~~~~~~~~~ one year ~~~~~~~~~
A whole year had passed since Grace had to leave and Sage was as bored as ever. Her friend still hadn't visited and she was struggling to make friends at school.
Ping
Sage sits up on her bed and looks to the window and opens it. "Grace!"she squeals. Grace grins and waves at her eagerly.
"Come on. Let's get going!"she calls. Sage runs out of her room and downstairs. "I'm just going to the park grandma,"she tells her guardian and slips her shoes on as she receives an approving nod from her grandmother.
Grace laughs as Sage runs at her with a hug. "I see you're allowed out of the house then?"
"Yeah. Wanna go to the local park or something?"
"You know I can't. I can only stay in the woods,"she sighs and ruffles her younger friend's hair. "You still got my music box?"
"Of course! What'd you think I'd do with it?"
"I dunno sell it? I did rub off of you quite a bit,"Grace shrugs as they walk through the woods.
~~~~~~~~~ two years ~~~~~~~~~
Grace swings around in a tree by the spring she drank from two years ago. She wasn't supposed to be there but she just couldn't help but visit Anna and Beck on their sixth birthday. She climbs slightly higher up to a more covered place in the tree. She spots a teenage boy around her immortal age running towards the spring.
"Come on I think I see water up ahead!"the boy yells and points to the spring as the older one soon follows.
"Slow down, boys!"a woman, most likely their mother, calls to them.
"Are you kidding, ma? We're dying of thirst!"the older boy calls back to the woman.
"This spring is a good omen,"a man says and follows behind the woman. "Where there's water there's opportunity,"he adds and brings out some cups.
Oh those poor idiots they're gonna be on a declination balance between a blessing and a curse like myself.
"Let 1808 be our best year yet,"the man says as the family raise their cups
"To the, Tucks!"he says.
Gonna have to remember that name.
"To the, Tucks!"the family repeat and drink the water. They start to set up their camp by the spring and the youngest boy starts to fumble around with the equipment.
"Jesse go explore the woods!"the older boy snaps and starts to clean up the younger one's, 'Jesse', mess. This would be her chance to warm them.
Grace follows him along in the trees and climbs down behind him but mutters under her breath when he climbs a tree again. She follows him up and taps his shoulder. "Hey you're Jesse right?"
"Y-yeah. How'd you know?"
"I'm not stupid and I heard your brother I'm assuming tell you to go explore the woods,"she replies bluntly. "You drank from the spring right?"
Jesse nods, a look of confusion starts to spread across his face.
"Right well the name is Grace MacKay. I'm seventeen. I'm gonna give you this one bit of advice that you've gotta remember alright?"she tells him sternly. Jesse nods again.
"It takes ten years to forget a face. Alright?"she tells him. Jesse looks at her confused again. "Don't question it just go with it!"
Jesse nods once more. "Alright alright! Ten years to forget a face,"he repeats.
"Alright I'm probably going to run into you again somewhere so see you around," Grace says and climbs down the tree quickly and runs off into the woods. Jesse sits there for a few seconds trying to comprehend what had just happened and then climbs back down.
~~~~~~~~~ three years ~~~~~~~~~
Grace climbs into the tree. Yes she shouldn't be there but she couldn't help it. She wanted to keep a close eye on her best friend. She smiles as she hears Sage calling someone to follow her up the trees. She looks to the tree they were in. Their tree. At least Sage still knew where it was.
"Come on, get up here!"Sage calls.
"Alright Sagie!"the other girl calls. That's what she used to call Sage to annoy her.
"Let's go this is our tree. I gotta teach you how to climb it!"Sage calls down and climbs through the branches a couple of trees away. Their tree? This is our tree. Well technically it's the Foster's.
Grace climbs slightly higher and sits in a slightly more hidden branch. She watches the two girls carefully as they laugh and joke together for a few hours, dangling about like Grace and Sage used to.
Although Grace knew she should've been happy for her friend, she couldn't help but feel envious. She was happy that her friend had something like that again but wished she had something like that for herself.
"You're the best partner in crime I could ever ask for,"Sage tells the girl and dangles upside down by her legs.
"And you are too Sage,"the girl replies. Grace feels something in her snap and starts to climb away towards where she'd left her stuff.
~~~~~~~~~ nine years ~~~~~~~~~
Sage sighs and looks into the mirror she had everyone she cared for there with her except for one person. Grace. Her best friend. Sure she had another best friend, Ally, but it wasn't the same without Grace.
Sage looks at her wedding dress. It was horrible. An itchy, uncomfortable piece of material. She turns her attention to a knock at the door and calls for the person to come in.
Her face lights up as she sees Anna, Beck Liberty and Grace's mother, Rose, at the door. A smile spreads on her face and she hugs them. "Thank you so much for being here."
"It's the least we can do since Grace isn't here,"Anna smiles. Anna was a lot more different from when Grace left but Sage has practically become a part of their family.
"And we've got you a different dress because that one looks horrible,"Liberty replies and presents a sleek white dress from behind her back. It's was Liberty's from when she got married.
Sage gasps at the dress. "Lib I couldn't."
"No you can. We're going to help you dress how you would like to dress,"Rose says and sits Sage down as they start to do her hair.
Soon Sage was walking down the aisle to her soon to be husband being walked down by her grandmother. She stops at the altar and holds her groom's hands. She smiles at him and mouths 'I love you' and her smile grows when he mouths 'I love you' back.
As he starts to say his vows her attention is drawn to a movement in the tree about ten feet away. Their wedding was a small outdoors
one in the woods that only had their friends and family.
Sage watches the tree intently but looks back to her groom and turns her attention away from the branch as the wedding commences.
