Second report
You arrived back at Beacon, you mind still filled with questions about the heartless that had tactically retreated...if you want to call it that. Determined to find some answers, you decided to call Yen Sid, to report your progress and inform him about the peculiar encounter. Perhaps he knew about it.
You walk up the flight of stairs leading up to the roof. You come to the fire exit and take a deep breath before pushing through the door and pulling out your gummi phone at the same time. You dial in Yen Sid's number and lean against the railing.
After a few moments, Yen Sid's face appeared on the screen, his wise eyes glued to the screen.
Yen Sid: Ah, (Y/n), it is good to see and hear from you. How has your mission been progressing?
(Y/n): Hello, Master Yen Sid. Overall, the mission has been going well. Successfully repelled a heartless attack in the city.
Yen Sid: What about the Keyhole?
Your master says abruptly which causes you to cringe and shrink back.
(Y/n): It's....well, the search has been tedious but I know I'm close. I can feel it!
You say triumphantly and look at Yen Sid to see him with a raised brow. You clear your throat and continue on.
(Y/n): There was something strange that happened. I encountered a heartless that didn't engage me. It quickly retreated as soon as it saw me with the keyblade. I've never seen anything like it before.
Yen Sid's expression grew thoughtful as he listened to your recount of tonight's earlier events. He stroked his beard in contemplation before responding.
Yen Sid: Interesting indeed. It is rare for a heartless to retreat from a keyblade wielder without engaging in battle...
(Y/n): That's what I was thinking, Master. I scouted the docks after the battle, but I couldn't find any trace of the heartless. It disappeared without a trace. I thought you might have some insight into this matter.
Yen Sid nodded, acknowledging your concerns.
Yen Sid: I understand your curiosity, (Y/n). Unfortunately, I don't have all the answers at the moment. However, it seems that this new development requires further investigation. Keep a close eye on any unusual heartless behavior and report back to me if you discover anything significant.
You narrow your eyes with a determined face and nod.
(Y/n): Understood, Master. I will continue to observe and gather information. Thank you for your guidance.
You were about to hang up but Yen Sid called out to you which caused you to look back at the phone's screen.
Yen Sid: (Y/n). Remember, knowledge is power, and understanding the heartless is crucial to protecting the balance between light and darkness. Stay vigilant, my apprentice.
With a final nod, the communication ended, leaving you deep in thought. You knew that finding answers wouldn't be easy.
Lost in thought, you remained on the rooftop, contemplating the mysterious heartless encounter.
As you leaned against the railing, still holding your gummi phone and staring at the black screen, you heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Your head perks up to see Pyrrha and Jaune open the door, weapons in hand. Looks like they had come to train.
Pyrrha: Oh, hey, (Y/n)! We didn't expect to see you up here.
Jaune: Yeah, we thought we'd have the rooftop to ourselves for training. Guess we'll have to find another spot.
You kick off the railing and walk towards them.
(Y/n): Oh, hey, Pyrrha and Jaune. Sorry for taking up the space. I was just making a call to my Master.
You point behind yourself at the wide open area of the roof.
(Y/n): The roof's all yours. I need to rest after today anyway.
They both look at each other before looking at you.
Pyrrha: Have you been hunting heartless all day again?
You look at her and shook your head.
(Y/n): No....well, sort of. Just been helping Blake today.
Jaune: Blake? Is everything alright?
(Y/n): Yeah, everything's fine. Just lending a hand with some personal stuff. Nothing to worry about.
Pyrrha: Well, if you ever need any assistance, you know we're here for you.
Jaune: Absolutely. We may not be on the same team, but we're all still friends.
You smile gratefully at their offer of support. Despite the weight of your own concerns, it's comforting to know that you have friends who are willing to stand by you.
(Y/n): Thanks, guys. I appreciate it. And by the way, how's your training going? Any progress?
You ask them, your question being more directly aimed at Jaune.
Pyrrha: We're making steady progress. Jaune's been working hard on his swordplay.
Jaune nods but then looks down.
Jaune: Still can't get the footing right though...
You smile and put your hand on Jaune's shoulder.
(Y/n): Hey, Rome wasn't built in a day. You'll get there eventually.
The two look at you. The word 'Rome' wondered in their minds. Shaking it off, Jaune asked you a question he had been wondering all of today.
Jaune: By the way, (Y/n). Do you know what happened to Cardin?
You raise a brow and cross your arms.
(Y/n): Uh...Can you be more specific?
