The Reception

~{Y/N}'s POV~

Mina, Matt, Mello and I bursted out of the private room and went down the stairs to the main floor of the banquet hall.

Fuck yeah!! Let's do this shit!!

"We'll spilt off here, but we'll see you two on the other side, alright?" Matt mumbled, and Mello and I nodded.

Matt left with Mina, leaving Mello and I alone. I placed my head on his shoulder as they let the groomsmen and the bridal party inside the gigantic hall.

"I love you, Mello. I've always loved you." I whispered.

"I know. I've always loved you too." He replied, and the doors opened as we were called on to walk inside. When our guests saw us, it was madness.

Everyone was cheering, and to be honest, it felt really good. Seeing everyone so happy about our union, it made me feel like we were... Right.

That we were meant to be.

"Oi, we're gonna sit over there." Mello said, pointing to a long, fancy table at the front of the room. I followed him as he practically pulled me to our seats.

We sat down and then Matt stood up and grabbed a microphone from the hidden DJ booth. Mafia perks. This is paid for by our Mafia perks.

"Hey, everyone! I'm sure that you all know me, my name's Matt. And tonight, I'm gonna run this show!! Or... Wedding reception! So, first we're gonna get something to eat, and then while you're eating, we'll call people up to do speeches, alright?" Matt announced as Mina hid her face with her hands at their table.

I chuckled and stood up. "Let's go get some food, Mel." I whispered, and he shook his head.

"Matt'll bring us our food. Sit down and relax, babe." He ordered.

I obeyed and sat back down in my seat, resting my hand on Mello's leg. He gave me a gentle look before placing his head on my shoulder. Matt came up to the table and smiled. "You hungry? What do you want?"

I grinned. "Food, I presume. I don't care."

"Mello?"

"Whatever {Y/N}'s eating. I don't have a preference." He grumbled, and Matt nodded and ran to where the food was. He came back a few minutes later with
2 plates that were filled with food.

"Thanks, Matty!" I whisper-yelled and he blew me a kiss. Yes, my best friend blew me a kiss. At my wedding reception.

"He's such a nerd..." Mello muttered, and I giggled.

"I think that's why we're so close. He's a nerd; I'm a nerd. Perfect duo."

"You make it sound as if you married him not me." He pouted, and I kissed his cheek.

"Mello. What do I do with you?"

Mello grinned pervertedly and answered, "Stuff. In a bed."

I blushed, but rolled my eyes. "You're such a pervert." I said, eating my food

He bit into some of his food with a victorious smirk. "I know. But I'm your pervert."

Well, at least he knows his place.

After a while, everyone had finished eating, so Matty took the microphone again. "Well, now that we've all eaten our fill, how about a few speeches? Any volunteers?"

The room was dead silent, until I heard a small, 'I'll go' from a table in the distance.

Near.

"Ah, Near! Sure, come up and say what you want!" Matt cheered, and the white-haired boy stood and took the microphone.

"H-hello, everyone, I'm Near, a friend of {Y/N} and Mello. We lived at the orphanage together." He began. "And I've never known a better couple than them. Honestly, when I first found out about them liking each other, it was {Y/N} that came to me. She needed advice on what to do with Mello now that he knew that they liked each other. I didn't really give her good advice, since I didn't know about romance and that kind of stuff. But I knew she'd figure it out on her own. She was, and still is, extremely intelligent."

Near paused to smile up at me, as I returned the favour.

"Then, when L died, Mello left Wammy's House and {Y/N} followed, we lost touch for a while. We still called each other once in a blue moon, but our contact was minimal. But then, 2 years later, she called out of the blue with good news. She was pregnant with Lawliet. I was excited for them. {Y/N} was always like an older sister, and Mello... Mello was my rival. And to think that they'd really end up together... I was happy for them. So I started coming around. When Law was born, and even now. I'm happy that I started coming around, because I'll never know a couple I love more than Mello and {Y/N}."

