10 WEEKS INTO TEMPEST'S PREGNANCY

A dark and sorrowful harmony filled the walls of the prison, it began soft and quiet but soon grew in volume until the song was echoing throughout the four walls. The melody snuck under the doors and bled into the cracks of the walls until it reached the ears of the people it was intended for.

Everyone believed the most interesting thing about the Martians ended with the wings attached to their spines. The humans had spent about ten years on Mars before the war, teaching them English and learning about their culture. They were dazzled by what was on the outside, mesmerized by their wings and their sharp feathers.

They had no idea how good they were at singing.

"Do you hear that?" One of the guards entrusted with the sundown shift asked the other. He'd wondered if his ears were playing tricks on him or if someone around was playing some really good music. When he turned his head he was met with his partner fumbling with the door as he tried opening the entrance to the prison in a rush. "Mark? What are you doing?"

He got to his feet and went to tap him on the shoulder, after shaking him a bit he tried turning Mark around as he seemed to not be focused on anything but opening the door. When Mark finally faced him the man recoiled slightly at the sight of Mark's completely dilated eyes, his head swaying slightly. Mark barely spared him a glance before continuing to try open the door.

"Hey," The man tried to stop him "Hey! What are you doing?"

Mark gave up on the handle and instead settled on yanking the door repeatedly, his fingers like steel around the handles. The man fumbled with his communicator, about to call help when Mark yanked the door again, causing it to crack open slightly and louder music poured into the room like honey.

The notes danced around the humans head, causing his thoughts to spin and soon his mind went blank too. "Mark stop," He told him, reaching for the padlock again, "This is how to open it."

Once the doors were open the song was free to travel all over the building until hoards of humans were travelling towards the prison. Their braids led them to a prison cell that's door was wide open, the largest cell in the whole prison as it was combined with three others to create more space.

Tempest stood by the door of the cell, watching as the humans shuffled around her room like mindless animals. They shifted around each other, in an almost drone-like dance, swaying slightly as they enjoyed the music. When she felt as if enough humans had entered the cell she herself left it, closing the door behind her and watching as they all began to move towards the bars and press themselves against it.

Memory of the night that ruined her life helped her maneuver her way around the building, ignoring the pin-prick pain in her shoulders, arms and legs from the amount of needles that had been stuck in her over the last month. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the exit Ambrose had taken her too and she pulled out the keycard he'd lost before holding it to the door in the same place she'd seen him do it.

Her gaze fell at the red light that flashed on the door instead of the green one that was supposed to. She gritted her teeth together, dropping the keycard before taking a step back. Her feathers unfolded behind her and she stretched them out before throwing her wings to the metal door.

The sharp horn at the edge of her wings slashed the metal, cutting through it as she threw her wings against it over and over and over again until she could see the sun.

Once a hold was made she used her own fingers to pry the rest of the metal open, ignoring the red blood that poured down her hands. She ripped open the metal with my nails and crawled through the hole on hher hands and knee when she'd createdwhen it was big enough. Her wings got scratched up and some feathers even torn off by the open metal but she could barely feel it with the adrenaline rushing through her veings.

And for the first time since she'd seen Ambrose, she felt the sun.

It felt cold.

But there it was.

Orange and yellow and all the shades of her freedom, so close she could almost taste it. Her wings spread out, brown and bloody and filled with the air around her and with one motion from her shoulders her feet were off the ground.

Ambrose was asleep.

Fraternity leave as he liked to call it.

And everyone knew that when Ambrose was asleep he had his white noise machine on to cancel out the sound of his thoughts. To be fair he had been super stressed as of later.

1.Designing the crib

2.Deciding whether he wanted a natural birth or epidural

And don't even get him started on the name. He was set on Ambrose junior for his baby boy but the whole dome was insisting he call the baby something else, maybe a biblical name. As if he had ever read the bible.

Tempest had surprisingly been adjusting well too, he thought she might had got a little dramatic after everything that had happened but it seemed like he'd finally drained all thee fight from her. These days she just sat in her cell staring at the wall. He was going to visit her, give her a little company maybe but the doctors insisted he might make her hysterical which was a huge no no for the baby coming.

