Jets pov

I read over the letter as my excitement grew and grew.

"I did it" I muttered to myself "I'm really a pilot!"

I ran over to the picture of my mom and hugged it "I did it mama. I became a pilot just like I promised I would!" I wish she could have been around to see it but I guess not everything can be perfect.

I looked in the mirror and grinned "alright jet time to get your uniform on!"

*time skip*

"I'm here sir" I ran up to my commanding officer. I was about ten minutes late but I'm sure he won't be too mad!

"and who are you?" he raised an eyebrow.

"jet the hawk reporting for duty sir!" I saluted him.

"ahh your the young man who got the highest score on our flight test" he smiled at me "I see good things in your future young man"

I was brimming with pride. He thinks I'm awesome. Well of course he does I am awesome!

"alright kid hop in that plane. We're sending you and a group of others out to survey some enemy land to show us where the best place to attack is"

"will do sir!" I saluted again before putting my goggles on and hoping in the plane.

*time skip*

I couldn't believe it. I was really flying a plane. Feeling the wind in my feathers, the feeling of freedom at my fingertips. It was a feeling I couldn't really discribed. All I could say was that I was really happy right now-

My thoughts were cut off by an explosion. I turned around to see one of my crew mates planes going down. I couldn't believe it. Their really shooting at us!

I looked down at where the plane landed. I could make out the outline of a bluejay struggling in his plane. He was stuck but alive!

"damnit! Everyone retreat!" our commanding officer ordered.

"but sir one of our men got hit. He's still alive down there" I argued.

"leave him. He's of no use to us anymore" he said coldly.

"sorry sir but I can't do that. No man gets left behind" with that I hung up and flew down to where the bluejay was.

I jumped out of my plane and ran to him "it's alright. I'm here to help you" I smiled at him reassuringly before grabbing him and pulling him out of his seat.

I could hear our enemies running towards us. I dragged the bluejay to the plane and took off.

If only I knew what a huge mistake that was..
