Chapter 6
When Eren came to after a long rest, the first thing he saw was the old and cracked dusty ceiling of his room. He was still a bit drowsy from sleep when he sat up and rubbed his eyes tiredly. His body didn't hurt as much as it did before but there was still a linger of soreness in his shoulders from carrying such a heavy weight for miles.
Eren sighed and shook his head, forcing the sleepiness away as he swung his legs over the side of the bed, the coldness of the wooden floor beneath his bare feet sending a small shiver up his spine.
He stood up and stretched, a yawn escaping his full lips as he did so. When cool air hit him he was reminded that he had removed his clothes before going to sleep naked. He searched around until he found the shirt bertholdt had leant him lying on the ground near the table. His shorts were also lying beside them.
He picked them up and tossed them onto the wooden chair. He would need to wash those later when he has the time.
Today, as he had promised to Krista, he would check the elevator but before he could do that, he needed to visit the injured wolf he had brought back in hopes of getting it healed. He didn't know why but something inside him was holding him back from just letting the poor thing go back out there. The world was a cruel place for such a beautiful animal to be wandering around by itself.
A growl from his stomach reminded he hadn't ate in hours since he had arrived. He sighed, and walked towards the restroom for a quick but hot bath hoping it would soothe the soreness in his muscles.
After he finished bathing, he completely patted himself down with a clean towel. Scrubbing would've been quicker but it would be bad for his skin and possibly damage the smoothness of it. Afterwards, Eren made sure to squeeze his slightly long hair to get all the water out before blotting it with the towel.
He turned and grabbed his clothes, slipping on his black colored lace boy shorts along with black knee highs that stopped two inches above his knees. After that, he slid on a short, and torn high waisted blue jean shorts. He then looked at the extra shirt bertholdt had leant him and bit his lip in thought.
This shirt was a red and black flannel shirt that was much too large for his small frame. The one he had wore yesterday had been smaller and one of bertholdt's old shirts so it had fit him quite well. He glanced away from the shirt and spotted a pair of scissors. A sudden idea came to his mind.
He quickly set to work on cutting the bottom of the flannel shirt and once he was finished, he held it up to admire it. He gave a confident, approved nod and tried on the now cropped shirt. He was satisfied when it was short enough to expose his belly for he didn't want to have to wear such a big shirt in the heat outside. He buttoned it up, leaving the top few unbuttoned. Then he rolled up the sleeves to his elbows.
He walked out to the bathroom and found his worn ankle boots by the door where he had left them. Slipping them on, he contemplated on whether to take his katanas or not. He wouldn't actually need them but you never know. He still didn't exactly trust the new comers.
Shrugging, he took them along and just as he was about to head out the door, a flash of gold caught his attention. He stopped and walked towards his bag, where it lay on the table forgotten. He pulled out the necklace with a golden key that seemed to taunt him as it dangled and swung lightly in his fingers. He frowned and winced, a sudden throb of pain causing him to clutch his head tightly.
Unfamiliar images began to flash in his mind as he grit his teeth, eyes squeezed shut in pain.
While they had passed too quickly for him to process, one of them stood out from the rest. It was like he was looking through someone else's eyes and not his own.
There was a large, glowing, cylinder-like tank in the middle of a white room and inside that tank was Eren himself, albeit unconscious. He was naked and floating in the liquid substance that the tank contained. He could see the long lashes of his eyes resting against tan cheeks, a breathing mask covering half his face and suddenly, a large and unknown hand came into his vision and pressed against the glass.
Who's memories are these?
And why does that hand look so......familiar?
"Eren?" The knock on his door brought him back and he blinked, not realizing he had spaced out at all. He slipped on the necklace and answered the door.
Armin stood on the other side, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry. Did I bother you?" He asked, guilt lacing his voice.
Eren blinked and shook his head lightly. "No, it's alright." He said.
Armin looked down at his feet, shyly avoiding Eren's emerald eyes as he blushed. "U-uhm, I know you probably haven't had anything to eat, so I wanted to ask. . . .would you like to come have breakfast with us?"
