Stigma
~{Y/N}'s POV~
"...did your daughter just kiss my son...?" I turned to Matt, cocking an eyebrow in disbelief.
Matt laughed in a mix of anxiety and pride, causing Mello to grab a hold of my hand. "D-don't worry, {Y/N}, they're kids..." Matt said, and I shrugged.
"I'm not mad," I denied, even though I knew I was a little pissed off. Mello squeezed my hand tighter, trying to calm me down, and it made me realize that I didn't even know why I was pissed off.
"Please calm down," Mello begged, whispering so Matt couldn't hear.
"Calm down?! She just kissed my son! She's known him for like, two days!"
"I-it's just a kiss, {Y/N}..." Matt shyly mumbled, and I looked at him with fire and fury.
"You stay out of this, Mail Jeevas, or so help me God..."
Matt looked at me with a fear in his eyes that I hadn't seen since we were kids. Yes, the boys had always been afraid of me, but as we got older, the fear went from Oh-God-She's-Gonna-Kill-Me to Jesus-Christ-She-Will-Torture-Me-Slowly.
I sighed, taking my free hand to run through my hair. "I'm goin' for a walk..." I muttered, letting go of Mello's hand. He turned to watch me leave, but didn't follow me.
~Mello's POV~
As {Y/N} walked away, I turned back to Matt, who looked somehow apologetic. "Don't worry, you know how she is," I said, reading his expression.
"It's different from when we were kids, Mel, this is her baby we're talking about." He argued, and I sighed.
"Lawliet's gotta grow up. He's gonna fall in love, have sex, drink, maybe even kill a man along the way. {Y/N}'s still got the baby-mama complex in her mind, so she's not happy that it's this soon, but she's gonna eventually realize that it's inevitable."
"...she's gonna kill me, isn't she?" he asked, and I cracked a smile.
"Probably."
"Why aren't you mad?"
"Because I know you're already feeling dejected about Myra, and what father feels angry when their son gets to score with a girl?" I chuckled.
Matt laughed and lightly punched my shoulder. "Shut up, man,"
"Seriously, though, is it bugging you?"
"Is what bugging me?" Matt questioned.
"Myra," I answered, "Y'know, not having a relationship with her. I know you never really wanted kids, but..."
"It bugs me," He said almost immediately. "God, it almost hurts, but... I wouldn't take my choice back for the world."
I saw the fatherly glint in Matt's eyes and smiled, placing an arm around his shoulders. "Listen, Matty, you know... she's still your girl."
"Mells, I never got to be a Dad," he muttered. "She probably hates me."
I glanced at Matt, and I knew exactly what he was feeling because I had felt it, too. With us being in MU and Lawliet being down on Earth, I was always questioning whether he hated me or not. After all, we did leave him to pull off a dangerous mission halfway across the world, so it was more surprising that he didn't hate us.
"She doesn't hate you, Mail," I assured.
"How do you know?" he challenged.
I softened when I saw tears slip down Matt's face. He cared about Myra, that much was evident, but he just wanted to show her that fatherly love. The act he'd put on about not caring was complete bullshit, it was obvious. Maybe part of it was because we'd grown up without parents, or maybe it wasn't that at all, but one thing was clear: He loved Myra more than anything else.
"Think about it," I said. "Its part of both your and Mina's personality to care about everyone connected to them, no matter how horrible. You're her father, Jeevas. And you would've been with her if it weren't for-..."
-...me.
"I don't blame you for it. I never have, and I never will. We did what we had to. And it ended up getting us the win in the long-run." He said, reading my thoughts exactly. He sat down on the floor and placed his arms at his sides.
"I'm not the point here," I dismissed, "The point is that I know that she doesn't hate you. I just know. Just like how you knew that Lawliet didn't hate me or {Y/N}."
Matt looked up at me with his glazed eyes and I felt warmth come as his lips curved into a smile. "I did feel it with Law, huh?"
I chuckled and ruffled Matt's hair, causing him to laugh. "You did, and that's why I know that Myra's fine. She doesn't hate you."
He nodded and I sat down beside him, elbowing him in the ribs and then leaning back, waiting for {Y/N} to come back.
~{Y/N}'s POV~
"What's the matter now?" Near asked, seeing me storm away from Mello and Matt.
"Nothing," I huffed, slowly down as Near ran to catch up with me.
"What, did Mello say something stupid?"
"No," I sighed, "Lawliet and Myra just kissed, and Mello and Marty are acting like it's this great milestone for him."
Near stopped walking and looked at me for a moment before laughing. "Really, {Y/N}? Storming off all pissed off because your son had his first legit kiss?"
I rolled my eyes and then placed my hands on my hips. "Its not the kiss thing that's bothering me, Nate, it's the fact that they only met two days ago. They're kids, on top of it. It's not appropriate."
"Oh, get over yourself," Near replied. "You had no problem with Gevanni and I!"
"You were eighteen, and you'd known him for ample time! Lawliet is only a teenage boy. He's still small."
"He's not a baby anymore, {Y/N}." Near said, his voice cool and straightforward.
I remained quiet, unable to admit that I knew he was right. I was holding onto the little time I had him, holding onto the baby stage. I could feel the guilt in me, and I looked at Near with displeasure. "You used to always take my side of an argument, y'know."
He chuckled, playfully nudging me. "Well, you were normally right. Besides, what were you doing at his age?"
Flashbacks of my first kiss with Mello played throughout my head and I blushed, the memory still very real and dear to me. "Okay, fine, you're right," I admitted, "But still. Mello and Matt could've been-!"
"Mello and Matt are men, {Y/N}," he interrupted, "And they get how important a first kiss is to males. It's just a matter of perspective."
I groaned. "You're gonna make me apologize, aren't you?"
Near chuckled and nodded. "I'm gonna make you apologize.
~Lawliet's POV~
"Good morning, sleepy," Myra sang, opening the door. I was sitting on my bed, the realization of my first kiss having happened hitting me like a bus.
"H-hey," I managed, my heart pounding. "Um, did you have breakfast yet?"
Myra, with her fiery hair dripping wet from what I was assuming was a morning shower, shook her head. "I don't know where the dining hall is yet."
I looked in the mirror before nodding. I was dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, but considering that she's new, I'm sure all eyes are gonna be on Myra and not me. I stood up and motioned for Myra to follow me. When we got to the hall, we got our food before sitting down at a table in the corner of the cafeteria. It didn't take long before people slowly began to crowd around us.
"Umm... are you new?"
"Lawliet! Who's the girl?"
"Ooh, she's pretty!"
"Red hair, huh..."
"Maybe she's emo?"
I could see how uncomfortable Myra was, so I stood up. "Everyone!! Jesus, give the poor girl some space, yeah?"
The other kids looked surprised at me as they all took steps back. But murmurs died down when the door to the hall, which was closed, slammed open. One of the other letters, V, ran into the hall, breathing heavily and sweat dripping from his forehead.
"EVERYONE!!" He yelled in accented English. "I JUST HEARD ABOUT IT. ROGER IS DEAD!"
...what??