The room was quiet, and then the fact that Near was finished sunk in, causing applause to ring out. I smiled at Near, who blushed and went sheepishly back to his seat.

"That was so sweet!" I thought aloud, and Mello put his arm around my shoulders.

"I hate to admit it, but it really was." He told me, right before clicking his tongue. "Matt's up next, I think."

And he was right. Matt took the microphone into his hand again and grinned up at us. "Well, since Near went, how about I say something next, huh?"

I gulped, because I knew Matt like the back of my hand. He knew tons of embarrassing stories about not only me, but Mello as well. But still, I nodded, indicating that he could speak as he wished.

"Well, everyone, you know my name's Matt, and you probably also know that I've known these two idiots for as long as Near has. Maybe even a bit longer. And if this wasn't their wedding, I'd be embarrassing them with memories and stories about their stupid mistakes. And believe me, there are a lot of those stories to tell. But today's about them. I've never known 2 people that were more suited for each other than Mello and {Y/N}."

I almost started crying at Matt's words. Every, single word... I could tell that he meant it.

"Mello and I aren't as close as {Y/N} and I. Like, we're extremely close, but {Y/N} and I just have that special bond. A bond of friendship." Matt continued. "{Y/N} is like my older sister. When Mello left Wammy's House without telling us, she broke down. I'd never seen her in the state she was in. It was hard to see her like that, and it really took a toll not only on her, but me as well. It was hard to keep her from doing anything drastic while searching for Mello on the side. And a week or so later, lo and behold, she ended up finding him. Yes, she had been drugged and kidnapped, but she still found him again. I wanted to kill him. For making her put up with that, for making her suffer, I wanted to kill Mello. But even when she was drugged and slipping out of consciousness, she kept telling me that it was okay. I was still pissed, but I didn't do anything. Mello and I exchanged words, but that was it. And now, I see why she didn't get angry at him. She understood him, and it was in a way that I didn't see back then, but I can see clearly now. And now, I'm the outsider looking in. I'm not really part of the family anymore. I'm not considered a brother anymore."

The last sentence felt like a stab to the heart, so I stole a quick glance at Mello, who also looked like he was about to cry.

"Well, I know that I'm starting to get boring, so I'll finish up. What I wanted to say is congrats to both {Y/N} and Mello, and that I love you both." Matt finally concluded, and we all clapped.

He came to the table and gave me a small peck on the cheek. "Thanks for being there for me, {Y/N}. Even if you don't want me to, I'll always consider you my sister."

I pulled him in for a hug, and Mello joined in. I heard a few "aww"s come from the rest of the guests, but I tuned them out. "Matty," I whispered. "Thanks, alright? I love you. You're my brother, no matter what anyone says."

I felt his eyes shoot open, and he squeezed me tighter. "That's right, Matt. We're a family. You're part of this family, no matter what anyone says." Mello muttered, catching Matt off guard.

That's right... Matt never thought that Mello considered him to be family.

Matt squeezed even tighter, and I could feel him fighting the urge to cry. But I didn't blame him, because if it were me, I'd be just as emotional.

We parted from the hug after a few seconds, and sat back down. A few more speeches were given until finally, someone called me down to speak. I hated talking to a large group of people. I'd hated it my whole life. But it was my wedding, and I knew that Mello secretly wanted me to say something, so I went along with it. "Uh, let's see, where do I begin..." I muttered. "I'm {Y/N}. I'm Mello's wife. And normally, I don't do things like this, so please forgive me if I say something stupid or out of place."