Eren nodded again though a bit reluctantly. He would have preferred to eat by himself any other time for he had no intentions of making friends nor staying any longer than possibly a few days. He was not here for that. Sure, everyone was kind to him but he wasn't looking forward to getting attached to anyone anytime soon. He had a goal to achieve and friends would only drag him down.
Hopefully he'd get out of here without any attachments.
As they walked down the stairs, heading for the first floor, Eren found himself glancing around and taking in everything and everyone.
The people he passed by seemed happy and content, so worry free like there weren't any monsters lurking out beyond those gates. They smiled, laughed and talked. It was only then that he realized he hadn't seen any elderly or children around. Only young teens.
That's strange..... He thought.
"Well! We're here, c'mon in!" Armin grabbed his arm and pulled him through two, large double doors.
The room was large with a high cieling. The walls were made of smooth cement that had several cracks here and there, and in front of him was a long, rectangular table filled with happy, chatting people.
He spotted Jean and Marco sitting side by side, Reiner and Bertholdt in front of them. At the head of the table sat a woman with a low pony tail and freckles on her cheeks, Krista in her lap.
The woman had light leather armor that covered her shoulders, chest and elbows, and a black band with a gold star on her arm. She wore a thin, skin tight black shirt that hugged her slender form perfectly. Her chin rested atop her glove covered hands and when Eren walked through the doors, her light brown eyes immediately snapped up to Eren. She smirked.
Must be their leader. . . .
"You must be Eren, I assume?" She grinned.
Eren's face did not change nor did his voice betray any emotion when he spoke, loud and clear so she could hear from across the table. "Yes, you assumed correct."
She threw her head back and laughed. "Well aren't you something!" Once she was done laughing she waved her hand. "Sit, sit. Name's Ymir and I never got to thank you for the service---"
"It was no service. I was only alleviating." Eren crossed his arms and jutted his hip out.
Ymir's eye twitched and she grit her teeth, brown eyes narrowing. She was about to snap something at him when Krista spoke up.
"Well, let's get back to eating, yes? Okay!" She clapped her hands and smiled angelically. She then turned to Ymir and whispered something in her ear causing the woman to huff and look away with a pout.
"Yoooo!!! Eren! Eren! Eren! Over here! Eren!" A familiar, cheerful voice shouted. Hanji stood from her seat and waved her hands like a maniac. Beside her sat, Levi and on her other side, Erwin who stared at him briefly before turning his attention to the person next to him.
As Eren began to make his way towards he realized there was only four empty seats next to Levi. He took the one next to the alpha, aware of side glance the alpha shot him. He ingored the cold eyes roaming slowly over his form as he pulled the chair back.
Sitting down, unconsciously, he inhaled the musky scent the alpha emitted and fought the strong urge to purr. It was a pleasant scent that somehow made his knees weak and mind hazy. Thank fuck he was already sitting down.
Levi set the the cup down and spoke but did not turn to face him. "So. . . how was your trip yesterday?" His voice was smooth and deep. And very tempting.
Eren set his elbow on the table, and chin on his palm. "How do you think?" He said.
This time, Levi finally turned to him. His grey-blue eyes staring intently into Eren's as he leaned closer, the omega's flowery and fresh scent luring him in. "So what's your true motive, hm?"
Eren stared back shortly before crossing his arms, and turning away. "My, my, aren't you nosy." He muttered, pushing a lock of silky, brown hair behind his ear.
Levi played with the fruit on his plate but kept his gaze on him. "As if. Merely curious. A young, pretty boy pops out of fucking nowhere during humanity's downfall, where, let me remind you, everyone is basically dead and claims to be an omega when clearly they vanished centuries ago. You'll surely cause a ruckus soon, no doubt." He clicked his tongue.
Eren slowly turned to him and blinked, his face passive. "Why I'm here is not your business. Nor am I."
The seat beside Eren was suddenly pulled out with a small squeak, and a young male with sandy hair and light blue eyes sat down with a deep sigh. A younger female with red hair in pigtails trudged behind him and took the seat beside him. When he realized two pairs of eyes were on him, he cleared his throat. "Sorry we're late, Levi, you know how Isabel is in the mornings." He chuckled lightly, jabbing his thumb in the direction of said girl who had her head on the table, resting.
