TWO| this is awkward

To everyone's surprise, we did not drop dead from radiation. I stayed in the back of the group as all the excited teenagers eagerly ran out of the dropship. I had never breathed air this fresh before. Earth was beautiful; just as beautiful as I imagined. Archie and I stepped onto the hard dirt last. He glanced around as the air buzzed with conversation. My eyes were looking for one person: Bellamy. I had to face him at some point. I knew it would be impossible to hide from him forever, but my stomach ignited with nerves when I thought about having to tell him about my memories.

He was talking with his sister as Archie went to chat with Miller, but before I could walk over to him, I noticed Wells and Clarke in a quiet conversation by the edge of the dropship. I noticed from their faces that something was wrong.

I walked up to them, "Why do you two look so grumpy?"

Wells glanced at me, clearly still angry at me, "We have no way to communicate with the Ark. It's all dead."

"So?" I asked.

"So, how are they going to know it's safe to come down?" Clarke asked me. "All three of us know they have limited time up there."

Oh yeah, the oxygen issue, "Well, that's not exactly our problem anymore," they both gave me astonished looks.

"Yes, it is," Wells said. "People we care about are still on the Ark."

"Maybe for you," did he not realize that I didn't give a shit about anyone left on that Space Station?

Wells looked at me with disappointment in his eyes, "The Harley I used to know actually cared about saving people."

"Don't try to guilt-trip me, Wells," I fired back. "Do you honestly think your father gives a shit about any of us? Obviously not, because he sent all of us down here to die, so like I said, it's not my problem."

I was so tired of Wells trying to pretend like I was the same person he knew on the Ark before everything happened with my father. I honestly didn't know if we could ever be friends again. I turned around, which only made me realize I had just traded one problem for another.

There Bellamy stood, his chestnut eyes staring at me in disbelief. They were full of more emotions than I had ever seen in someone's gaze. He looked at me like he was afraid I wasn't real, as if in a few moments, he would wake up from a really good dream. Octavia stood behind him, looking at me with equal surprise. This was going to be awkward.

Bellamy finally spoke, "Harley?" I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could get one word out, he rushed up to me, enveloping me in a desperate hug. I felt him let out a heavy sigh filled with relief as he stroked my hair. "I can't believe it. You're actually here. How are you here? They told me you were in quarantine."

So that was why he had never come to see me while I was in the SkyBox; because of some lie from Doctor Griffin. I pulled back, confusion on his face when he realized that I didn't share the same happy attitude he did. I knew my words were going to rip him apart, but I had to tell him.

"Bellamy, I..." I took a deep breath. "When I woke up, I couldn't remember anything from three months before the explosion."

"What are you saying?" He asked with hurt in his voice.

"I'm saying that I don't remember being your girlfriend," the words stung as they came out of my mouth. I could see the pain and denial in Bellamy's expressive eyes. "I'm sorry."

Bellamy looked like he didn't want to believe anything I told him, but he never got the chance to ask me anything else. From behind me, I heard Jasper offer to buy Clarke a drink, and Wells told him to back off, shoving him right into my back. I stumbled forward slightly, turning around with annoyance on my face.

"Watch it."

"Hey, hey, hey," my head snapped to the left at that voice. My eyes narrowed when I saw no other than John Murphy and his gang of asshats walking up to Wells. "Easy. Hands off him. He's with us." My jaw clenched as Murphy's eyes fell on me. "And you, I heard you were down here, Winters."

I nodded, "Which is unfortunate for you."

"Oh, and why's that?" He asked.

I took a threatening step close to him, "Because down here, there's nothing stopping me from kicking your ass."

"Harley-" Wells reached out to tell me to calm down, but I dismissed his touch.

"You know what, Winters," Murphy looked around. "You better watch your back."

Wells finally stepped between us, "Both of you need to relax. We need to focus on figuring out where we are."

"We're on the ground," The group turned their eyes to Bellamy as he walked up to them. Most of the teenagers gathered around to watch the scene unfold. "That not good enough for you?"

