Chapter 7
HEYYYYYYOOOOOO!!!! I haven't uploaded in a loooooong time, I know, I'm sorry. I am going to try updating as much as I can. I'll try for every Saturday when I finally get a break from college! (;ŏ﹏ŏ)
I lay in my bed, completely awake. I couldn't sleep at all.
The excitement of the next day kept me up and wouldn't let me go to sleep.
I quickly sat up and stared at the wall in front of me.
I started to think about my family. They were really proud of Lily and I for getting into UA.
Our mom, however, was not as ecstatic. She disapproved of the idea of us wanting to pursue a career in heroism and staying in the dorms made it a billion times worse.
But, that's just her way of saying she cares.
Our last class conversation didn't go so well. It was the day before we had to leave.
I overheard her talking to my dad about us.
"They are too young! If either of them die I am holding you responsible!" She yelled at him.
I had just wanted a glass of water, but upon hearing them, I hid behind a wall and continued to eavesdrop. It was wrong of me, I know that, but I was very curious to hear what she had to say.
"But, Baby, they aren't little anymore! They have to go out and explore!" My dad had replied to her in his usual cheery voice. "And if they decide that being heroes is too dangerous or that it isn't for them then they can leave. Easy as that!"
"No. I am not allowing it. They're not going."
"But-"
"That's all! I said they're not going so they're not! Cancel their trip!"
I felt a sharp pang in my chest as she said that. It was as if all my hopes and dreams just got crushed and thrown into an incinerator.
My dad snapped me out of the thought when he said: "Hey, come on now. Think about what that would do to the girls. It would hurt them more than getting knocked in the head by a falling building, and I can tell you, that hurts. A LOT. Just, try to be supportive. And when they come and visit they'll say 'mommy, look what I've accomplished!' and they'll be thanking you for letting them have this opportunity."
I started to feel hopeful that she would listen to what he had to say. But she was adamant.
The very next morning, she hid our suitcases so we wouldn't go. But we found them. She isn't very good at hiding things.
I drifted away from the memory as I remembered what time it was. I really needed to sleep. But I couldn't sleep.
After about 10 minutes, I decided to go downstairs to get some water. Hopefully I won't be eavesdropping on another conversation again.
I walked over to my door and quietly, I unlocked it and tiptoed out of the room and into the hallway. I headed straight for the kitchen and turned on the light and almost screamed at what I saw.
There was someone there already! I panicked for a moment but calmed down quickly after realising she was just one of my classmates.
"Hey," she said, bluntly.
"Uh… hey," I replied.
"You're Oji, right? What's up?"
"Oh, nothing much. I just… couldn't sleep."
"Ah, same. I thought that I'd come down and get some milk."
"Milk?"
"Yeah, it's supposed to help you sleep."
"Oh, yeah."
"So, what did you want?"
"Hm? Oh, I just wanted to get some water. I don't drink milk."
"How come?"
"I do not like the taste. And humans aren't supposed to drink milk anyway. It's bad for you."
"Ah. Really?"
"Yeah. At- at least… that's what my dad says."
It was quiet for a few moments before she turned to the pot on the stove and poured some of its contents into a mug. She proceeded to retrieve another mug from the cupboard and poured more of what was in the pot into it.
"Here." She said, handing me the mug.
"Oh… uh, thank you. What is it?" I asked, curious what the sweet smelling liquid in my mug was.
"Try it. It's nice." She muttered before taking a sip from her own mug.
I peered into the mug and decided there was no harm in trying it.
I took a sip and it was delicious!
"What is this?" I asked her, knowing full well what it was but still wishing for her to tell me what she did to make it taste so nice.
"It's milk. I just… added a few things to it."
"Do you always make it like this?"
"Yeah. Ben and I used to make it together all the time as kids."
"Hm? You knew Ben as a kid?"
"Yeah, we used to be besties."
"Oh, that's so nice!"
"Yeah, I guess. He changed though. He's changed a lot."
"Hm? How so?"
"Ah… don't… don't worry about it."
"Oh. Okay."
"Uhhh you'd better finish your milk. It'll get cold. And we have to go to bed soon."
"Yeah. Thanks Dere."
"Ah, so you remembered my name."
"Of course! I memorised everyone's names already!"
"How?"
"I don't know, haha."
We continued to chat for a bit longer.
We soon enough finished our milk and decided to go to bed.
That night, I had the best sleep I've had in a while.
See you next time!
Toodles! X3