Jaune: Well, I was going over some notes from Oobleck's class and he corrected some of my answers. Him being a bully, I thought he was just messing with me again so I double checked with Oobleck and...he said they were correct. Afterwards, he pulled me aside and said sorry and that himself and his team are done with messing with people.
You were...surprised. Did your talk with him really hit him hard? Despite the cringy ass pose at the end of the conversation between you two.
Pyrrha: Come to think of it...Velvet said he was very apologetic to her. Even said that her bunny ears were adorable.
Your eyes went wide. There's no way he said that...right?
(Y/n): Are you serious?
They both nod and you just smile which doesn't go unnoticed by the knight and spartan.
Pyrrha: Did you have something to do with this?
You looked to the side with a small blush of embarrassment.
(Y/n): Well...I may have had a conversation with Cardin recently. Let's just say that we had a heart-to-heart talk, and it seems like he's had a change of heart. I think he realized the error of his ways and wants to make amends.
You explained, not wanting to go into detail for...obvious reasons.
Jaune: Wow, that's...unexpected. I never thought I'd see the day when Cardin would apologize and change his attitude.
Pyrrha: It just goes to show that people can change if given the chance and the right influence.
You nod in agreement.
(Y/n): That's true. Sometimes, all it takes is a little understanding and empathy to make a difference. I'm glad to hear that Cardin is trying to make things right.
You turn away from them again and sweatdrop.
(Y/n): Even if I DID make an ass of myself in the process..
You think to yourself until Pyrrha snaps you out of your thinking by hugging you. You're surprised as she pulls back and looks at you.
Pyrrha: Thank you. You helped him and made it easier for people that go to this academy.
You smile and shrug.
(Y/n): I just wanted to give him a chance to change. I believe everyone deserves that opportunity.
You explain which gains a wide smile from Jaune and Pyrrha.
Jaune: You've got a big heart, (Y/n). I admire that about you.
(Y/n): Thank you, Jaune. That means a lot to me.
Pyrrha: Well, now that Cardin seems to be on the right path, maybe we can all focus on becoming better Huntsmen and Huntresses together.
You all share a determined smile. You eventually decide to turn in for the day as you wave goodbye to them and head down the flight of stairs.
(Y/n): Hmm...if keyblading doesn't work out, could make for a damn fine therapist I guess.
You think as you enter through the hallways of the first year's dormitorys.
As you make your way through the hallways of the first-year dormitories, you approach the door to Team RWBY's room. You quietly open the door and step inside, hoping not to disturb their slumber. The room is dimly lit, with the soft glow of moonlight seeping in through the curtains.
You take a moment to observe the peaceful scene before you. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are all fast asleep in their respective beds. They look so peaceful and serene, their worries and burdens of today momentarily forgotten in the embrace of sleep.
Feeling a sense of comfort wash over you, you decide to rest on the floor, not wanting to disturb their sleep any further. As you lower yourself down, you catch a glimpse of Ruby stirring in her bed. Your head turns to fully face her bed. Her silver eyes are wide open, watching you intently.
Startled, you freeze in place, unsure of how to react. Ruby's gaze is unwavering, as if she's trying to decipher something.
Ruby: (Y/n)...what did you promise...?
Her voice is soft, barely audible, but it sends a chill down your spine. You quickly rack your brain, trying to recall any promises you might have made to Ruby. But nothing comes to mind.
(Y/n): Promise? Uh...yeah! Pfft. Of course I remember....
Silence fills the air as Ruby's eyes narrow slightly, her expression filled with annoyance as the sweat bullets keep on coming.
Ruby: ...You said...you were going to bunk with me tonight. You promised...
She begins to pout. You let out a sigh of relief thinking you had forgotten her birthday or something.
(Y/n): Jeez. Don't do that Rubes.
You stand up after mentally facepalming yourself and look up at her. You analyse the bed and sweat drop.
(Y/n): Can this even support two people..?
You wondered. Eventually you shrug and use the end of Weiss' bed to step up before climbing up fully onto Ruby's bed and crawl forward until your whole body was secure on top of the hanging deathtrap.
(Y/n): Phew...okay, yeah. Steady movements.
You say to yourself as you crawl next to Ruby who is sitting up watching you with a smile. As you make yourself comfortable, you can't help but feel a sense of warmth and belonging in this moment.
(Y/n): So, what's on your mind? Couldn't sleep straight away like the others when we got back?
Ruby nods, she looks down at her hands.
