M A X

The house is quiet. Its so empty. Something is missing.

Someone is missing.

"I miss Alexis," I whisper to no one inparticular.

I haven't talk to anyone besides Adam. Occasionally Ross and Tim but mostly Adam.

"I've got it covered Max, don't worry."

IT HAS BEEN TWO DAYS!

I pick up my phone only to see a tweet from Adam.

Its a video.

I unlock my phone and click on the notification.

'They are so CUTE together. I'd ship it'
Was the caption. I clicked on the video.

"Red fish. Blue fish. One fish. Two fish," Alexis said. She had a book on her lap with Mason looking over her shoulder. The camera zoomed in on them. As she kept reading I felt kind of proud. I taught her how to read because she kept getting frustrated from not understanding all the signs and labels everywhere. Soon Mason leaned back on the couch, Alexis following shortly after.

"I miss my baby girl..."

"Uncle Adam?" A small voice called walking into the living room. I was on my phone, sitting on the couch.

"Yeah?" I replied as Alexis rushed over to me.

"I'm bored," she said standing in front of the couch.

"Read a book to Mason or something."

"I was just doing that but he fell asleep." I chuckle lightly before picking her up and setting her on my lap.

"I think you should go back home, go see your daddy again. He misses you," I said and she shook her head.

"Why would I wanna go back? I have Mason to play with almost all the time and I get to see you more. We hardly get to visit. I blame Daddy," she said looking up at me.

"Mason is going back to his mommy's tomorrow."

"He is?" I nodded as she thought about it.

"I do miss Daddy..." she whispered quietly. "I don't know Uncle Adam." Alexis whispered. "What should I do?"

"I think you should go back home."

"Can you drive me later tonight? Please?" I nodded and she gave me a hug. "Thank you."

"Any time kiddo."

"Lex," Mace said in a whiney tone. "Why did you leave me?"

"'Cause you fell asleep!" Alexis laughed as I set me back on the floor. She went running towards Mason. He started running back up the stairs.

I did a little victory dance in my head as Alexis went running after Mason.

I got up and started preparing some food to cook for dinner.

I parked in front of their house. I helped Alexis out of the car and gave her the bags of clothing and her pre-school backpack.

She looked back at me. I gave her an encouraging smile. Mason already said his good bye and was waving to her from inside the car.

She looked back and hesitated. I motioned for her to it.

She nodded and took a deep breath. She knocked twice and stepped back from the door. She had her bag next to her on the ground.

The door swung open.

Max looked around. His eyes locked with mine. I pointed down. He looked down and instantly collapsed to his knees. He engulfed Alexis in a hug, holding her tightly in his arms. A tear slipped out of his eyes as they continued to hug. He picked her up, not breaking the hug, and looked towards me. He mouthed a thank you and disappeared into the house with Alexis in his arms and her little backpack.

Knock
Knock
Knock

Me, being the person closest to the door, went to go open it.

I opened the door and looked around. I saw Adam leaning up against his car smiling. He pointed to the ground with a smug smirk on his face. My eyes traveled down to the ground in front of me. I dropped down to my knees as I found Alexis in front of me.

I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tight. She hesitated but wrapped her arms around my neck.

I shut my eyes tight as tears build up in the corners of my eyes.

"I missed you Daddy," Alexis whispered, hugging me tight.

I had missed hearing her call me that. I didn't think I would but...

I really missed it.

I really missed a lot of things.

I really missed her. I look over to Adam as a tear rolls down my face.

"Thank you," I mouth to him as he gave me a smile. I picked up Alexis' bag and her. I walk back into the house smiling happily.

"Who was at the- Alexis?" Ross said facing us. He ran over and took her from my grasp. He hugged her.

"Hi Uncle Ross," Alexis said hugging him back.

"Don't leave us like that again, okay?" Ross said softly.

"I won't, I promise," Alexis said quietly.

"Alexis?" Tim now entered the room. As did Ross, he scooped Alexis out of Ross' s arms. He hugged her tight.

"I missed you guys, a lot actually. I missed your hugs, hearing you, seeing you and I missed seeing you every day. I love you guys," Alexis said quietly, looking down at the ground. I picked her up from Tim and hugged her tightly.

"We love you too, Alexis. We missed you so much. It was different, not having you around to crash recording, listen to you laughing and playing with you. I, for one, am not used to the silence and- not having you with me," I told her. We pulled into a group hug, Alexis in the middle of us.

Everyone was happy again.

Everyone was smiling again.

Everything was back to normal.

I laid in bed, alone. I just stared up at the ceiling since everyone left for bed, including Alexis. I sat up, grabbing my phone and necklace and stood up. I made my way over to my bedroom door and pushed it open.

The house was dead silent.

I started walking down the hall.

Only thing heard throughout the house was my footsteps on the hardwood floors.

I pushed a door open, a smile crept onto my face.

The room as dimly lit, a small lamp on the bed side table lit up the room. On the small bed, Alexis laid with a book leaning on her lap and cross legged. I pushed the door open more only for it to creak somewhat quietly. Alexis sheirked quietly, throwing her book across the room where it landed neatly on the shelf next to her dresser.

"Hey baby girl," I greeted quietly.

"I'll go to sleep right now I promise!" Alexis whisper screamed, panicking.

"Calm down," I said closing the door behind me. "I'm not mad, but it is bad for your eyes to read in low lighting. And I couldn't sleep so I came to check on you, if your wondering why I'm here." I walked over to the bed, sitting next to her. She leaned against my shoulder right after I sat down. "Go get the book." Alexis nodded, standing up and taking the book off the shelf. She placed it in my hands.

'The True Story About The Big Bad Wolf' was the title on a news paper like cover.

"He only had a cold, he's not bad at all," Alexis whispered grabbing the book from me. "It was all an accident, a big misunderstanding really." She held it in her hands, flipping to the first page.

I laid back on her bed, next to the wall, and locked my finger together behind my head. Alexis looked at me funny, tilting her head to the side with confusion written all over her face. I sighed.

"Read it," I said as she laid down next to me in the same position as before.

She smiled as she started reading it quietly. I smiled to myself and closed my eyes.

Falling asleep quite easily, listening to my sweet baby girls quiet voice.