That got a few laughs, and Matt gestured for me to continue. So I did. "I've never been the type of person to admit when something made me weak. However, after I met Mello that one fateful day, I'll admit it, I thought that he was my weakness. When he was hurt, I was hurt. If he cried, I cried. If he wanted to murder someone, I'd wanna murder someone. It was the type of bond we had. But recently, and by recent I mean today, I realized that it wasn't weakness. It was strength. Whenever I was with Mello, I was stronger. And yes, I know it sounds cliché, but it's the truth. The two of us didn't have a great love story like in the movies, but in my mind, it was great enough for me. And Mello, my love, I know that you've lived most of your life thinking that you were alone. But now, you can't. Because as long as there is breath in my lungs and blood running through my body, I will be there to love you. To cherish you. To share your feelings. And I also know that I'm gonna get on your nerves a lot. And I mean a lot. But whenever you're pissed off at me, just remember; I'm nothing without you. And I know that you're nothing without me."

I looked at Mello to see him almost crying. Tears had already streamed down his face, but he kept wiping them away. I went back to the table and took his hand. "Mello, all I really wanna say is I love you. And I will continue to love you as long as I shall live."

Everyone applauded as Mello pulled me in for a kiss. It was a kiss I'd always remember, because in that moment, I realized that Mello knew that I was right. He was my strength. And I hoped that I was his, too. I'd always stood on the sidelines of his work, only helping when asked, but really, maybe just my being there was help enough for him.

"Thank you..." He whispered, and I smirked.

"Well, I said something, so now you have to say something." I coaxed, which caused Mello to click his tongue in annoyance, take the microphone, and stand up.

He moved from behind the table to let me pass by, and then went to where I was standing to talk. "Hey, everyone. You all know me. Mello. The groom from the wedding."

I snickered at his sarcastic remarks. Only my idiotic husband.

"Well, I was touched by my wife's words, so I figured that I'd say something as well." He started. "First, I want to address something she said earlier, which was that I was her strength. And if that's the case, then she's mine as well. No matter what I went through, if {Y/N} was there, then I was fine. With that being said, I remember when we were back at Wammy's House, and I was so frustrated with the fact that I wasn't able to beat Near. To be number one. And to top it off, I was taunted with the fact that I barely had friends. I became depressed and thought about suicide, but one day, {Y/N} bursted into my room and lectured me about how I wasn't eating properly and I was being a shut-in. It opened my eyes and made me realize that I had one thing to live for. Her. And for her sake, I held onto that little bit of hope that I had, and I pulled through the hard times. Sure, I was still upset a lot, but she pulled me out of the depression. She pulled me into the light."

I was as surprised as anyone, to hear him say that. Of course, I remember the time I lectured him. But I had no idea that he was going through all of that.

"But now, I'm happy. I've got a beautiful wife, an amazing baby boy, and an awesome family. Matt. Mina. Lawliet. And of course, {Y/N}. And you know what, I wouldn't change a single thing. I love my family. I love Matt, Mina, Law, and {Y/N}. And I'd give my life for any of theirs, gladly, with a smile on my face. And I know for a fact that they'd do the same for me. And {Y/N}, my angel, in the time we have left, I'm going to protect you. I'm going to make sure to save you this time around."

By this time, I was bawling my ass off. Mello was always good with words. Especially when it came to emotional speeches and things like that. Whether it was a love confession, an argument, or even just a simple chat, he knew exactly what to say. And he knew exactly how to make me cry.

"Okay, so we can get on with the partying, I'm gonna stop here. {Y/N}, my Princess, I love you. I've always loved you. And I will continue to love you as long as I live. And if there's a life after death, I'll probably love you then, too." He concluded, and came up to kiss me on my test-stained face. Well, I kept wiping them away, since I had makeup on, but you know what I mean.

Even Matt looked teary-eyed. He had his arm around Mina and was shaking slightly. Seeing him made me realize something. He knew. He knew about all of that, but didn't tell me. Dammit, Matty!!

Mello sat down beside me and placed his hand gently on my leg, which made me feel a bit more calmed. "Why didn't you tell me about all of that?" I managed, and he smiled.

"I never needed to. You always knew when something was wrong with me. That's why you're my strength."

"I knew, but not to that extent!!" I whisper-yelled.