Ruby: Yeah, I guess I just have a lot on my mind. It's hard not to think about everything that's happened and what might happen in the future. Sometimes, it feels overwhelming.
You nod with some understanding to her words. You lay your head on the second pillow she had and look up at the ceiling.
(Y/n): Ain't that the truth.
Ruby looks up at you, her eyes filled with curiosity.
Ruby: I've been meaning to have an opportunity to talk to you. It's nothing bad, I just wanted to ask you some questions.
You smile and nod your head.
(Y/n): Of course, Ruby. Ask away.
Ruby's eyes light up, and she sits up a little straighter.
Ruby: Okay, first question. What made you want to become a keyblade wielder?
You ponder on her question and hum. After gathering your thoughts, you respond.
(Y/n): Well, Ruby, becoming a keyblade wielder was something that happened unexpectedly for me. I never actively sought out this path, but when the opportunity presented itself, I knew deep down that it was meant for me. The idea of wielding a weapon that can unlock the power within oneself and protect the worlds-I MEAN...world, from darkness was incredibly appealing to me. I wanted to be a part of something greater, something that could make a difference in what appeared to be an ongoing battle.
Ruby listens intently, her eyes shining with curiosity.
Ruby: That sounds amazing. It must be incredible to have that kind of power and responsibility.
You nod, a hint of seriousness in your voice.
(Y/n): It is, Ruby. But more importantly, it's a big responsibility. Power alone isn't enough, there's also control. It's not always easy, but the rewards are worth it in the end.
Ruby smiles, her eyes filled with determination.
Ruby: I can see that. I want to be a huntress to protect people and make a difference, just like you do as a keyblade wielder.
You smile warmly at her.
(Y/n): And I have no doubt that you'll achieve that, Ruby. I have a feeling that you have what it takes to become a true hero, and I believe in you.
Ruby blushes slightly but continues with her questions.
Ruby: Okay, next question. What's your favorite thing about being a keyblade wielder?
You pause for a moment, reflecting on your experiences.
(Y/n): There are many things I love about being a keyblade wielder, but if I had to choose one, it would be the connections I've made with others.
Ruby tilts her head.
Ruby: Connections with others?
You look at her with a smile.
(Y/n): Yeah. 'Others' being you guys and other people in this school.
You sit up on one arm.
(Y/n): Even though this is my first mission. I feel as if becoming close with you all has made me stronger in a way.
Ruby's blush deepens, putting the colour of her iconic hood to shame. Regardless, she continues with her questions.
Ruby: Okay, next question. What's your favorite thing about being a part of Team RWBY?
You pause for a moment, reflecting on your time with the team.
(Y/n): Hmm...well besides the first meeting when you guys basically knocked me out, then interrogated me, then almost suffocated me- Oh wait, that was a Yang thing.
You see Ruby look as if she was being shot by arrows by every bad thing you said so far. You panicked slightly and quickly turned the conversation around.
(Y/n): Anyway! My favorite thing about being a part of Team RWBY is the sense of camaraderie and friendship that we share. We've been through so much together, and I feel incredibly grateful to have such amazing friends by my side. We support and uplift each other, and together, we overcome any obstacle that comes our way. The bond we have is truly special, and it's something that I cherish deeply.
Ruby's eyes light up, and she smiles brightly.
Ruby: That's exactly how I feel! Team RWBY is like a second family to me, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
You reach out and squeeze her hand, a silent gesture of solidarity.
(Y/n): And we're grateful for you, Ruby. You bring so much light and positivity to our team. You're the soul that keeps us going.
Ruby's cheeks turn a deeper shade of red, she looks away embarrassed which causes you to smile and raise a brow.
(Y/n): You okay?
Ruby: Y-Yeah! I-I think I'm starting to feel the tiredness of the sad settle in. I'll call it from here.
You chuckle and nod.
(Y/n): Fair enough. I'll try to get some Z's as well.
Ruby nods and slams her head into her pillow.
Ruby: Goodnight.
(Y/n): Goodnight.
It doesn't take long before the beauty of sleep takes you out and puts you in a slumbering state.
Ruby turns her head to make sure you're asleep. When she's sure, she turns her whole body to face you. She smiles and your sleeping form and puts her hand on your cheek, feeling the warmth that graces it.
Ruby: I may be the soul, (Y/n). But you are the heart....Our heart.
She thinks to herself as she slowly and gently closes in to you and snuggles into your chest.