Wells looked at Bellamy as he spoke loud enough for everyone to hear, "We need to find Mount Weather. You heard my father's message. That has to be our top priority." Bringing up his father was definitely not a smart move. I crossed my arms over my chest as I stood beside Jasper.

"Screw your father," Octavia said. She was right about that. "What? You think you're in charge here? You, and your little princess?"

This was going downhill fast, "Do you think we care who's in charge?" Clarke asked. Oh no, here came a big speech. "We need to get to Mount Weather. Not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get, and the harder this'll be. How long do you think we'll last without those supplies?" I looked around, noticing most people not really listening. "We're looking at a twenty-mile trek, okay. So, if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave. Now."

"I got a better idea," Bellamy said. "You two go. Find it for us. Let the privileged do the hard work for a change," Ouch. That was a low blow.

"Yeah!" Several shouted.

I glanced at the two of them, "I don't think they like you very much."

"Harley, you're not helping," Clarke answered.

Wells ignored both of us as he stepped forward, "You're not listening. We all need to go!"

Then, Murphy lurched forward, shoving Wells roughly. I clenched my fists, "Look at this everybody. It's the Chancellor of Earth."

"Shut up, Murphy," I fired at him.

Wells turned to him, "You think that's funny?"

Everything turned to chaos as Murphy attacked Wells, making him twist his ankle as he fell, "Hey! Cut it out !" I yelled at Murphy, trying to pull him back, but one of his minions grabbed me. "Let go of me!" I elbowed the minion in the gut, and then turned around and punched him in the nose, feeling an unpleasant crack in one of my knuckles. Why did punching people have to hurt? "You're all a bunch of idiots."

As Wells stood up and faced Murphy, I felt Bellamy beside me. He put his hand on my arm, "Harley, are you okay?"

"I'm fine. These dipshits just piss me off!" I gave Murphy's minions a hard glare that made them take a few steps back. "Yeah, keep backing up."

I turned my head back to Wells and Murphy, but before they could get into a useless fight, Finn jumped down from a ledge on the dropship out of nowhere like a freaking spider or something. How long had he been up there? He was so weird sometimes.

He landed between the two of them with his eyes on Murphy, "Kid has got one leg. How about you wait until it's a fair fight?"

Murphy looked him up and down with a hint of anger as Octavia stepped forward, "Hey Spacewalker," Finn looked over at her. "Rescue me next." Really Octavia? Really?

The crowd dispersed once they realized there would be no fight, and I felt Bellamy looking at me. My eyes met his as he studied my face, "You really don't remember anything from the three months we spent together?"

"No," I answered. "Look, I'm sorry about this situation, but as far as I'm concerned, you're not my boyfriend, so you don't have to worry about trying to protect me," I glanced over his shoulder at Octavia. "Besides, it seems like you have your hands full already."

I turned away from him, feeling a weird tug on my heart as I felt his intense stare on my back. I shook it off, walking up to Clarke and Wells as Clarke examined Wells's ankle. I leaned down as he winced every time Clarke moved it.

"How does it look?"

"He'll live," Clarke said. "It's just twisted."

"So, Mount Weather. When do we leave?" The three of us saw Finn approaching with raised eyebrows. He was eager.

"Right now," Clarke said as she stood up. She glanced at me as I joined her. "Are you coming, Harley?"

I shook my head, "No, I'm staying here to make sure all these idiots don't kill each other."

Wells glanced between Clarke and Finn, "How are the two of you going to carry enough food for one hundred?"

Finn looked behind him where Jasper and Monty stood chatting with Kate and Miller. He put his hands on their shoulders and pulled the two of them into the conversation, "Four of us. Can we go now?"

"Sounds like a party. Make it five," Octavia joined in.

Bellamy immediately stepped in too with protest, "Hey, what the hell are you doing?"

"Going for a walk."

