I was going to tell you, but then you...well, you know...kissed me," Demetrius replied.

"Who are you anyway?" Mia asked.

"Christy LeClair. Lucas LeBlanc is my uncle, and Monique LeBlanc is my aunt. Both of my parents died when I was a year old. I was married two years ago, but my husband died a week after the wedding...Sorry, I didn't mean to just dump that on you. I just-"

"It's alright," Mia replied. She felt sorry for the girl and told her of her own past.

"I'm very sorry to hear that," Christy replied when Mia finished. "I'm going to go and let the two of you talk. Sorry to have disturbed you, Demetrius."

"Are you okay?" Demetrius asked his fiancée once Christy had left the apartment.

"I thought that you were cheating on me," Mia replied with tears in her eyes. "I thought that-"

"I could never. I love you, Mia. How could you ever doubt my love for you? You're the only girl that I've ever wanted to be with and the only one I'll ever love," Demetrius assured, pulling his bride-to-be into a kiss.

   "I love you too, Demetrius."

"Is it too soon to call you Mia Destler?"

"I don't see why not. The wedding is tomorrow, after all."

"Yes. Yes, it is," Demetrius remembered. "And I have a million things to do."

"I best be off then. I'll see you tomorrow, mon amour," Mia said with a smile, kissing her fiancé once more. "I love you."
