19. Aiden

Khaos’s P.O.V

"She's going to be okay, baby," Dad consoles me the same way he did when I was three.

"I know, Dad," I brush his arm off and wait for the doctor.

"She's fine; the injuries were superficial. The one on the head was deep but not fatal, so she will regain consciousness soon too." The doctor smiles, and I breathe a sigh of relief.

"The babies are fine too," she continues, and I look at her dumbfounded.

"Her medical history was transferred, and she's carrying twins," she adds to make her point clear, but I just slump down in shock burying my face in my hands.

"I'm thinking of all the bad things, Dad. What if we weren't there on time? Then what would've happened? She was covered in bruises. She must have been so scared she went through this once, and I failed her again." I begin to fret, and Dad hugs me.

"We made it in time; she's okay now, and so are your kids," he consoles me, and I look up.

"I'm not even thinking about the kids, Dad; all I can think about is her and her safety. What kind of father will I be?" I ask him, and he smiles.

"Of course you're going to think of her safety first. She's your partner; she's your first priority, and if anything, you're going to be a much better parent than I was," he pats my shoulder.

"Don't say that," I shake my head, knowing fully well how much he loved me when he was around.

"Dad, before you leave, I want you to tell me everything." I get up and walk to Beryl's room, and Dad follows me inside.

I look at Beryl and hold her hand; her face is bruised. I don't even know what that man did to her, and that thought makes me fume in anger.

"Are you ready?" Dad asks me as we both sit down, and I nod my head.

"Alice agreed to marry me just to get even with her boyfriend Sebastian, who had married someone else at that time. That wretched woman, but they both still carried their affair."

"She thought I didn't know, but obviously I did, and then, of course, we had to have a child, so we had you. Seeing you made every other thing so irrelevant, I only wanted Alice to give you love, but she couldn't do that too."

"She never even fed you, baby; your grandmother offered to take over your responsibilities and surround you with nannies, but I declined. I used to take you to the office and take care of all your needs; you were doing well."

"I witnessed you take your first step and heard your first words. I was the happiest man, but when I first started, I got involved in a business, just like your wife, and it became a huge problem, and as an adult, I had to deal with the consequences."

"I have to leave you at home as well; Alice pushed you one day, and you ended up with seven stitches on your forehead."

"That was when I lost it. I asked her to leave and served her with divorce papers, but my bad decisions eventually caught up with me. I had to leave you to protect you; I made arrangements for you, but of course, my old man put you in a boot camp after I left; that's how he raises strong family members."

"Your grandmother discovered Alice was carrying Sebastian's children while she was still with us; she began the pity party, hastening her deteriorating health, and then she died as well."

"It was at her funeral that I saw you for the last time, and I decided your future with Xeria. That's all I have got to say." Dad exhales; everyone has their side of the story, and his side was just about unfortunate events and timings.

"I'm sorry, Dad, I blamed you for all these years," I cannot even bring myself to face him.

"Stop it. You might as well be a grown-up man, but for me, you will always be my little boy, who's my whole world. Dad loves you, baby, and that fact will never change." He hugs me, and I feel tears sting in my eyes, and I wrap my arms around him.

Beryl groans, and our attention shifts to her.

"Hey, Beryl," I lean down to check on her.

"Khaos," she opens her eyes and tightens her grip on my hand, and I hear Dad leave the room.

"I was so scared," she breathes, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Hey, you're safe now," I lean down and hug her.

"What about?" she begins to ask.

"They're safe too," I nod, and she closes her eyes with a smile, and I lay down by her side, pulling her close to me. At last, we're finally together.