Clarke interrupted them as she stepped towards Finn, "Hey, were you trying to take this off?" She examined his cracked wristband.

"Yeah, so?"

"So, this wristband transmits your vital signs to the Ark. Take it off, and they'll think you're dead," Interesting. I noticed Bellamy thinking to himself.

"Should I care?" Finn asked. Great question.

"Well, I don't know. Do you want the people you love to think you're dead?" Clarke responded. "Do you want them to follow you down here in two months because they won't if they think we're dying." Finn got the message as Clarke gave him a small nod. "Okay, now let's go."

Clarke and Finn started to walk away with Jasper and Monty as Octavia gave Bellamy a pleading look. He gave in, "Go on."

She kissed him on the cheek before running off with the others. Once they were out of sight, I glanced down at my wristband pondering what I wanted to do. Take it off out of spite for Jaha, or keep it on because the Ark was dying and desperate?

I looked up from my wristband as I locked eyes with Bellamy, "Hey, wanna piss off the Council?"

A small grin formed on his face, "Always."

――――

Bellamy and I formed a plan to encourage as many people as we could to take off their wristbands, and I knew most people would look me like I was a bad guy, but in a way, it felt like revenge for me and my father. A tiny part of my mind was yelling at me that this wasn't the right thing to do, but when given a chance to mess with Jaha and the Council, well, how could I pass that up? Miller and Kate were already in, and of course, Archie didn't take much convincing. He loved making people mad too.

Unfortunately, though, Murphy and his crew of dumbasses had now become Bellamy's crew of dumbasses, but something about Bellamy's presence made Murphy seem afraid to even look at me the wrong way. he never even said a word to me while Bellamy was around. I always caught him staring at me and then looking away quickly. He seemed to want to say a million different things to me at once, but he kept his thoughts to himself. I felt an unexplainable ache in my chest towards him. It was like my brain couldn't remember Bellamy, but my body did. Although, I appreciated the fact that he didn't bombard me with questions. He obviously knew me very well; well enough to know I would need space.

The sun trickled low in the sky and eventually went dark as we started a fire in the middle of camp. Several people had already put up tents and were hanging out inside of them, but eventually, when the fire grew higher, more people gathered around it.

I handed Miller a long piece of metal as he stood beside me. I turned to the circle of teenagers around me. I held up my arm, which was already free of a wristband, "This is my way of saying 'fuck you' to the people who floated my father. Who wants to join me?"

"Yeah, fuck the Chancellor!" Someone yelled.

"I'll take mine off!" Several said eagerly.

Bellamy stepped in, his commanding voice booming over the chatter, which was kind of hot, in an annoying way of course, "Anyone who wants to take off their wristband, make a line in front of Miller."

One after another, people stepped up to have their wristbands taken off. Everyone cheered as the wristbands were thrown into the fire. Archie, Kate, and Miller had already taken theirs off, and it was just a matter of time before we had the whole camp joining in.

I watched as a girl named Fox stepped up. She winced in pain as the piece of metal was jammed between her skin and the wristband, but a look of relief formed in her eyes when it clicked open. Murphy held up the wristband and people cheered even louder. He tossed it into fire, and Bellamy looked around.

"Who's next?"

"What the hell are you doing?"

Everyone stopped cheering. I spotted Wells limping to the middle of the circle. Oh no. This wouldn't be good. He looked between Bellamy and me, awaiting an explanation.

"We're liberating ourselves. What does it look like?" Bellamy answered.

"It looks like you're trying to get us all killed," Wells said loudly. "The communication system is dead. These wristbands are all we've got. Take them off, and the Ark will think we're dying; that's it not safe for them to follow."

"That's the point, Chancellor," Bellamy said mockingly, earning a few chuckles from the crowd. "We can take care of ourselves. Can't we?" He asked the group, who all responded with encouraging cheers.

Wells looked at me, "Why are you doing this, Harley?"

"You shouldn't have to ask that," I responded with heat in my tone. "The people up there don't give a shit about any of us, so why should we give a shit about them?"