"It's fine. That was so long ago. It was years ago, in fact. I'm fine now. I love you." He muttered, nuzzling his head to my shoulder, which made me chuckle under my breath. Only Mello...

"Okay, now that the painful part's over, let's have the newlyweds have their first dance." Matt muttered into the microphone, and Mello led me to the middle of the hall, which was specifically for dancing.

"This I Promise You" by NSYNC played, and I blushed. The lyrics to the songs fit Mello and I so well. I knew the song back and front. It was one of my favourites. No way...

When the visions around you
Bring tears to your eyes
And all that surrounds you
Are secrets and lies...

I blushed as Mello began leading me into a nice and easy dance. I was able to follow him without tripping on my own feet.

I'll be your strength
Ill give you hope
Keeping your faith that is gone
The one you should call
Was standing here all along

And I will take you in my arms
And hold you right where you belong
Till the day my life is through,
This I promise you
This I promise you

At this point I was crying again, and Mello chuckled as I tried to stifle the sniffs and wails. He brought his hand to my face and wiped the tears away gently. "Don't cry..." He whispered, which only made me cry harder.

I've loved you forever
In lifetimes before
And I promise you'll never
Will you hurt anymore
I give you my word
I give you my heart (give you my heart)
This is a battle we've won
And with this vow,
Forever has now begun...

Just close your eyes
Each loving day
I know this feeling won't go away (no...)
Every word I say is true
This I promise you
This I promise you

To calm myself down, I was singing along to NSYNC, but failing horribly as I kept sniffing and breathing sharply. However, Mello was singing softly, too, and it sounded amazing. I knew that he knew the song, but damn.

Over and over I fall (over and over I fall...)
When I hear you call
Without you, in my life, baby
I just wouldn't be livin' at all

And I will take (I will take...)
You in my arms (you in my arms...)
And hold you right where you belong (right where you belong...)
Till the day my life is through
This I promise you, baby

Just close your eyes
Each loving day (each loving day)
I know this feeling won't go away (no..)
Every word I say is true
This I promise you

Every word I say is true
This I promise you
Ooh, I promise you.

As the song finally ended, I looked up at a grinning Mello, who seemed to actually enjoy the dance. "That was fun, don't ya think?" He said, and I giggled.

"Yeah, and it was to my song, too!" I added, "Well, one of my songs."

He snickered at the last part, before heading back towards the table.

~TIME SKIP~

"Okay, now it's time for the bride to dance with her family! And the groom to dance with his!" The DJ announced, and the room went quiet.

He probably doesn't know...

I was about to tell him 'screw it' but then was interrupted by a special redhead outstretching his hand to me. "May I have this dance, {Y/N}?"

I smiled and placed my hand in his. "Yes, Matt, of course."

Mina decided to dance with Mello, so now we both had someone to dance with. Matt led me to the dance floor as the DJ began playing another song I loved. "Unconditionally" by Katy Perry. It didn't really fit the mood, but no one cared.

Matt held me close as we twirled around the dance floor. "You know, I meant every single word I said earlier. Including the fact that I feel that you're my sister." He whispered, and I smiled and cupped his face with my hands.

"And you're my brother. My best friend. The first person I call when something good happens to me. Even before Mello, who's now my husband. Naturally, I call you first. Because I love you."

Matt stayed silent for a moment before sheepishly saying, "I love you too."

We danced the rest of the song and then went off of the dance floor. Most of the night after that pretty much consisted of drinking, and partying. We cut the wedding cake, drank a whole lot of alcohol, danced until we couldn't dance anymore, and basically just rocked the night away. Until about 3:45 the next morning, since we only had the hall until 4:00 am that day. As we began to leave, Mello led me to a limo parked across the street.

"Did you think that we'd just go home after all of that? We've only just gotten started." He said seductively, and I blushed as he pulled me into the limo. "We've got our honeymoon to enjoy, now!"
