Chapter 4
Year 2085, Age 18
4 years have passed since my parents and my sister Ash took off to Nedroj. People call me stupid, for not going with them.... And sometimes... I believe them....
But then, I'm reminded of the various people on earth who don't have the privilege to go to Nedroj. The people, who'll have to suffer mother nature's wrath.
I could have easily saved myself, in fact, my parents begged me to go with them and Ash was all in tears. But I refused. I needed to find a way to save the earth and its people. It has been proving difficult though. Each day, the conditions worsen and governments still refuse to take strong action against industries.
They think, development is way more important than saving earth, and, for development, small sacrifices must be made. But don't they understand?! If we don't save earth there won't BE an earth leaving these 'developments' useless!
I live in a hostel now because my old home got swept away in a tornado that was just another affect of climate change. One of many in fact.......
I look outside the window and see a huge sandstorm making its way...and we don't even live near a desert. I ready my emergency backpack just in case the hostel decides it wants to fall down.
-Time skip-
All I can see around me is dust. The ground suddenly starts shaking. An earthquake. I grab my backpack and rush down the stairs shouting to the others to do the same. The intensity keeps increasing. I open my phone. And search the live report. Turns out we were experiencing a 7 on the Richter scale.
Alarms are blaring everywhere, sirens wailing, cars beeping, people screaming and kids crying in their parents hands. It's pure chaos.
I faintly hear an announcement going on.
"An emergency has been declared by the government and as a necessary procedure everyone is now required to board the rockets going to Nedroj. Within 48 hours we expect the entire earth to evacuate. This will be the last call, those who wish to stay here shall live at their own cost. This same announcement is being played in each and every part of the...." the announcement cuts off because of the intensity of tremors. Great. Now they choose to take action. Just great. Why do they always wait for THE LAST MOMENT to do so?
I sit down huddled in a corner next to what seems like a strong pillar.. To be honest I wasn't even sure because the sand blocked my vision. After what seems like ages, the sand finally sets down. The crying of children still doesn't die down though.. The earthquake had stopped about half an hour ago which was still quite a long time for an earthquake. 45 minutes.
I make my way to the base. In fact, that's where everyone was heading..
I suddenly see two twins who hardly looked 5 years old screaming, under piles of rubble. Their faces were bloody and I could see their parents lying nearby, unconscious... or dead...
I rushed to their aid. Nobody except me even gave them a second glance. I tried asking people for help but they were too busy helping their own family and were rushing to the base.
I somehow managed to get them out but not before hurting me and them in the process..
"Where is mommy?" they asked, but I had no reply........