"You think this is a game?" He asked. "Those aren't just our friends and our parents up there," he turned to everyone. "They're our farmers, our doctors, our engineers. I don't care what they tell you. We won't survive here on our own, and besides, if it really is safe, how could you not want the rest of our people to come down?"

"My people already are down," Bellamy motioned to the crowd. He pointed a finger to the sky. "Those people locked my people up," Emotion fluttered through his rough voice as he walked closer to Wells. "Those people killed my mother for the crime of having a second child. Your father did that."

"My father didn't write the laws."

"No, he enforced them, but not anymore; not here," I liked the way Bellamy was talking. "Here, there are no laws."

"Yeah! Cool!" Shouts came from the circle.

"Here, we do whatever the hell we want whenever the hell we want!" I liked the sound of that. "Now, you don't have to like it, Wells. You can even try to stop it or change it, kill me," Bellamy gave him a smirk. "You know why?" Wells responded with a cold stare. "Whatever the hell we want."

"Whatever the hell we want!" Murphy yelled out.

Then the chanting started, "Whatever the hell we want! Whatever the hell we want!"

Amongst all the chanting, Wells stepped forward, his angry eyes darting between Bellamy and I. I could feel the tension rising, but then, a miracle happened:

It started raining.

I had never felt rain before. It soaked my face, feeling nice against my sweaty skin. I looked up at the sky, letting myself get drenched in the cool water. In that single moment, I had never felt so free in my entire life.

"We need to collect this," Wells suggested.

"Whatever the hell you want," Bellamy replied.

Wells gave me one last glance before turning around, leaving Bellamy and I standing together under the downpour. I glanced at him; at the tiny water droplets running down his tan face. A warmness infiltrated my heart as he noticed my eyes on him, his gaze peering into me like he knew my every thought. I focused on the constellation of freckles dotting his face. They suited him.

A cocky smirk appeared on his lips, "Like what you see, princess?" Princess? Oh hell no.

I snapped myself out of my trance, rolling my eyes, "Yeah, you wish."

"It's okay. I know you like my freckles."

I gave him a sharp glare, "No. I don't actually."

"Whatever you say," his eyes were full of confidence that made annoyance rise in my chest. "Just try not to stare so much."

He knew exactly what he was doing. That cocky son of a bitch knew he was getting on my nerves, "I could say the same thing to you. I saw you staring too earlier. It's kind of creepy."

"What can I say? I like looking at you," his smirk only grew as I hit his arm.

I shook my head, "God, you're such an ass. Was I actually your girlfriend willingly or did I only go out with you because someone was forcing me at gunpoint?"

A flicker of flirtation bloomed in his gaze that made my heartbeat intensify. God, I hated the effect he had on me, "You definitely had no objections to being my girlfriend."

I took a challenging step towards him, "I know what you're doing, Bellamy. You're trying to be all flirty so I just fall for you all over again, but I'm not the same girl you knew on the Ark, so don't hold your breath."

He matched my tone with equal force, "Trust me, Harley, I can make you fall in love with me again," that stupid smirk appeared on his face. "After all, it was pretty easy the first time."

"Well, you're not off to a great start," I shot back.

He grinned, "I think this is about the same place we started on the Ark; you pretending not to like me to hide the fact that you're extremely attracted to me."

"You are so full of shit."

"I'm just stating the facts."

Why did he make me angry so easily? But not the same kind of anger I felt for Jaha or Murphy. This kind of angry was intense in a different way; almost like passion.

I locked eyes with him again, "Well, you can just give up now. It'll save you a lot of trouble."

"You want me to give up already?" Bellamy walked closer to me; up into my personal space. I tried to hide the fact that his closeness flustered me. "I haven't even started trying yet, princess."

That annoying smirk that I wanted to slap off his face stayed plastered on his lips as he walked away, and I had one new goal:

Do not fall for Bellamy Blake.