So, he promised himself he'd see her after the birth, maybe discuss siblings for their Aj.

But what was a surprise was that he ended up sleeping through his alarm, by five minutes but five minutes too long considering he was supposed to be meeting up with the designers for the nursery. A bigger surprise was when he walked out of his chambers and his entire floor was empty. His assistant was not at her desk and the café people were not at the café.

There were absolutely no guards at every corner he walked past and no workers at every desk he saw.

Did he forget someone's birthday again?

Why was he still paying his assistant if she wasn't informing him of these celebrations at least the day before it happened. He began to make his way to the announcement hall in a rush, he couldn't afford to miss another person's cake being cut. People tend to get really hung up about that stuff.

And now he was standing in the middle of the empty hall, confused and alone.

"What the fuck is going on?" He cursed, storming off to Teegan's office where he knew the CCTV footage would be.

He opened her door with his infinity card and began swiping through the cameras, switching from each corner of every office until he realized that everyone was truly gone. And then he drowned in panic.

His child?

Clicking the mouse quickly he switched from camera to camera until he was looking at the footage of the prison where he expected to see his baby mama sitting in. What he was not expecting however was to see every member of his staff banging on the bars of the jailcell.

Outside of the cell stood Tempest who seemed to be locking the humans inside in her place.

He zoomed into the footage, noticing the dazed expressions on all of their faces and then he zoomed into Tempest who had her lips moving as if she were speaking to them but watching her neck move he realized that was not the case at all.

She was singing.

As soon as she was done he used the cameras to track her movements around the building almost amused at the way she was running as if she knew where she was going until he realized that she did. She was going to try and escape. He rushed out of Teegans office and went to the storage room where they kept all their weapons and grabbed a crossbow, a weapon that came in handy during the war when they realized that shooting down the Martians would be much more beneficial in the long run than killing them straight out of the sky.

Tempest was close.

She could feel how close she was until an arrow, went straight through her left wing. She stopped midair and turned around to face her attacker and she almost stopped flapping when her eyes zoned in on Ambrose. Tempest barely had enough time to register how hurt she was when he began to aim for her again.

He was a lowsy shot.

Now that she knew the arrows were coming she could dodge them easy by flying erratically. She was going to get out of here, she didn't care was he thought about it and she surely wasn't going to raise their baby her. The sun was getting closer and her freedom felt even nearer until she touched it.

And then Tempest was confused.

She was touching the sun.

Her hands ran over the flat and bright surface she was feeling, it was cold and as she continued to press up on it she realized it was metallic. It wasn't real. Her eyes began darting around herself and she suddenly began noticing the cone shape around her, This was another cage, she was stuck in another cage.

Pain bloomed in her spine and burst from her back as she realized she'd been shot. Her wings stopped flapping and her eyes welled up in tears as they remained on the fake sun as she began to fall from the sky. She curled her wings in a spiral to prepare for the landing but it was easy to land on sand, much harder to land on solid brick.

She unraveled her body from her wings and let out a cry as her arms tried to reach for the intrusion in her flesh, she stretched and wriggled but she couldn't reach it, but she could certainly still feel it. "Tempest!"

The sound of Ambrose's voice had panic running through her veins as she slowly got to her feet and began limping away. Heavy and fast footsteps were heard behind her as she tried to move faster but was bruised from head to toe. The person behind her began walking, "Tempest it's over."

She didn't believe that, she would still get away, the both of them.

Her bare feet tripped over nothing sending her to her knees as she struggled to get back on her feet but ended up falling to her knees again. Tears poured down her face as the footsteps stopped and she knew she'd lost. "Remember, you made me do this."

Her right wing was tugged back and she let out a shriek as she tried to crawl away but the grip was iron tight. Her fingernails dug into the bricks as she tried to pull herself away but then she heard something being pulled out. The last thing she saw was the reflection of her teary eyes in the large silver knife in Ambrose's fist as he brought it down towards her wings.