Levi 'tched' and nodded. "It's alright."
The male then turned his attention to Eren. A grin forming on his handsome face. He held out a hand for him to take. "My name's Farlan. You must be Eren, yeah?"
Eren blinked twice before a small, fake smile stretched across his own face. "Yeah, Eren Yeager," he said softly and shaked Farlan's larger and more firm hand. It was warm against his own and a darker shade than Levi's pale skin.
Eren let Farlan's hand go and sat up straight. He stood and bent over the table to snatch a freshly, baked bread from a basket before sitting down, unaware of the two pair of eyes snapping away quickly.
Throughout breakfast, Eren had ignored Levi and had a light conversation with Farlan. The redhead, Isabel, had woken up and introduced herself even though Eren already new her name.
Farlan, Eren found out, was twenty-four. He had joined the Corps along with Levi back when they were teenagers and had no where to go. Usually, his job was to go out and scavenge for any useful resources and other times it was guarding.
He was an okay guy, and was easy to be around. He's kind, funny and very smart. He even told amazing stories that had Eren giggling---something he's never done and caused the omega to turn away in a shy manner. It shocked him. A lot. Eren easily found himself listening attentively to every word that left the sandy blonde's mouth.
"Me, Izzy and Levi are gonna head out soon. Just to do a bit of scavenging. Would you like to tag along?" Farlan asked with a smile. His eyes were bright and hopefull.
Having finished his breakfast, Eren patted the corners of his mouth with a napkin before setting it down and agreeing. "Sure, but first I need to. . . .check something. Is that alright?"
Farlan gave a thumbs up and grinned. "Go for it firefly!"
Eren raised an eyebrow, "firefly?"
Farlan crossed his arms and stared at him with his own brow raised. "Yeah, firefly. What? Don't like it?" He teased with a smirk, his blue eyes shining with mirth.
Eren shook his head and stood up with a small grin of his own. "Nope, Sandman." He walked away and ignored the alpha's shout of 'hey!'.
After he left the room, finally free of the loud chatter, he began to walk down the halls and head for the infirmary.

Several minutes later, he found the room with a red plus sign painted on the door and several colorful handprints on it. He knocked twice before entering inside silently.
He made sure to be as quiet as a mouse as he looked for a certain raven haired girl. Though he needn't look any longer for she came right up to him with a big grin.
"Eren!" She greeted cheerfully.
He nodded back in greet before his eyes began searching the several beds for a familiar raven wolf. "Mina, I came to see them."
Mina blinked before nodding and turning away, pigtails swaying with her movement. She motioned for him to follow as she lead him to a back room. "By the way, she's a girl and she's fine. Just resting." She opened the door and ushered him in.
As Eren entered, his eyes fell upon the banaged raven haired wolf he had brought back. It was lying on a metal table, cushioned by several blankets. Immediately, he was by her side and wasn't even surprised to find her awake.
"She lost a lot of blood so she'll need lot's of rest." Mina informed, writing something down in a tattered notebook.
Slowly, and gently, Eren stroked her soft fur atop her head, smiling when she nosed at his arm with a small huff. She's a cute thing, really.
"We also had to put her asleep several times. She's pretty aggressive so be careful." Mina said and when she realized Eren wasn't paying attention, rolled her eyes with a small smile and left the room, leaving the wolf in Eren's care.
Eren stared down at the wolf in fondness. Her fur was soft and silky under his touch. She was warm too and very beautiful. She had endured the endless torture those damn looters committed upon her.
"You're pretty strong y'know," he started in a soft voice. "Anyone else would have been dead with how much blood you lost. You're very brave." He continued to stroke her fur, watching as she closed her violet-grey eyes. Such a beautiful color.
"I'll protect you from now on, okay? So stay by my side," he kissed her head, warmth filling his heart when she bumped her cold nose against his cheek lightly.
"Mikasa."
