First Love

~Lawliet's POV~

"Open up the door, Gevanni!!" I yelled, slamming my fist into the door to the room that I knew Gevanni was in. "Open up the fucking door or I swear to god-!"

The door suddenly opened and I fell in. Myra, who was behind me timidly, followed me in. "What the fuck are you doing??" Gevanni whisper-yelled, his face red.

"V just ran into the dining hall. What's this about Roger being dead??" I questioned, and Gevanni's eyes went wide.

"How did you...?" He began, but cut himself off. Immediately, I could tell. Gevanni had killed Roger.

"Are you fucking kidding me?? Gevanni, you didn't... you couldn't have done it, right?"

Silence.

I looked at Gevanni and could tell that he wasn't answering because he didn't want to, and he couldn't, lie to me. "You did it." I said, "You were the one that... why? Why, Gevanni? After everything that's happened... oh, my god. Did you kill Near, too?"

"N-no!!"

Surprising even myself, I grabbed his collar and grit my teeth. "Then you better tell me what the fuck is going on."

Gevanni pushed my hands aside, clearly disgruntled. "Roger killed Near, alright?" He screamed, and I froze.

"What?"

"...Roger, he..." Gevanni looked at me and then sighed. "He paid Mello's old mafia men to do it."

"Why would he...?"

"I don't know, probably to keep the reputation of the orphanage up. Wouldn't surprise me, but then again... he knew Nate as a kid. How could he have done something like that?!"

I was suddenly very aware of Myra's presence behind me, and I looked back. She was a little shocked, but she took my hand and quietly moved closer to me. "Gevanni," I mumbled, "I can't believe you killed him."

"What was I supposed to do, Lawliet? He's the reason that we're in peril right now. He brought it upon himself. And you... you need to get it through your thick skull. Nate River is dead."

I grit my teeth and squeezed Myra's hand before letting go. I stormed out of the room, angrily walking back to my own room and slamming the door.

~Myra's POV~

It was quiet in Lawliet's room that day. I never wanted this to happen, but now I'm too far down the rabbit hole.

Mom, if only I'd listened to you... this isn't working. How am I supposed to deal with him when he's like this? Ugh, of all times, it had to be right when I got here.

"'Get it through your thick skull', he says. 'Nate River is dead', he says. Does he think that I don't know that?!" Lawliet exclaimed, mostly to himself. I felt sorry for him.

The look in his eyes revealed how upset he truly was. He looked so hurt - so broken, and yet he was clearly holding onto whatever force was willing him to keep from crying.

"Ah," Lawliet said, looking at me. It's like he had just noticed that I was here. "I'm sorry, Myra. I'm just really-."

"Don't apologize," I argued, smiling at him. "Just 'cause you're a guy, you don't need to stop being human. I'd be upset, too."

He nodded and I got up from the bed on the opposite side of the room to sit beside Lawliet. I took hold of his hand, and looked into his eyes, smiling. "Listen, just like our parents, I'm gonna stick with you until the very end. I know we just met... But I know that you and I, we're gonna do great things together."

With that, he seemed to ease up, and I placed my head on my shoulder.

Mom... Maybe things are gonna be alright after all.

~ Mello's POV ~

"So you're not mad at us?" I chuckled, and {Y/N} rolled her eyes, placing her hands on her hips.

"If I had a dollar for every time I was pissed at you two, I'd probably have single-handedly funded a brand new orphanage for our son." She replied, and I grinned up at her.

{Y/N} still hasn't changed, huh?

"You love us, though," Matt said, grabbing a hold of one of her legs and squeezing.

"M-Matt! Let go! You little-!" she shook her leg in an attempt to make him release her, but to no  avail. She sighed. "Fine. I love you guys. Sometimes."

The two of us pouted and stared up at the {H/C} girl, who grit her teeth. "Okay, fine. All the time."

She sat down and Matt began playing with her hair. He'd started getting better at braiding, using {Y/N} and I as practice when he was bored. We both didn't mind, we knew that Matt was always the most energetic of us.

"So..." Matt began, "Mello and I had a little conversation while you were gone."

I saw {Y/N} look at me with a cocked eyebrow, a mix of concern and seriousness plastered across her face. I laughed nervously and looked at Matt with wide eyes in an attempt to keep him quiet. I didn't know whether he was going to tell her about what I said about Lawliet or what I said about Myra, but either say, it was going to lead to her yelling at one of us.

Matt grinned at me and I glared, knowing exactly what he was going to say. "Mells said that you need to cut the baby mama complex."

"Did he, now?" she replied, unimpressed. I didn't dare to meet her eyes, but I could feel her eyes boring holes into me.

"Babe," I tried, before I got yelled at, "I just meant that you're a little much when it comes to Lawliet, and that you need to learn to let go a little."

She smiled, and I immediately knew that I was fucked. "Mihael Keehl," she sweetly and calmly said, "Do I look like a mother from an anime? From a fanfiction?"

Matt snickered from behind her, and I wanted to bitch-slap the shit out of him.

Matty, even after I comforted you... you just can't help yourself, can you?

"I didn't mean to piss you off..." I mumbled, still shooting daggers at Matt.

She rolled her eyes and looked down. Just like Matt, she was feeling dejected, but with {Y/N} it was always different. She didn't want to hear any sympathy, really. It helped sometimes, but it could also just made her feel a little worse.

After sitting in silence for a while, I decided to walk off on my own, until I found a place I could relax by myself. I sighed and ran my hands through my blond hair. I was tired, but there was no point in sleeping. You don't need sleep if you're not alive.

It was only a short time that I was alone, because soon {Y/N} found me and sat down beside me. "Hey," she whispered, getting down on her knees beside me. "What's the matter?"

"Nothing," I replied, and she scoffed.

"I've known you for a long time. We're married. Something's wrong."

"Nothing's wrong, per se," I admitted, "I'm just tired. And a little worried about you."

"Worried about me?" she echoed, placing her head on my shoulder and plopping down on the floor next to me,

"Yeah," I said, "You... it's obvious that the whole situation with Lawliet bothered you. And although I stand by everything that I said, I'm still worried."

She was silent for a moment, and I was scared. Was she going to get pissed off? Storm away?

Instead of either, she placed her hand in mine. "I'm just scared, okay?"

I looked to my right and she forced a smile. "I'm scared," she repeated, "He's just a kid, Mells. He already lost us. Then he was raped. Then he lost Near. He's going through a whirlwind of trauma, and we can't do anything but watch. Doesn't that bother you?"

I squeezed her hand. "Of course it bothers me," I answered, "But I also know that the kid's gotta grow up. We went through some shit, and we made it out."

"He's our kid, Mihael, but he's not us. he's not our carbon copy."

"Granted. But he's still strong. And although it seems like we're helpless, I'm sure that we're doing something good just by watching over him."

She hummed and sighed. "You better be right about this, babe."

I chuckled and planted a kiss on her cheek before placing my head on hers, which had returned to leaning on my shoulder. "I usually am."
